I a ; CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT
.,.,.,,..,,.! Agenda Item No. 16
APPROVED November 12, 2003
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: City Attorney's Office; Robert Burnham, City Attorney; 644 -3131 -

SUBJECT: Approval of a Resolution Initiating Amendments to the Zoning Ordinance
Pertaining to Recovery Facilities and Non Conforming Density or Intensity.
ISSUE
Should the Council approve a resolution initiating amendments to the Newport Beach Zoning
Code regarding (1) recovery facilities; and (2) the retention of non - conforming density or
intensity in projects involving the redevelopment of multi - parcel commercial properties?
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the Resolution attached as Exhibit A.
DISCUSSION
The City Council has recently received testimony concerning the trash, delivery truck, parking
and noise problems generated by recovery facilities located in residential areas. Council
Member Ridgeway has requested a review of our current zoning ordinances pertaining to these
uses. Staff agrees that a review of our regulations and recent statutory and decisional law is
appropriate. The proposed resolution that is attached as Exhibit A would, if adopted, initiate the
process of reviewing our recovery facility regulations and proposing amendments that may be
appropriate to minimize impacts and ensure that we are in compliance with the law.
The resolution also proposes to initiate amendments to the Zoning Code that would allow the
retention of non - conforming density and intensity in multi - parcel redevelopment projects. The
Zoning Code currently deprives a property owner of any non- conforming density or intensity if
the structure or structures are demolished. However, in the case of multi - parcel redevelopment
projects, a landowner may, for economic reasons, choose to retain structures that interfere with
good site planning in order to retain as much entitlement as possible. Staff believes that the
Planning Commission and /or City Council should have the authority to authorize retention of
non - conforming density or intensity within the boundaries of multi- parcel commercial
redevelopments when the floor area /units are authorized in the Land Use Element.
None required.

Licensing of Alcoholism
ApdI100/
or Drug Abuse Recovery or Treatment Facilities:
The Most Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process for licensing a facility?
Prospective residential facilities that plan to
provide nonmedical alcoholism or drug
abuse recovery, treatment, or detoxification
services to adults need to contact the
Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs
(ADP), Licensing and Certification Branch,
at (916) 322 -2911 to request a license
application. Prior to initial licensure, the
applicant must complete a written
application, submit an approved fire
clearance from the local fire authority, pay
an applicable license fee (nonprofit
organizations and local governmental
entities are exempt from the license fee), and
pass a facility on -site inspection conducted
by ADP to determine compliance with all
applicable laws and regulations. When it has
been determined that the applicant is in
compliance with all requirements, ADP will
issue a license valid for two years.
What constihrtes a "program " for
purposes of determining the need for a
license?
Title 9, California Code of Regulations
(CCR), Section 10501 (a)(5)', defines a
program as providing one or more of the
Mowing services within a residential
setting:
➢ detoxification
➢ individual sessions
➢ educational sessions
➢ treatment or recovery planning
➢ group sessions
:..,,.
What program areas are addressed by
licensure?
The licensing application process includes a
thorough review of the facility's program in
the following areas: fire clearance, water
supply clearance, plan of operation, total
occupancy and treatment capacity
determination, reporting requirements,
personnel requirements, personnel records,
admission agreements, health screening,
resident records, personal rights, telephones,
transportation, health- related services, food
service, activities, building and grounds,
outdoor and indoor activity space, storage
space, and fixtures, furniture, equipment,
and
What facilities do not require licensure by
ADP?
The following facilities are not required to
be licensed by ADP:
Facilities which provide a cooperative living
arrangement (sometimes referred to as a
sober living environment or alcohol and
drug free housing) for persons recovering
from alcohol and/or other drug problems
which do not provide any of the services
specified above. It is important to note while
sober living environments or alcohol or drug
free housing are not required to be licensed
by ADP, they may require business permits
or clearances from the local city or county in
which the houses are located.

What role do local governments play in the
licensing process?
ADP is the sole licensing authority for
residential nonmedical alcoholism or drug
abuse recovery or treatment facilities. Local"

lttaaseL Facilities providing services to six'
or fewer people are exempt from certain
local land use, zoning ordinances (not
exempt from ADP licensure) and other
restrictions, under HSC Section 11834.23'.
Under HSC Section 1183423,.#l)er
facility (six or fewer residents) can
be treated no differently than would a family
ZEE-W- ying a single - family home.
Local fire safety inspectors (or a
representative from the State Fire Marshal's
Office) conduct site visits in every facility
applying for licensure to determine
compliance with fire safety regulations.
Although ADP may issue a license without
regard to a conditional use permit, no license
can be issued without an appropriate fire
safety clearance. Facilities utilizing central
food service may also be subject to special
permits issued through the local health
department
What laws govern the licensing and
location of these facilities?
HSC Section 11834.01 governs the licensing
of the facilities. Locations are governed by
local zoning and business ordinances. The
Federal Fair Housing Act of 1988 provides
protection from discrimination for facilities
serving persons recovering from problems
related to the use of alcohol or other drugs.
The Uniform Building Code identifies the
fire clearance requirements_
Who do these facilities serve?
Residential facilities licensed by ADP serve
adults (IS and older) addicted to alcohol or
other drugs who wish to recover. Adult
facilities may serve a very limited number of
adolescents (14 and older) on a waiver basis.
Dependent children may also reside in some
facilities with their parents-
What types of services do these programs
provide?
Facilities licensed by ADP provide
education/group/individual sessions,
recovery or treatment planning, and
detoxification services. Additionally, the
facility may also provide peer support,
social and recreational activities, and
information about and referral to appropriate
community services.
How are these services paid for?
Payments for services are arranged by
agreement between the resident and the
facility. Some facilities receive federal and
state fiords, through contracts with counties.
County contracted facilities usually can
offer lower rates, but residents are expected
to pay based on their financial ability, except
that these facilities cannot refuse services to
an individual based solely upon the
individual's inability to pay. Although costs
may vary, any recoveryor treatment service

agreement at time of admission.
How does the State investigate situations
involving unlicensed facilities?
If ADP receives a complaint in which a
facility is alleged to be in violation of
operating without a license, ADP staff shall
initiate an investigation within ten working
days of receipt of the complaint. If ADP
finds that services are being provided
unlawfully, ADP will notify the operator to
cease operation. ADP does have the
authority to assess fines for noncompliance
if unlicensed facilities fail to comply, and
may ask for court assistance to order closure
of a facility.

Regarding tonight's discussion of recovery houses, I would like to add the following.
There are approximately 10 duplexes in the Seashore area operated by the Sober living by the Sea company. With
approximately 12 residents per duplex being charged $3,500 per month, that equates to a potential income of $5,000,000
per year, and the city probably doesn't receive one dime of revenue and the company certainly doesn't put it into home
improvements. They operate shuttle vans without commercial plates. They advertise on their website that they offer
alternative sentencing. So does that mean that our neighborhood is being overrun by transient criminals?
I have filed numerous complaints with them and with the police department regarding the inordinate amount of cigarette
butts they leave on the beach, and nothing has been done about it.
You are also discussing water quality and Seashore Drive tonight, just watch these people on their bike rides to
"meetings" and you will discover a large source of litter.
The bottom line is, we want to improve West Newport, and these groups don't help. They over populate our neighborhood
for their own profit.

