Staff continued coordinating the construction of the Bonita Canyon Sports Park with the Public Works Department. 2. Field renovation work in preparation for the upcoming soccer and football seasons was completed Citywide. The renovation includes seeding, dethatching, aerating, fertilizing and top - dressing of several athletic fields. 3. Additional decorative trash receptacles were installed at Bob Henry Park as deemed • necessary to accommodate litter collection at this popular Park. 4. Landscape improvements to accent park signage were completed at Las Arenas, Cliff Drive, Irvine Terrace, Begonia, Bayside and San Joaquin Hills Parks. Palm trees were installed as a landscape backdrop, along with the installation of colorful plants at the base of the signs. This landscape work will continue throughout the City park system to highlight focal areas. Upcomine Activities for September 1. The planting of replacement shrubs and ground cover will continue Citywide. 2. Staff will continue to monitor the Arches Mitigation Site in the Big Canyon area. 3. Staff will continue coordinating the annual control of rodents with contract services. Tree Division Activities •During the month of August, 803 trees were trimmed, 107 trees were planted and 4 emergency calls were responded to regarding trees. The Urban Forester received 48 tree maintenance requests. 1. The City tree- trimming contractor, West Coast Arborists, has completed all tree trimming throughout the Corona del Mar area and has nearly completed trimming . within the Buffalo Hills area. Additionally, the annual tree trimming prior to seasonal storms of palm, coral, and selected trees began August 13. • • 2. The Urban Forester coordinated the Citywide Sidewalk Replacement Program with the Concrete Maintenance Supervisor and the Public Works Inspector. This work involved the Urban Forester inspecting City street trees as related to sidewalk repairs. 3. Staff has been coordinating with the Field Services Division of the General Services Department for the root pruning of public and private property on Clay Street between Irvine Avenue and St. Andrews Road. The project is multi -phased and included a variety of tasks to preserve the City Ficus trees and their canopy. The major aspects of the project are the removal of the Ficus tree roots, installation of root barriers, repair of existing concrete walkways, landscape and irrigation system renovation. All affected property owners have been sent an Indemnity Agreement, to sign and return, to allow staff to encroach upon private property. This project is in its final stage of completion; repair of concrete walkways and landscape renovations is underway. 4. The attached Tree Activity Report summarizes work that has been performed during the past month.
