Bludau, City DATE: October 1, 2002 SUBJECT: Field/ Park Ambassador Program I apologize for not delivering this message in person as I intended to do; however, I am meeting tonight with the Library Trustees to talk about the Library Services Director's recruitment and afterward am attending the monthly • Newport Coast Advisory Committee meeting. I need to preface my remarks by saying that I have not spoken with City Council members about the issue of the Field /Park Ambassador Program, so I do not know how this program may be viewed once it goes before Council. However, I am in support of the program because I believe it provides the needed enforcement mechanism to assure playing fields are utilized according to schedules and it also will protect fields from overuse, which has a negative impact on all users. I do not know whether 50 hours per week over 38 weeks a year is the right amount of time, but once we gain some experience with our program, it can be tailored to fit our ongoing needs. Recreation space is at a premium in Newport Beach. In order to best serve our youth sports groups, I support the Field /Park Ambassador Program as it is being proposed and intend to do so before the City Council.