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is David Johnson. I am the owner of 1811 W. Balboa Blvd and have been a
close neighbor to Narconon in Newport Beach. I have been a resident in that
neighborhood for over 15 yews_
I am writing this letter today to describe my =periene0, with both the residents and Aefi
at Narconon. I can honestly say that I have not bad any problems with the residents, staff
or the activities of Narconon. in fact 1 have found them to be very good neighbors.
I have observed the staff and residents to be very courteous, and always willing to help
whenever the rived arose.
As tenants over the last 2 years, Narconon has maintained my property, and done any
work i have asked them to. If i had any apprehensions about Narconon, I would not have
allowed them to lease my property.
The work that the Namonon Program does is incredible. They have been an asset to the
community and outstanding neighbors.

more. My wife and I have watched him fail at running his own business that we had paid
for and watched him fail out of school. We had tried every thing that we could help our
son get his life back and be responsible.
In August of 1999 my son Ed was arrested for drugs and was in jail. This was our
opportunity to get Ed to agree to get professional help for his drug addiction. My wife
had been researching drug programs on the internet and she had left messages with many
different places. The one that called back and was willing to help was Narconon. They
• spoke to my wife and gave us the advise and help that we were looking for to help our
son.
The Narconon Program worked for our son Ed. We noticed a major change in his
attitude and his behavior within the first month. We were starting to see our son the way
that we knew him to be. Narconon helped our family in many ways. It was a program that
helped get our son back and that brought our family closer then it has ever been. We are
very pleased with Narconon and the success that they have had with helping families get
back the ones they love.
Thank You
Edward Smith

Mayor and City Council Members

Newport Beach, California 92663
Dear Mayor Ridgeway and Council Members:
On behest of the Narconon Organization of Southern California we are pleased to take
the opportunity to be recognized as an ardent supporter. The Narconon program provided
our daughter with the opportunity for a new life and recovery from a serious drug
addiction. We have been very familiar with the Newport Beach Narconon location and
program since March 20, 2001. As retired federal law enforcement agents within the
Department of Justice both of us are pleased to dispel rumors of rampant inappropriate,
unruly and unsupervised activities of the Narconon students at Newport Beach. We have
• visited the facility at least eight times and stayed in the area from 2 to 5 days each time
over the last 2 years. As outsiders we were exceedingly interested in the environment in
which our daughter was recovering and after her graduation how the facility was faring.
We can attest to the truth and accuracy of several areas of ethical behavior and
consequences within the program at the Newport Beach facility.
1. The Narconon staff provides very close monitoring of all activities of its students
and enforces consequences (punishment) for violations of local rules and lapses in
ethical behavior. Acceptable deportment, courtesy, respect and honesty are all
taught and required of its students.
2. A specific portion of the Narconon program teaches, as well as requires, socially
acceptable behavior with society in general and local residents in particular.
I While it is true that most Narconon students and staff smoke, it is also true that
there are rules, regulations and facility policies for how, where and when to
smoke. We are aware of several specific corrective student consequences taken in
the past for failure to abide by the local rules at the facility.
Should it become necessary, we are ready to come to California to testify to our
• knowledge of the benefits and perceptions of the Narconon program and facilities at
Newport Beach. While we do not live in Southern California, as outsiders and law
enforcement retirees, we believe we can add credibility to the statement that Narconon
provides an effective drug rehabilitation program and makes, through ethical training,
better individuals and citizens within any community.
Sincerely,
Mr. and Mrs. James R Olech

To Whom It May Concern,
I wish to offer my testimony of the Narconon organization and the
marvelous work these dedicated people do. Having been asked to give an
understanding of my background, I offer the following:
My mother was the granddaughter of Dr. Willard Richards, an apostle in
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints who loved the prophet
Joseph Smith and was with him at Carthage when he was murdered by a
mob. As a child I sat at the feet of my grandfather many times to hear
stories his father told him about his good friend, Joseph Smith. With
an unbending testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I served a full
time mission and was 2nd counselor to the mission president.
After being sealed to a choice companion in the temple, we have enjoyed
bringing 6 lovely children into the world; I have been called to 4 high
councils in the LDS Church, 3 stake presidencies, served twice as a
bishop and once as a stake president. As chairman of the Denver Temple
District, with a membership of 84,000 people, I was responsible for the
site selection, zoning, preparation, and daily observed the
construction of the Denver Temple. I was released as stake president to
serve in the first Denver Temple presidency.
Five of our children lived very straight moral LDS lives - -- which has
included temple marriages for each and full time missions for 3 boys
• and 1 girl. We now adore 18 happy grandchildren who are all active in
the church.
One of our children, our youngest son, got involved with liquor,
nicotine, and drugs early in junior high school. For ten years we
struggled with this terrible experience. Satan had total control. We
were on our knees continually and attended the temple weekly, placing
his name on the temple rolls. By the time he had reached college age,
we had to ask him to leave our house and make his own way. We would
love him always but could not contribute financially to his downfall
nor allow him to destroy the spirit in our home.
When he finally discovered that he could not support his habits by
working 9 jobs and trying to get an education, and after a short stay
in jail, he woke us up in the middle of the night and asked for a
blessing. He said that he wanted to go on a mission (being the only one
in 5 generations not to do so weighed heavily) but that he needed and
finally wanted our help.
We had a friend, Dr. Ed Fila, who has studied drug addiction and
rehabilitation for many years. We followed his advice and took our son
to Narconon in Newport Beach. After 3 months at Narconon he was free
from all addiction but the nicotine habit.
He was so committed to his Narconon experience that he accepted
employment with them. With the loving help of a family friend, who was
a bishop in the area, he was able to overcome all of his problems
including the nicotine. After two years of hard work, he received the
mission call that had become all important to him. This past March he
was honorably
released from that mission.
• Our son is returned to us -- he is his old, loving self and now goes to
the University of Utah full time. What a thrill it was for our family
to have all six children seated with their mother and me in the temple
prior to his mission and again upon his return.
We cannot say enough good about Narconon. They saved our son's life.
We now receive calls on a regular basis from people who are looking for
answers. The staff at Narconon are dedicated only to saving the lives
of those in trouble. We are so convinced that the Narconon experience
is the answer to eliminating substance abuse through their unique sweat
program where weeks on end are spent in a sauna. This is the key.
Without this portion of the program, drug addicts never rid themselves
of the drugs stored in the fatty tissues of the body. We think this is
vital.
I believe that the program is divinely inspired and would strongly
recommend it to anyone.
We have been so grateful for what these dedicated folks have done for
our son and others. We have stayed close to Larry and his staff and
have regularly visited this facility during the summer for the past 5
years. We have repeatedly recommended Narconon to others. I seriously
question the motive of anyone complaining about this facility.
Certainly, such negative accusations have come from someone who has
• never been inside or met the people involved, as we have for all these
years. Narconon is a credit to the city of Newport Beach. We feel that
we are now a part of the lives of these fine people, and they do not in
any way deserve criticism from someone who knows nothing about the good
that takes place there.
I would consider it a privilege to speak or meet with any city
official who has an interest in hearing the truth about these wonder
people and the services they provides. WE stand beside Narconon and
will defend their organization with all available resources.
Sincerely,
Joseph Barton

