Sea Lions ■ Nighttime sea lion management contract RFP issued to 3 companies and posted on website. Li Contract is being finalized with South Mooring Company. v Municipal Code change approved by Council. Effective May 13, mooring and pier permittees will have 7 days to respond notices from Harbor Resources Postcards will be sent to all mooring and pier permittees warning them about sea lion season. Stickers will be given to boat rental companies, sportfishing companies, charter industry. Attention Mooring Permittees and Pier Sea Lion Ordinance Updatf NBMC 17.25.020 and NBMC 17_ Sea lions generally migrate down the Southern California coast between the months of May and October; are becoming more prevalent in Newport Harbor: tend to haul themselves out of the water for several hours of the day to help control their body temperature; seek large, flat surfaces such as vessels and docks to haul themselves out of the water; and tend to compete for haul out locations by barking day and night causing a nuisance and keeping nearby residents awake_ Effective May 13, 2010, the ordinances relative to sea lion deterrence will change requiring the permittee to take deterrent action within 7 days of notification from the City of Newport Beach at which point the permittee may be subject to fines_ It is the permittee's responsibility to secure vessels, piers, and appurtenances from sea lion intrusion_ Sea lion deterrent information is available on our website_ City of Newport Beach Harbor Resources 949 - 644 -3Q1 829 Harbor Island Drive HarborResources @newportbeachea_gov Newport Beach 9266E vvvirw-newportbeachea.gov/HarbDrResources - BEACON BAY BALBOA ISLAND CHANNEL BAY FRONT N —. \ goy F l., _ _ - _____ --- w - BAY FRONT ALLEY N j 4LLf Yti BAY F IOST At. Everyone agreed. o It was agreed that the previous appraisal and cost of services studies would no longer be considered for any future discussion. There was some question as to the legality of raising fees by the proposed CPI, and to the fairness of backdating to 1996. L It was decided to no longer pursue an immediate CPI increase, but rather to use an agreed up on appraiser who will make recommendations. Li The group agreed to work together to facilitate this study in an expeditious manner (next few months). Other Issues ❑ Parking Operations On May 1, Parking Operations will begin reporting to Administrative Services — Revenue Division instead of Harbor Resources However, Heather Flaherty (Supervisor) will still keep her office in Harbor Resources (because we don't want to see her leave) Next Meeting Wednesday, May 12 6:00 pm Location: To Be Determined For More Information http://www.newportbeachca.gov/HarborResources Chris Miller, Harbor Resources Manager cmiller @newportbeachca.gov (949) 644 -3043 Shannon Levin, Harbor Resources Supervisor shannon@newportbeachca.gov (949) 644 -3041
