Informational report only. Background The General Services Department staff has begun the preparation of the FY 04 -05 • Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). CIP projects are due by mid -January to the Public Works Department. The project list is very limited due to anticipated budgetary constraints. Discussion The following list of Capital Improvement Projects is being submitted for your review and comments. The projects are listed in order of priority as applicable by the Public Works Department guidelines. Major projects requiring extensive funding have been segmented into several phases. A CIP request to begin design and public outreach for the Sunset Ridge Park is being prepared separately by the Public Works Department. Very respectfully, c�SJ� David E. Park Facility Improvement Fund $175,000 Projects for the improvement of parks and associated facilities generated by the, public, Commissioners, staff, and the City Council. These projects do not include any capital improvement to athletic fields, which is a separate fund. 2. Street Tree Reforestation $ 60,000 Removal and replacement of problem trees Citywide in conjunction with the Sidewalk Replacement Program. 3. City Wide Street Tree Root Pruning, (Phase I) $ 50,000 • Removal of problem tree roots Citywide that present current liabilities to the City. The project will also include installing root barriers. 4. Central Irrigation Computer System (Phase V) $ 45,000 Conversion of existing irrigation controllers Citywide to link with central computer to increase the efficiency of the irrigation distribution system throughout City parks systems. The eventual goal is to convert entire system over the next 10 years. Substantial water cost savings are anticipated. 5. Cliff Drive Park Stairway and Handrail $100,000 Replacement (Phase I) Project would include the first phase replacement of existing stairways that have become unsafe due to both wear and wood rot. The project would also require replacing the existing handrails per City Municipal Code. 0