• Dear Glenn,
Enjoyed talking to you the other day. It is always good to hear your
voice. And many THANKS for all that you and NARCONON have done for cur
family. We are ALL fine and well and very grateful for the experience
Maury had at NARCONON.
This time last year we were so desperate to find a place where Maury
could come clean, recover and begin to start a new life. And NARCONON
did just that for her and us. I know we had some bumps in the road but
thank God we all survived and now face a better life.
As you know Maury was in bad shape. Through your program and a chance
in attitude she has come around and now has 6+ months of sobriety under
her belt. She enjoyed her visit with you all several weeks ago. It
meant so much to her to receive that 6 month recognition and we are all
so proud of her and what she has achieved. I know it wasn't an easy
road but she made it and continues to progress. We take one day at a
time and know that NARCONON taught her a new outlook and way to
continue a productive sober life.
You have such a good program. Your program is very much needed and I
hope you continue to make progress. Your facility is conducive to
recovery (but you do need more space!). Keep up the good work and
please feel free to call on us. We look forward to returning to
CA ... Tommy wants to play that round of golf you promised. And it would
• be treat to see CA in a totally different light.
If you are ever in Atlanta, please give us a call... would love to see
you.
Thank you for giving our daughter back to us and I wish you continued
success.
Tommy joins me in sending thanks to all.
Devotedly,
Susan James

When I came to the Narconon program I was a heavy drug user. I went through the
program and this program really saved my life. I have been clean now for six months and
it has been the best six months of my life. Now I am back working at the facility and am
starting a new clean happy life!

When I realized my daughter was a drug addict, I knew that I would have to find the "right' type of
place for her. I looked at many treatment centers and spoke with probably a hundred people
regarding treatment for her. The center and program that appeared to fit her needs was
Narconon - Newport Beach. This program addressed all aspects of addiction and did not use
medication (drugs) to help her recover from her drug addiction.
My daughter is now drug free for 10 months. It is wonderful to see the beautiful, intelligent person
she is come back to life. She is starting her life again, drug free, and I am very thankful I can be a
part of her life. I can only thank Narconon for giving her the tools to overcome her addiction.

To Whom It May Concern:
Before coming to Narconon I was in very bad shape. I thought there was no hope for me getting better. Then, when I
got here I was welcomed with open arms by all the staff and students who supported me every step of the way. Little by
little I started to feel better. I was starting to feel like I never even used drugs.
The tools that Narconon gave me to succeed in life Is hard to put Into words, but I feel confident that I'm going to live a
dean successful life. Looking back at how I was before coing here, the difference is like night and day. Without
Narconon's help, God only knows where I would be today. Now that I'm off drugs I am happy, earning money, and I am
responsible and I have Narconon to thank for all of this.

I feel great about myself. I have learned a new and positive way to live. I not only like myself,
but I love myself today! This program and the staff gave me tools to learn how to live a drug
free life. And I chose to learn it and apply it to my life. To live ahppy life drug free. I have also
begun to rebuild my relationship with my family and am greatful for that opportuntity. I love
them deeply and can now show them. I do thank Narconon and staff for giving me the choice to
learn to live and be successful!

Drugs nearly cost my family a son. Narconon saved him and return him to our family.
• I know that we hear, every day of the week, how bad the drug situation is in this country. But I
doubt that most people know either how bad the problem actually is, or that there is truly a
solution available. I know, first hand, the truth of both of those things.
It is the Narconon program that saved my step -son's life. It was Narconon that helped him
discover why he had the problem, and which gave him the ability to solve the problems and
become a contributing member of society. It was Narconon that returned a shinig human being
to our family.
Thank you, Narconon. Thank you so much for what you did and what you continue to do every
single day.
Sincerely,

The Narconon program saved my family from total annihilation.
• You never think about the people closest to you becoming drug addicts, or maybe more to the point, you
never want to admit that it could happen.
My father was the most straight laced person I had ever met. No drugs, no drinking, pretty much on the
straight and narrow all of his life. However, he happens to have a propensity to forming kidney stones.
Anyone who's ever had one will tell you it's the most painful thing you'll ever experience. Well, my
straight and narrow dad got himself hooked on painkillers, and hooked hard.
In reality, this was a situation for years. Neither my mother, my sister nor I wanted to recognize that the
situation was an addiction. But it was. No one wanted to be around him. He was either yelling at you or
crying or just overall void of emotion.
Then we discovered the Narconon Program. After much work to get him to go (needless to say, HE didn't
want to acknowledge the fact that he was addicted either), we brought him down to the Narconon facility
in Newport Beach.
Well, suffice to say. A little over 6 months later, I have my dad back. My kids have their grandpa back. My
mother has her husband back. Overall and more importantly, my dad has himself back, someone he
hadn't seen in awhile O.
When we get together now, it's the family I remember having as a kid, the family that was always there
for each other, not the way it was while he was on drugs.
Thank you Narconon for giving my dad back his life and a family back its father and husband
Sincerely,
• RK

I wish to express my thanks to the staff of Narconon Newport Beach for saving my son's life and
• bringing him back into our family.
When my son was at the absolute bottom of drug addiction, so far down in the mud that it
seemed that nothing could possible save him, Narconon picked him up, fixed what was broken,
and returned him to life as a drug -free, productive, loving member of society and of our family.
I cannot possible thank Narconon enough for what was accomplished. Without Narconon, my
son would certainly be incarcerated and, more likely, dead. He is neither of those things. He is
healthy, happy and contributing to his family and to his country.
Thank you, Narconon.

I nearly lost a brother to drug addiction.
is I did not lose him, however, thanks to the Narconon program. I know that there are thousands, if
not millions of families who are facing the horrors of having a family member who is addicted to
drugs. I know that there are not enough who know that the solution is a simple one - the
Narconon program. It works.
Thank you, Narconon, for what you did for my brother and for my family. I only hope that your
message of hope and truth are received by enough people who need you.
Sincerely,

I am going to try to put into words the thanks that I feel for Narconon having saved my father's
• life.
My father became addicted to prescription painkillers. The problem began legitimately enough,
as he has suffered from kidney stones for many years. But several years ago, while going
through a particularly bad bout of stones, he became hooked on the medication and did not stop
taking it after the stones had passed. He became completely and hopelessly addicted.
My father turned into a person who was not someone I had never met, someone I do not eves
wish to meet again. He withdrew from the family, began to mistreat my mother and generally
turned into a monster.
Then he went to Narconon Newport Beach. The program saved his life. The program saved our
family. It was more than simply getting my father off the medications. It was the fact that the
program gave him the skills and the opportunity to handle the very things which caused him to
become addicted in the first place. It was providing him with the wisdom to see what had gone
wrong in his life and then providing him with the answers to those problems which saved him
and saved our family.
I can think of no greater service to this society and to mankind aqs a whole than tht which
Narconon provides every day. I thank god for Narconon and for what it does to mend broken
lives, broken families and broken dreams.

