This association has for many years been disappointed with the landscaping on Bayside Drive and the condition of the slope directly opposite the Mai Kai complex. Many letters to various agencies of the city have produced almost no positive action. • About two years ago this association donated $2500 to the city to expedite slope beautification. As it turned out this money was used to improve the corner of Jamboree and Bayside Drive which has little to do with Mai Kai. On September 11, 2000 the Mai Kai Board of Directors met with Mr.Marcelino Lomeli and Mr. John Conway to discuss removal of Eucalyptus trees from the city right -of -way opposite the association grounds. Enclosed please find a copy of the minutes concerning that meeting. In those minutes you will note the associations concerns. The Mai Kai Community respectfully requests whatever assistance your commission can offer beautifying this unkempt slope. Sincerely, By direction of the Board of Directors MAI KAI COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION Edward D 1 4 " l Community Association Manager • cc: Board of Directors Enclosure 2112 E- FOURTH STREET, STE. 200, BANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA 92705-3816 PHONE: 714 /285 -2828 800/872 -7900 FAX: 714/847 -9393 CERRITOS 582/928 -3972 • CORONA 909/371 -2727 • SAN CLEMENTE 949/248 -2822 r MAI KAI communrY ASSocuTlox • MNUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS SEPTEMBER 11, 2000 A special meeting was held at the home of Betty Keefe, 1239 Bayside Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625. Directors Present Director Absent Elaine Whitney Betty Keefe Jesse Daum Edith Farrell Madelyn Tinkler Also Present Ed Harrel, Association Manager Transpacific Management Service Mazcelino Lomeli Maintenance Superintendent, Park and Tree • John Conway, Urban Forester 0 Mrs. Elaine Whitney called the meeting to order at 10:30 AM. Purpose of the meeting was to discuss removal of Eucalyptus trees on Bayside Drive and beautification of the slope. The city wants to replace the Eucalyptus with 21 Golden Medallions. Board members advised Mr. Lomeli that Mai Kai owners are against removal of Eucalyptus trees until such time as the city proceeds with expected improvements of the slope. Directors requested the city plant trees and shrubs prior to removal of the eucalyptus because the Eucalyptus are the only greenery of the slope. Board members stated that Mai Kai owners are the only persons in the city who have to look at this unkempt slope on a daily basis. Directors stated finther that this association donated $2500 to the city for "slope beautification" as opposed to the "corner beautification" that has no impact on association views. d. 0 0 Owners living at the top of this slope drain their yards through large pipes that come down the hill, residents at Mai Kai believe this is a not only violation of city ordinance, but also that the city plays scant attention to the lack of planting by slope owners or to the accumulation of weeds and trash on the slopes and in the city right -of -way It was noted that two of the Golden Magnolias have died, as did the oleanders, probably due to lack of watering. Mr. Lomeli stated the city did not have funds available to install automatic irrigation (from the comer of Jamboree down Bayside Drive) but he promised to have a contractor water the trees twice a week The two dead trees will be removed this week as will the dead oleanders and weeds. Mr. Conway stated the trees have been fertilized twice since they were planted. Board members asked Mr. Lomeli for information he might have regarding the placement of Edison Company utility lines underground. He stated this project was two years away at best. It was suggested that Mai Kai owners attend a meeting of the Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Commission in the city hall at 7:00 PM on the first Tuesday of the month. Mr. Lomeli and Mr. Conway were thanked for their time and input. ADJOURNMENT There being no fin-Cher business the meeting adjourned at 11:36 AM. Respectfully submitted, Edward L. Harrel Acting Recorder
