Background The amended Street Tree Designation List was adopted in May 2000. The list designates specific species of trees, for future planting in parkways and/or medians of a City street, to promote uniformity of the street treescapes. No specific street tree has been designated for 30'h Street. The City Street Tree Designation List is maintained and reviewed on an annual basis by City staff. Any changes, recommendations, or resident requests for changes are forwarded to the Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Commission per City Council Policy G -6 (Maintenance and Planting of Parkway Trees). The current list is attached, which does not list a parkway street tree for the 400 to 500 block of 30"' Street. The MJS Design Group, consultants for the Cannery Loft Project, submitted a construction plan with the designated street tree as their overall plan to beautify the street. Discussion The east and west sides of 30"' Street are currently void of any street trees. The MJS Design Group has provided a construction plan and exhibited a willingness to commit funds towards the installation and maintenance of the street trees per City planting specifications for this project. The property owners will assume the landscape and irrigation maintenance after the project is complete. The City will prune the street trees. •The Property Owner(s), MJS Design Group, and the Central Newport Beach Community Association have received a copy of this report and a notice of the Commission meeting. Public cooperation in helping to develop and maintain healthy and attractive trees is encouraged. MAINTENANCE OF PARKWAY TREES The General Services Department will trim the parkway trees on a rotation schedule. An effort will be made to trim the parkway trees on less than a three -year cycle. If the rotation trimming is completed in less than three years, more frequent trimming will be done performed on certain trees and in view areas. Public safety such as low branches and heavy foliage will be given priority over view trimming. An effort will be made to trim parkway trees located in heavy summer traffic areas during the fall and winter months. The trimming schedule will be altered to avoid trimming streets with flowering street trees during their blooming time. This will apply to streets having a large number of flowering trees, not to one or two trees on a street. • TREE LIST The Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission has adopted an official tree list which will be used by the General Services Department to determine species for planning purposes in all new subdivisions and replacement in established parkways.