My brother is very important to me. I love him, but drugs turned him into a person who I never
• want to see again. We all thought that it was over - that we had lost our brother and our son.
Then we found Narconon.
Narconon took my brother, helped him figure out his life and gave him the ability and the
determination to fix what was broken and to go on living as a drug -free, contributing member of
our family and of society. I know, with certainty, that, without the Narconon program, he would
have been lost to himself and to us forever.
My heartfelt thanks to Narconon, to the program and to the staff who deliver it, for all the
miracles that are: produced.
Thank you for giving my brother back to me.

Before I came here to Narconon my life was ruined. I was a low life nobody, who
thought I was somebody. I just wanted to fit in, be somebody. I was hanging out with
different groups, gangbanging hard, in and out of jail for years. Then finally came the
big one... my 2 year bid in the joint and a penitentiary boot camp to follow. I thought it
was me against the world and no one could stop me. The last time, I was sitting there in
jail, about to go to court, when at once "BOOM ", the cops took my life. I flat lined in the
hospital, and almost didn't make it. The doctor at Detroit Receiving brought me back, I
had an epidural hematoma. I was not supposed to make it, but by the grace of God, I did.
Then came the rain, the hidden tears, and the karma that had been facing me for years.
Then I went to Narconon. I thought it was going to be a joke like all of the other
institutions I had been to, but it had something, a feeling like I had never had before.
Right as I walked through the door, the staff members and students opened up their arms
to me. It was an emotion I had never experienced before. They picked me up when I
was down, no matter what origination I had they handled. They do that 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. We're like one big happy family. Something that some of us never
experienced until we came to Narconon. It is a blessing from God that I found Narconon.
They helped me change my life around. Not only did they help me get clean and cleanse
my body of all the toxins and drugs, they showed me how to live a successful and
productive life without drugs. This is something that no other place could do for me! So,
thanks to Na-conon I am alive and clean, and my relationships with my family and
friends is the best it's ever been in my life. They saved me!
Sincerely,
Jared Feldman

To Narconon Newport Beach
I am eternally grateful to the staff of your facility and the L. Ron Hubbard drug
rehabilitation program that you use for the help that you gave my family.
Although we had never been users of street drugs, my husband became addicted to
narcotic pain medication arising from a series of illnesses and surgeries. The effect on
him and me and the rest of our family was devastating, as he changed from someone we
loved and trusted to someone who seemed to be working overtime to do himself in and
take others along in the process. Our ability to trust him or depend on him was totally
destroyed.
Then he did the Narconon program. It was not easy at first. However, as he went
though the detox — a real detox that does not use other drugs to take the place of what he
was addicted to — and then the sauna program, he began to regain himself. But your
program did not stop there — it continued by giving him the hatting and tools to figure out
how he manaeed to become addicted in the first place, and how to conduct his life in the
future in order to prevent that from ever happening again.
Nov I have my husband back — and I have to say that he is shinier than he has
ever been. For the first time in his life, he truly knows what he wants to be doing with his
• life, he is doing it, and he loves what he is doing. And I don't have to worry about what
crazy thing is he going to do next.
Thank you for the wonderful work you are doing to help those who have
succumbed to the scourge of substance abuse, and keep up the good work?

To all the staff at Narconon,
It has been almost two months since I graduated from Narconon. I want to say thank you to every
one of the staff members that helped me through the program and made sure I didn't give up.
After seven years of cocaine use I finally hit "Rock Bottom "and decided to seek help. With the
love and support of my family we decided on Narconon mainly because of the Sauna
Detoxification Program and the high success rate of their graduates. We felt this program not only
helped cure my addiction, but helped me find the reason I started doing drugs in the first place. I
feel the Narconon program saved my life!
It feels good to be living life again and to finally be free from the addiction that was taking my life
away. I will forever be grateful to my family for their unconditional love and support and to
Narconon for saving my life and giving me a second chance.
Thank you,
Kristen Wright

I came to Narconon Newport Beach after a long awaited necessity to change my drinking
. behavior. When I arrived I was fearful, empty, confused, tired and alone! Although I
portrayed a very different image on the outside, I assure you I was a walking disaster
with very little to look forward to, if anything, in my life. Unbeknownst to me I had just
embarked on an adventure that would drastically change my life now and forever. I had
planned on a treatment program that would be time efficient and effective and that I
could complete in a relatively short period of time. Again. I was in for another surprise,
while at Narconon, I encountered several health problems and eventually ended up in the
hospital four times with kidney stones and upper GI issues. My short and sweet stay at a
rehab was turning into a life long ordeal or so it seemed. I had come to Narconon to
combat my abuse of alcohol and ended up going through opiate withdrawals from
medications given to me at the hospital, what a reality check!! After this I knew I was in
the right place and at the right time, NOW!
I have been here for six months and have just now completed the course, however this is
just the beginning. I now know and understand that this was such a stepping-stone for
me. I have so much more to experience and learn. I am so excited about my future and
the success and accomplishments I have to look forward to.
I now possess the strength, power and control to participate fully in the world today with
complete confidence , honesty and integrity. I have everything to look forward to in my
life and plan to go forward with the spirit and energy that I have been able to rediscover
through and with the guidance of Narconon and it's technology. I am now such an asset
ato myself. others and the planet and I intend on being a productive member of the
universe and making many contributions for many years to come. I finally feel so
complete. calm and comfortable in my own skin and I not only know who I am, but I
truly love myself. My outward display of extreme happiness now is directly indicative of
how beautiful and complete I feel on the inside. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you !!!!
With your help and the help of all the staff and students that touched my heart, I have
been given the opportunity to save my life and look forward to a long life ahead!

• To Whom It May Concern,
The Narcanon Program is a vital program for anyone who has a loved one who is
addicted to drugs or alcohol.
It was vital to my family. My husband became addicted to GHB which was
originally promoted to him as something that would increase muscle growth and
help his work -outs. It was anything but that and became something he couldn't
live without. It created havoc with his health, our marriage and our family.
I called Narcanon and spoke to Larry Trahant. I will never forget that day and all
the subsequent days of speaking to him. He explained what was happening to my
husband and what Narcanon could do for him. I would have been totally lost and
my husband would have more than likely died had it not been for those phone
calls. I knew that Lam and Narcanon truly cared and truly wanted to help.
My husband eventually came to Narcanon and began the program. I saw
tremendous changes in his health and in his responsibility for what had happened
to his life. He became totally drug free and we began to repair our marriage. My
husband also had to repair his relationship with his sons. All of this was done and
at every step of the way we were helped by Narcanon staff.
Our marriage is now back on track and my husband believed so much in this
program that he became a staff member and is now helping others like he has
been helped.
We could not have done this alone. Evervone here is terrific and the entire
organization is built around helping people. I know that after my experience I
would do anything to help Narcanon. I would consider them an asset to anyone's
life, organization or neighborhood.
Sincerely,
J.K. Terrell

To the Staff at Narconon Southern California:
I am a proud graduate of the Narconon Program and just wanted to take this
opportunity to say, "Thank You ".
I was never one to take drugs or drink heavily, but I reached a very low point
in my life where I unfortunately turned to alcohol to "help" resolve my
problems. I found myself in a deadly, downward spiral that I didn't have the
strength to pull myself out of I was fortunate enough to have the love and
support of my parents who found the Narconon program. With the help and
application of the Technology shown to me at Narconon, I was able to get
my life back! I have been able to successfully apply myself to my family
and to my career. I am happier now than I have ever been! I now know that
drugs and alcohol have absolutely no place in my life and I won't ever travel
down that road again.
My appreciation goes out to Narconon and all of its' staff for making
available a rehabilitation program where a person CAN get the help that they
need and be able to live a healthy, productive life! There is hope for getting
AND staying off of drugs and alcohol, that hope is NARCONON.
Sincerely,

