Pictured is a mural that features a tree, grass, flowers, various critters and the sun! Item 3 October 5, 2010 NCCC Tables & Chairs Although Newport Coast Community Center was closed from August 30 thru September 12 for electrical work and painting, staff was hard at work accomplishing tasks difficult to complete when classes are in session. Staff power washed over 50 classroom tables and 300 chairs in preparation for the new fall season of classes that began in September. Other tasks included a thorough cleaning of the gymnasium bleachers, door threshold repairs, and cleaning and disinfecting gymnastics mats. CYC INTERIOR DOOR HARDWARE COMPLETED Over the past year, the Community Youth Center (CYC) was transformed from a quiet, hidden building, to a beautiful and bustling community center. The building has undergone a complete renovation from the inside out, creating new office space, classroom, and reception area. New door hardware was installed throughout the building replacing the pre - existing, twenty year old hardware. Thus creating a safer, more secure facility. BUCK GULLY PROGRAM The Recreation & Senior Services Department partnered with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy to create Open Space Programs, which allow residents to gain access to one of Newport's best kept secrets. Buck Gully is a natural, coastal canyon that occurs within the City of Newport Beach. The canyon is teeming with plants and wildlife. Exploring Buck Gully is yet another tribute to the diverse beauty of Newport Beach. Join us on an exploration hike through Buck Gully on one of the dates listed below. An elderly man had collapsed and was unconscious just a few rooms down the hall. Elliot responded quickly, evaluated the situation, and performed CPR until EMS arrived on the scene about 10 minutes later and airlifted the victim to a hospital. Elliot was later informed that the man suffered a stroke and was probably alive because of his swift response and training in first aid. As a result of Elliot's heroic deed, the hotel provided free hotel rooms for the length of his family's stay.
