COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
DATE: September 22, 1995
TO Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission
FROM: Celeste Jardine -Haug
SUBJECT: Senior Services Division - Monthly Commission Report
September is our get ready, set and go month. Our classes are back in full
swing and many of our activities are back from vacation hold. The parking lot
was filled to the brim which is nice for our staff to see, but not so nice for
participants.
Two fund raisers took place this month. The monthly Pancake Breakfast which
was on hold for the summer and the annual Rummage Sale. Both events are
always well supported by the community. Many volunteers are utilized for these
events. Their hard work and dedication should be admired.
The Tutoring Program has resumed at Ensign Junior High and Harbor View
Elementary. 10 -12 tutors will be assisting students in class and one -on -one.
Four tutors, will also be at CYC Tuesday afternoons to provide after school
homework assistance to children who require it.
The Caregiver Support Group continues to be successful. This monthly night
time meeting assists those children or spouses who are having difficulty in
caring for a frail family member. The group is led by the Human Services,
Coordinator and allows people to vent frustrations and share solutions with
others.