To the Staff at Narconon Southern California:
I have a daughter who graduated from Narconon in April of 2002 and has
been a wonderful example of what the Narconon program is all about.
She was going through a very difficult time in her life where she became
very dependant on alcohol to get her through her days. It was at this point,
that her Dad and I found an article about Narconon and knew that we had to
give this a try for her sake. This proved to be the best decision we could
ever hope to make. Since successfully completing the Narconon program,
she has gone on to improve her life in so many different areas! The most
important and obvious changes have been to the care and dedication that she
has for herself and her children. She is now, again, the loving, caring
individual that we knew her to be before she allowed alcohol to consume her
life. She is a beautiful, happy, energetic woman who loves living again! We
know that we owe this to her willingness to apply what she has learned on
the Narconon program!!
Narconon, indeed, has saved my daughter's life and gave my grandchildren
back their Mom! Thank you, Narconon and all of the staff, for being the
only rehabilitation center that my daughter would ever need. I have the
highest regard for the Narconon Program and recommend it to any parent
wishing to stop the hurt that their child is going through if they are involved
in the use of drugs or alcohol.
Sincerely,
L.D.

I have what I believe may be a somewhat unique perspective on the matter. I am 55 years old and,
although I was a college student in the mid to late 1960s, I never took, or even considered taking, any
illicit drugs. I was not a drinker of alcohol. Through the intervening decades, in spite of the increasing
popularity and availability of recreational drugs, and in spite the fact that my economic condition would
certainly have permitted me to indulge a drug habit, the possibility of my sliding into drug or alcohol abuse
was not something that ever even occurred to me. As I approached middle age, I was so sure that only a
weak, irresponsible person would ever develop such a problem, that I regularly voted against public
support for drug programs, rehabilitation efforts and education. I simply felt that they were not necessary.
There must be some grand design which requires that one who resists something as vehemently as I
resisted the creation, dissemination and support of such programs must become personally affected by
the need for them. In many cases, this comes from the addiction of a close friend or relative. I, apparently,
needed a stronger "wake -up call."
As a kidney stone sufferer, I have, over the last thirty years, taken painkillers of many kinds. For most of
that time my use of the medications ended when the stone passed or was removed surgically.
Approximately seven years ago, I had a particularly difficult, protracted bout with kidney stones, one
which lasted for six months and landed me in the hospital six times. Although immediately after that
period I did stop taking the medications which were administered in the hospital and prescribed for home
administration, I had entered a period of stone production which repeated itself every several months, and
my use of medications to control the pain began to increase, at first imperceptibly, but with a steadiily
increasing certainty. In early 1999 1 again suffered an attack, and, as usual, was prescribed painkillers. I
took them for the stones, but, this time, continued to take them after the stone had passed.
By the time I realized what was happening, by the time I decided that I had to stop taking the medications,
two things had occurred. First, I had lost all sense of myself, my family, and my profession. I was no
longer myself, but I did not realize it. Second, although I truly wanted to stop taking the medications,
although I knew that I was abusing them, each time I tried the pain was so intense (both mentally and
physically) that I simply could not confront it, so I continued to take it. Numerous times over a period of
three years I resolved to stop, to taper my use down to zero, and failed each time. Finally, on December
6, 2002, 1 reached the point at which I knew I had to stop or die. It was as simple as that.
That evening I took my last tablet. The next four weeks were a living hell. I suffered more shear physical
and mental torture than I had believed possible. No Torquemada could ever devise a torture more painful.
I wanted to die, but knew that I could not. In addition to going through this myself, I was further tortured by
knowing that the entire experience was tearing my wife apart. During one of my more lucid moments, my
wife and my grown daughter told me that they felt that I needed to undergo an effective rehabilitation
program. Although it took me a few days to come around to their way of thinking, I decided to come to
Narconon.
That decision saved my life.
I completed the program more than six months ago. I am not going to say that I am a different person
than I was when I came to Narconon. I AM going to say that I am, again, myself, and myself is a pretty
good thing to be. I have myself back. I have my family back. And my family has me again. The real me
- not the me who was being run by drugs.
I have witnessed miracles here at Narconon well beyond simply what I have experienced myself. I was a
middle -aged "pillar of society." I hold a Master of Business Administration from a major East Coast
university, was Executive Vice - President of a public corporation, am marred to a successful attorney,
have two grown children and three grandchildren. I have still never taken drugs recreationally, and never
came even close to abusing alcohol, as have so many of my peers. That is the perspective with which t
came to Narconon. Being here, I have placed myself on the same terms as a number of young people
who have lived a major portion of their lives as drug and alcohol addicts, kids who have not yet learned
the definition of responsibilty and who completely lack direction in life. Without some drastic change,
without the intervention of a program which can truly effect a change in a person's life, most of these kids
would be doomed to relatively short, miserable lives. I have seen, and continue to see, lives saved by
this program.
Mine is one of them.
Is this program necessary? No, not necessary. It is vital. If we are to stand any chance of salvaging this
society from the ravages of free access to and use of mind altering drugs, if we are to save families like
mine from being shattered by the use of drugs, whether illegal or prescribed, we must support programs
like this, create an environment in which they can expand, and encourage everyone who has a problem
with chemicals, whether they want to admit it or not, to take advantage of what will prove to be the
greatest experience of their lives.

I was at the end of my rope and could no longer hope that the situation,
would ever change, but one Monday my fiance saw a story on ABC News
about drug abuse and called me immediately. He knew how desperate I
was for a miracle. I went to the ABC News website, found the story and
clicked on the link to a drug rehab program.
The program was one I had never heard of ... Narconon. I clicked on t.,^ _
email link, briefly told my story, and within an hour was talking to
someone at Narconon. After telling my story, one we all know too well,
the Narconon representative asked if she could call my daughter. As it
happened, I had just given her my cell as I needed to be able to
contact her lust to make sure she was still alive. The rep called my
daughter and called me back an hour or so later to say it went well and
my dauahter. My daughter then called and said she would go. That was
a Monday and she was on a plane from New Yor}, to California on
Thursday.
After ten years of shattered hopes and dreams, I finally began to
believe that there was light at the end of the tunnel. When I went to
visit_ two months later, my daughter was back. She looked great,
sounded great and my heart burst.
Narconon made it all possible. Had it not been for the Narconon

My name is Jeffrey Arcy. I attended the Narconon program in
New Port Beach during the fall of 2001. This program both saved
and changed my life! The learning and technology that is provided
is simply outstanding.
10 Since the completion of the course, I have made many life
changes. Today I am completing my doctorate degree in
Organizational Behavior. I have been published twice this month.
Best yet is that I can assist others. This is only due to the
Narconon experience.
The faculty at New Port were one of the most important
components to my recovery. Their care and focus on improvement
is underestimated. I am willing to make personal references for
each.
I hope all is well with you and wish you only the best.

