RE: HARBOR VIEW COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
Dear Andrea McGuire:
As management agent for the Harbor View Community Association, I have been requested by the
Board of Directors to contact you regarding the installation of a volleyball court in the Buffalo Hills
• Park.

In 1998, prior to the construction and expansion of the Harbor View Community Association Pool,
1854 Port Westbourne, there was a sand volleyball court located adjacent to the pool and clubhouse
in the Buffalo Hills Park. During the expansion of the pool and the installation of the new
playground equipment the volleyball court was removed. Therefore, the Board of Directors would
like to request that the City reinstall the sand volleyball court next to the clubhouse behind the City
restrooms.
Please advise the undersigned regarding your response to the above request as soon as possible.
Your time and effort is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jill Sc walbe

SUBJECT: Field/ Park Ambassador Program
I apologize for not delivering this message in person as I intended to do;
however, I am meeting tonight with the Library Trustees to talk about the
Library Services Director's recruitment and afterward am attending the monthly
• Newport Coast Advisory Committee meeting.
I need to preface my remarks by saying that I have not spoken with City Council
members about the issue of the Field /Park Ambassador Program, so I do not
know how this program may be viewed once it goes before Council. However, I
am in support of the program because I believe it provides the needed
enforcement mechanism to assure playing fields are utilized according to
schedules and it also will protect fields from overuse, which has a negative
impact on all users. I do not know whether 50 hours per week over 38 weeks a
year is the right amount of time, but once we gain some experience with our
program, it can be tailored to fit our ongoing needs.
Recreation space is at a premium in Newport Beach. In order to best serve our
youth sports groups, I support the Field /Park Ambassador Program as it is being
proposed and intend to do so before the City Council.
