SUBJECT: Parks and Trees Maintenance Divisions Activities Report
August and September Parks Maintenance Division Activities
1. Synthetic artificial turf grass was installed at the entrance to the new Building Department office
trailer at City Hall, as a small test site to evaluate future potential uses in the City.
2. Four Commission - approved donation benches were installed on the Newport Pier.
• 3. Parks Maintenance Division staff coordinated with the Recreation and Senior Services
Department relative to a Concert in the Park Event at Bob Henry and Peninsula Parks, two
nights of Shakespeare in the Park at Grant Howald Park, and the Sunday Fun Day Event held at
the Bonita Canyon Sports Park.
4. The four infields at the Bonita Canyon Sports Park were renovated in preparation for the
upcoming season. The improvements were funded by two Little League groups which use the
fields. The work consisted of fertilizing, overseeding and top - dressing, and was coordinated by
staff and the City parks maintenance contractor, TruGreen.
5. The planters at Newport Island Park were relandscaped with colorful plantings

1. The planting of replacement shrubs and ground covers will continue Citywide.
2. Parks Maintenance Division staff will continue coordinating the control of rodents
with contract services.
Tree Division Activities
During the month of September, 945 trees were trimmed, no trees were removed as either claim
related or problem tree categories per the G -1 Policy, 18 trees were planted, and 13 emergency tree
calls were responded to. The Urban Forester received 168 tree maintenance requests.
In the month of August, 1320 trees were trimmed, 37 trees were removed as either claim related or
problem tree categories per the G -1 Policy, 8 trees were planted, and 11 emergency tree calls were
• responded to. The Urban Forester received 176 tree maintenance requests.
1. The City's tree trimming contractor, West Coast Arborists, is currently trimming trees
within the Corona Del Mar area.
2. The Urban Forester coordinated the Citywide Sidewalk Replacement Program with the
Concrete Maintenance Supervisor and a Public Works Department Inspector. This work
involved the Urban Forester inspecting City street trees as related to sidewalk repairs.
3. The attached Tree Activity Report summarizes requests and field activities performed
during the past month.