Dear Gerry;
• Just thought we'd touch base with you. It has been a year since our
son Ryan has completed the program there at Narconon. We are so
grateful that he is home, well, and happy. The Narconon program gave
us back our son. We will be forever grateful to the program for what
it has done for our son and family.
The program not only helped Ryan to get off drugs but gave him the
tools to deal with life and better his own surroundings. It has helped
him stay true to himself and to understand what makes him happy and do
better in life.
He is now going to school and working full time. He is fun to be
around and he likes to be around his family. He has goals and is
working at them. He has a new found maturity and ability to deal with
problems and those around him.
Thanks again for all that the program has done.

To Whom It May Concern,
• This is a letter to tell everyone that Narconon works. Our son, Jason, has been drug & alcohol
free for two years. My husband & I went through several years taking Jason to therapy trying to
help him with his substance abuse problem. Nothing we did worked. Always feeling guilty, anger
& worrying all the time, we know we had to do something. I searched the intennet for rehabs, I
found Narconon. It was Larry, who convinced Jason to come to Newport and try the program.
What did he have to loose, nothing.
After 2 months into the program, we went out to visit him, what a change. We could not believe
how wonderful he looked and felt. After finishing their program, Jason decided to stay and work
there. One day, hopefully, he will come back home (East Coast) to finish college. He is a bright,
compassionate person and has a wonderful future ahead of him, thanks to Narconon. I would
recommend this program to anyone who has a child they love and want to help.
Thank you Narconon,

1 am writing regarding the complaints that have been made against Narconon Southern
California. My name is Jennifer Olech and I am a graduate of the Narconon Southern
California drug rehab center.
When I walked though the door at Narconon I was greeted by friendly faces, generosity
and hospitality that I had never expected. It didn't seem as though I was entering a drug
rehab, it was more reminiscent of a warm home full of friends and family.
• The Narconon program encompasses all areas of drug addiction recovery. These areas
include: withdrawal, detoxification, communication, ethics, self control, self - esteem, and
the ability to determine characteristics of social and anti- social personalities. The
education one receives at Narconon aids not only in the recovery of drug addiction, but
the betterment of the individual.
Throughout my program at Narconon I learned what it meant to live life without drugs.
Narconon taught me personal ethics, as well as morals. I was able to see life from
another point of view. That is when I realized "I am responsible for my actions." I
learned communication skills that are invaluable to me today.
The complaints regarding students being rude, vomiting, and excessive smoking are hard
to imagine. The Narconon staff is made up of individuals who truly care about humanity
and ending drug addiction. The strong ethics and values possessed by the Narconon staff
filters down to the students.
With this being said, please take into consideration the excellent work that Narconon has
• done over the years. The lives that they have saved and the people they have helped.
This program is helping humanity. Narconon in no way would tolerate the unethical
behavior the students are being accused of.

To whom it may concern,
Our son, Jacob, entered the narconon program 4 years ago with an addiction to herion. We
thought we would loose him forever. Narconon was recommended to us from a variety of people
and professionals in a unique and simultaneous way. With so many treatment programs'out
there' we took the hint that perhaps Narconon would 'work' for Jacob. It has. Jake worked at the
Newport site for 2 years post graduating which taught him how to transition into taking care of
himself and his well -being and to sustain himself emotionally and financially. He is sober and
productive to this day; living on his own, holding a full -time job, and is in a wonderful relationship
with a young woman he met at Narconon Newport.
We recommend Narconon Newport to all who might find themselves or their loved ones in need.

To Whom It May Concern:
• Narconon saved our son's life. Narconon's intervention stopped Ben's downward spiral through
alcohol and ever more dangerous drugs. This is not what we had in mind for our youngest son.
Ben was raised in a stable, two parent family whose father was the president of a mid sized
construction company and his mother was a full time, stay -at -home mom. Ben has a successful,
well adjusted brother and sister. Church and leading a God -centered life was an integral part of
Ben's youth. It remains one our most painful challenges to try to understand what happened in
Ben's life that resulted in his descent into drugs and alcoholism.
At this most difficult time, a business acquaintance suggested we check out a place in Newport
Beach called Narconon that had an unusually high success rate in helping clients deal with their
addictions. Within hours Ben was enrolled which proved to be a fife changing process for Ben
and indirectly, his parents. Narconon's philosophy reinforces moral values like self - discipline,
personal responsibility, building trust, good health and in general leading an ethical life.
While Ben will always need to be vigilant to insure he remains clean and sober, he now has
regained control of his life and is working to help others overcome the same challenges he is
successfully conquering. In a recent visit to a Narconon facility we were able to talk to clients and
observe the heating that transforms damaged lives. We are thankful every day that there is a
place like Narconon that so effectively treats those struggling with addictions, especially our son,
Ben.

From: Debbie Delitier
Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for all you
have done for me. As most of you know, up until about 3 years ago I had been a
successful career woman in the IT industry for 25 years when suddenly and for no
apparent reason I developed a serious drinking problem that ultimately ruined my life.
Once I spotted it I immediately began seeking help from several different rehabilitation
organizations, including yours. I want to let you know that of all the programs I looked
at and /or tried yours was by far the best. I'd like to see more insurance companies get
behind your program. It would be in there benefit.
First, I would like to state for everyone that I do not believe there is a single
rehabilitation program that can "cure" a person of any problem, drugs, alcohol, or
• otherwise. I do believe the only person who can "cure" someone is that person him/her
self.. After all, no one can fully predict someone else's future. What that person may
yet have to confront in life. Or how that person will ultimately handle a given situation.
But I do believe that once an individual has made up his /her own mind to seek help,
then and only then, can that person receive and except help. Forcing someone to
attend a program because of legal issues or pressure from family and friends rarely
ever works.
With that said, I would like to state that your organization is outstanding by far. You
never gave up on me or stopped caring about me. You stood by me on and off for 3
grueling years to help me resolve my problem. You always took me back when I
needed help and you always found more for me to handle, confront, and learn each
time. You eased me back into taking responsibility for and control of my life and the
environment around me again. You did this by helping me confront my past, in the
present, so that I can have a better tomorrow. Furthermore, you provided me with tools
that I could take with me and use to monitor and control the rest of my future. That is a
gift beyond measure!

I can't say your program was easy in fact it was far from that. But 1 can say it was
essential for me to recover my life. You not only helped me cleanse and heal my body
safely and naturally but you helped me find me again. The person I know myself to be
not what everyone else perceives or desires me to be. You helped me regain my inner
strength, confidence, self- respect, and self -worth and you gave me back the ability to
choose my own friends and acquaintances. Most of all though you taught me that "I am
in control of my life — not anyone or anything else —1 am in control of my life once
again!"
I don't believe I could have made it without your help and support. I do believe I am
"cured" of my alcohol problem, for life. So once again I want to thank each and every
staff member who worked with me. I would also like to thank all the students I met
along the way in your program for all their love, support, and life long friendships. I
have never met a more diverse, fun loving, caring group of people from all walks of life
until Narconon.
To Whom It May Concern:
• I'm a completely different person today than I was when I arrived for my first day at Narconon. I first came
to Narconon feeling completely depressed, lonely, scared, paranoid, and just about anything else that would
make killing myself seem better and better all the time. It wasn't until after a couple of weeks after I began
the program that I started to feel a bit better about myself. I was making friends easily and more and more
came out of my introverted shell. I have to admit that the first couple of weeks did seem like the longest.
After I got comfortable around everyone, the time just flew by. I mean, I felt like I was in a great big
family.
My true colors didn't fully materialize until I was about finished with the sauna portion of the program. It
was like one day I woke up feeling completely refreshed and energized. I've been smiling and laughing
ever since then. Smiling and laughing is the one thing that I missed about the old me and I didn't think I
would ever be able to do that again. After I completed the sauna, I was telling some people who had just
started, that it's just the most amazing feeling to have and to be patient because it'll happen.
I was at Narconon for about another month after I completed the sauna. It was so cool to see my
friends that I started the program with just blossom into such happy people. A couple of us would chat with
some of the new students and try to comfort them because we were once at that point. When the
time came for graduation, I felt very proud of myself for overcoming a big problem that would've eventually
taken my life. For the first time in years, I have a sense of inner peace that would have been impossible
had it not been for Narconon.

