Joint Commission Meeting with City of Costa Mesa
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Parks, Beaches and Recreation. (PB &R) Commission
reschedule their next meeting for Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 7:00 pm to the City
of Costa Mesa Council Chambers located at 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626.
Discussion
The landscaped medians that traverse the center of Irvine Avenue, between 17th
Street/Westeliff Drive and Dover Drive, are unique in that the property line between the
cities of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa is located in the middle of the medians. As
such, both cities share a common interest in the landscape design as Irvine Avenue is a
very important thoroughfare for both cities.
Since the removal of the Eucalyptus trees in September, staff from both cities has been
discussing the re- landscaping of these medians. We will work over the next several
weeks with a contract landscape architect to develop a draft plan for the new design of
these medians. Our plan is to bring this design to the December 7, 2011 meeting for
review and comment.
Holding a joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission of Costa Mesa will
allow for mutual dialogue and a coordinated effort as we move forward.
