Youth Sports Commission
The Youth Sports Commission met on December 4 to allocate field usage for the spring 2004 season
and discuss issues related to field use in Newport Beach. The member organizations (AYSO 57 Et 97,
JAAF, NBLL, NHBA, Pony, PCGFP) are still experiencing growth in their leagues which continues to
compound issue of too little field space for the existing demand.

SENIOR SERVICES
To: Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission
From: Celeste Jardine -Haug, Senior Services Manager
Re: Senior Services Monthly Activities Report
EVENTS AT THE OASIS SENIOR CENTER
• The holiday kick off event was a Wine Tasting party on December 10 and included wine, hors d'oeuvres
and music.
• The Pancake Breakfast was especially fun this month as Santa made a visit. This event is held
the second Saturday of every month beginning at 7:30am, $3 for adults and $1 for children.
Everyone is welcome at this monthly event.
• Human Services Coordinator Vicki Chin planned many charitable giving activities that Center
members were able to participate in, such as:
• A toy drive to benefit the many children affected by the fires and have been delivered
to St. Vincent de Paul in San Diego.
• Canned goods were collected and distributed to SOS for the Adopt -A- Family program.
• Lap Robes were knitted to give to residents at local nursing homes and to homebound
seniors.
• Knitted hats were collected and given to SPIN (Serving People in Need) who distributed
them to the homeless in this area.
• A special gift was delivered to the Centers own homebound members who were alone for
the holidays
• The Girl Scout Troop came and joined our lunch group and sang carols for them on December 22
and with the Ukulele group that afternoon.
TRANSPORTATION
The transportation system is back up and running with a full fleet of four vehicles as one of the
drivers has been out on disability for three months, which has created a very busy schedule for the
remaining drivers. Office staff members have been filling in when needed to get seniors to their
appointments. We have been fortunate to have a flexible staff that is willing to do whatever is
needed to make our service work.