My name is Vivian Miranda and I am writing so that you may gather additional insight
on a fantastic program in your community. The Narconon is a program that is well over
due and programs such as this are in short supply to those who are in need of treatment.
Thus, I'd like to take a moment to share with you my experience and knowledge of
Narconon, and how it saved my family.
I am a mother of three children although my husband and I have been involved in raising
foster children for the county for nearly 25 years. Throughout this time, I've seen
hundreds of kids being dropped off and, for most part, I've seen what was once a troubled
child leave my home as a confident adult to become a positive member of our
community. Yet, over the same period of time I've also seen a steady climb in the
number of those who get caught up in substance abuse. In many cases, good individuals
who for one reason or another get lead down the wrong path to find their addictions have
taken over and ruined their lives. My son found himself on that wrong path and the once
successful husband, father, and businessman found that his addiction had stripped all
these areas of his life clean.
Just when we felt we had lost him forever, we discovered the Narconon Program. Here,
my son was given the tools needed to break away from habits, addictions, and attitudes
that often kept him using. The program offered counseling and helped him build a
positive self - esteem. Without this program, I believe my son and his family would be
. destroyed by his drug use. Narconon's program helped my son to take back his life and
gave his wife and two children the opportunity to be a real family,
I hope you take a moment to realize this wonderful program called Narconon, truly helps
those who are looking to break free of drug addiction and gives second chances to their
families.

Vivian Miranda

RE: Narconon program
My name is Ric Perry I live in Kuna, Idaho, I have been married for 24 years,
am the father of two great kids and have had my own successful small business
for over eleven years.
I have had a problem with alcohol over the years and it was causing heartache
for me and my family. In May of 2002 I enrolled into Narconon at Newport
. Beach for treatment. This program turned my life around! I learned so much
about how abusing drugs can ruin a person. The staff at Narconon is well
educated in treating people with drug and alcohol problems and they show you
how to live a happy, full and productive life without drugs.
During my stay at Narconon Newport Beach I was well supervised the whole
time I was there. The staff was very friendly and professional. I graduated for
the program in July of 2002. I believe in this program very much. As I said
before, this program turned my life around. If you have any questions, please

You ask how my daughter's recovery from addiction affected our family
and my mind thumbs through Emily Dickinson's poems.
Pain has an element of blank
It cannot recollect
When it began, or if there were
A day when it was not.
I answer, for us all, it's over, but, most of all, it's over for
Jeanne. We all love her too much to not recogni--e that, no matter how
great our agony, hers more than matched ours. The small precious life
with which we're each entrusted is being nurtured now by her into the
wonderful thing we're all asked to make of it. That is really our only
challenge: sort of a Marine - Corps -like command from God to be the best
we can be.
In another Dickinson poem she writes about something that so many
family members and Jeanne herself had abandoned: hope.
Hope is the thing with Feathers
That perches in the soul
For us all, hope is back and I believe we see Narconon as a place which
empowers addicts to take control of their lives and chai_ences them
each to become the fully unique person they are. And I do acres that
by following the tenants of Narconon addicts can become ethical, drug -
free, and productive contributing much to all who touch their lives.

Dear Sirs,
• I am writing this letter to let any and all know about how the Narconon program has
saved my life. I came to Narconon in July, 2002. I had been in and out of rehabilitation
centers for nearly four years. I didn't think that this would be any different than the
others, but I desperately needed help. I was very skeptical at first and I wasn't even sure
if I wanted to try again. I had almost given up on life. After a couple of weeks of being
in the program, my whole outlook on life began to change. When I was finished with the
program, I knew that I had been given the tools to live a healthy and happy life. I want
to thank the Narconon program as well as the Narconon staff for all that they have done
for me. I would recommend this program to anyone in the world who is seeking a life
free from alcohol and drug addiction.

• Dear Narconon,
We sent Toby to Narconon in California in June. At first it was hard for him just
like it would be for anybody going through DT's. He made a lot of friends and
really like the staff there. Since he has been back, he has worked everyday. He
has a house that he is remodeling for him and his children to live. At first his dad
and I were skeptical about him coming back to this small town where all his drug
problems began, but now we know we can trust him to do the right thing.
Narconon has made him our son again and we really appreciate them for that. If
we were rich we would send all the troubled kids in this town with drug problems
to Narconon. If you can change Toby and I know that wasn't easy, you can help
anyone. I could write a book about his life but just wanted to say Thank you so
much.
Respectfully Yours,

Dear Sir,
I wanted you to know what Narconon has done for my entire family. My brother was a drug
addict for many years and has been through numerous drug programs and always went right
back to the old lifestyle. Unless you have had a person who you have been close to on drugs, you
cannot imagine the heartache and sleepless prayer filled nights that it entails. We never wanted
to answer our phone after 12 at night, because we were afraid it would be the call that we all
dreaded, that my beloved brother had finally taken too much, and that someone had found him
dead. I literally prayed constantly, and still remember my heart racing every time I thought about
his addiction, and waited for the next shoe to drop. He was in 3 rehabs, but something was not
clicking. Finally, my miracle came, as someone told me about Narconon, and how high their
success rate was, and most impressive, that if a client was in good standing with the community,
but had slipped back into addiction, Narconon would allow that person back into the program at
no additional charge to the family, and this alone told me that they were completely different than
any other program I had spoken with or read about. I will never forget the day that my brother got
on the plane to go, I wish I could tell you I was hopeful, but as I was the only one left in the family
who had not given up completely, I could not afford one more disappointment concerning this. My
brother called me about 3 days later, and I could definitely tell he was not high. Several weeks
after that he began calling every family member and person that he had harmed, wanting to make
up the damage not be apologizing, but he wanted to do something for each and every one of
them. He paid all of his debts, is always doing something in the name of goodness, his most
recent being providing a brand new steam cleaner and commercial vacuum to a battered
woman's shelter, because he heard they needed one. My brother went from being a drug
addicted con artist to being on of the most caring individuals I have ever known, he is always is
giving back to his community and loved ones At has been over 20 years ago, but I
still will get chills when I share this story, and I have, with anyone who will listen. I pray that you
will never know the heartache of a drug addicted loved one, but statistically, that is almost
impossible. Every family will be touched directly or indirectly by drugs, and it is so comforting to
know that Narconon is still there, not only helping people to be drug free, as many programs do
. while the person is in treatment. What Narconon does different is obvious, they work with the total
person, encouraging them to not only reconnect to their families, but to become viable in the
community. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is I want to personally thank your
community for housing such a center, in doing this, you are a positive force for good.
If you would like to meet with me, I would gladly fly in at my own expense. Feel free to call me
anytime concerning anything about Narconon. My brother is truly a gift in my life, and he would
not be here if not for the miracle of Narconon.
Sincerely,
Sherry L. Villemuer

. To Whom It May Concern:
When I first met my boyfriend he was struggling with a drug addiction.
His family and I watched as it progressively got worse and finally i
knew he needed to get help before it was to late. He went to Narconon
were he started his program and before my eyes he developed into a
totally new, positive person. Narconon not only helped him get clean,
but also taught him morals and positive techniques to live his life and
not only stay clean, but also be happy. He stayed three months and
completed his program and now 2 months after graduating his program, he
is still there helping others who are struggling with the same problems
he had. Narconon not only helped him, but they saved his life.

To Whom It May Concem:
I have seen people do the various steps of the Narconon Program, which has helped them
everyday, lead a better more productive life. The difference from before they did these
steps and after is unquestionably & remarkably life changing. It is difficult to tell
someone something, which they have not experienced but being around the people on the
program, I can say the people have changed doing this program and no longer are going
to be a burden to society; That is big!!

To Whom It May Concern:
I am a mother that has been through one of the most heart wrenching experiences any Mom
could ever go through. I came very close to losing my oldest boy to drug addiction. I tried
everything, and finally had to put him in God's hands and hope for the best After several rehabs,
and even some jail time for driving under the influence, I finally had to lovingly detach from him
just to keep my sanity and to continue to raise my other children that were much younger than
him.
Several months after doing so, I recieved a phone call from my son, my real son, the one that I
had before the drugs. It was the miracle I had been praying for. My son was given back to me
because of Narconon. He expressed such remorse for everything he had done while under the
influence and was now taking complete responsibility for his life.
You could not have given me a million dollars for that phone call, and I am as grateful today as
I was 26 years ago. He now spends his life sharing his story and helping other people to be free
of the chains of addiction. He is always available for his family and proudly I can say he is the
apple of my eye.
Recently I asked him what finally made the difference, and he said immediately, Narconon
helped me to get to the root of my addiction, and they strongly encouraged me to take complete
responsibility for my life. He said the support and encouragement by the staff members provided
a solid place for him to work on all of his issues.
I just wanted to not only share my story, but to let you know how grateful I am that Narconon
exists in your community and in so many other corners of the world. It gave me my oldest boy
back and because of that, there are no words to express how grateful I am to them. Thank you so
much for your time.
Sincerely,
Judy A Clark

Dear Sirs,
• I came to Narconon in March of 1999 after using drugs
and alcohol since my early teens, that was nearly 19
years of abuse. Narconon got me in to communication
with people and my surroundings again. The detoxification
program was excellent, I have a healthy body now and
feel great. The staff members that help me get through
the program were former users themselves, so they
understood my problem and rehabilitated me. Narconon
trained me to have the ability to confront any problem
that I might be having, thus bringing one into
communication for a resolve. The staff helped me
realize that I had this simple but extremely important
skill, communication. Thank you Narconon.

0 RE: Hope Robison
To all the staff and students at Narconon;
I want to thank you so much for helping my Daughter, Hope.
As you know, Hope is a bright 19 year old that grew up in a comfortable
home with two parents that love her more than words can say. She was
happy, popular and very outgoing. Shortly after graduating high school
many of her close friends moved away. Her friends that remained
developed new interests. Hope did not welcome the changes that were
occurring. She became combative and depressed. She made new friends.
Within days, these new friends had taken control of her life. She
allowed this to happen because she felt these people were her
only "true" friends. As she put they would always "watch her back ".
This new group introduced her to drugs, alcohoi and crime. THIS ALL
HAPPENED SO QUICKLY WE HAD NO OPPORTUNITY TO PREVENT IT.
When we learned what she was doing, we as parents did everything in our
power to help her, but I soon realized we needed outside help. I
contacted our family doctor for suggestions but got nowhere. I
immediately realized we were on our own.
I prayed for an answer. In desperation I went on the Internet to look
for drug treatment facilities. Narconon came up repeatedly. I called
Narconon in May of this year and spoke to Jack Terrell in Newport
Beacn. I explained in detail the problem's my daughter was having. Jack
assured me they would be willing to help and explained the program in
detail. I knew immediately Narconon was our best chance to save our
Daughter. We confronted Hope with the choice of entering the Narconon
program or leaving her home and family. This was one of the most
difficult things a parent can do. I thank God she chose Narconon.
Although I had only talked to Jack a few times, I drove my beautiful
daughter, Hope, to Newport Beach on May 9th, 2003, to leave her with
people I did not know. It was very scary for us, since Hope had never
been away from home more than one or two days at a time. At first, of
course, said she did not need to be there. She pleaded desperately to
come home. She said it was a big waste of our money. Early in her
treatment she moved to the facility in Warner Springs. It was
there, through counseling, education and support in a positive
environment, she got her life back and we got our Daughter back.
If it had not been for Narconon, Hope surely would be dead or
incarcerated. For this, words alone could not express our gratitude. I
will always feel that Frank in Warner Springs and the rest of the
Narconon staff saved my Daughters life.
Hope has many fond memories of her stay at Narconon and has made many
friends. She talks often of the lessons and principals she learned. She
has her life back. The cost of Hope's treatment was over $20,000. I
consider it by far the best investment I have ever made. Hope and I
returned to Narconon to visit recently. (I was in the area on business
and Hope accompanied me). We attended the graduation ceremony of
two of her friends that she met while at Narconon. I am inspired by the
0
positive attitude, the atmosphere of positive change
of everyone there, students and staff alike. We look
next visit. I understand that there is a movement of

Having the facility at Newport Beach is important. For my Daughter, the
thought of being at the beach made the idea of going to Narconon
appealing, or at least manageable. Without that, she may have chosen
leaving home. Luckily we will never know.
I look forward to talking with you and visiting you in the future. If
we can be of assistance in any way, just ask!

First let me say that unless you have personal experience with a family member that has a
• drug problem it is hard to relate to the issues at hand. You have to remember that most of
the people entering a drug rehab program do not even think they have a problem, or at
least don't want to admit it. Many do not wish to do anything about it but are "forced" to
go into rehab because the courts have put them in one or a close family member has put
them into one, or a family member "guilt" them into a program. Many do not care about
themselves —they are depressed, lack self - esteem, suicidal, come from dysfunctional
families, and many other reasons but are too long to list. Self- medication is a primary
issue due to psychological issues such as mood disorders. Support for the individual is
very important and lacks in many of the cases because either there is no support available
or people close to the "addict" does not want to be involved.
To say that rehab programs do not work is ridiculous. The program will only work as
much as the person in the program wants it to work. My son has been in three programs.
They were all reputable programs but 1 would say that the reason he has been in three
different programs is:
1) The first one was only 28 days and is based on the 12 -step theory.
This is the amount of time that our insurance would cover.) In our
instance money was not an issue. But, for most people it is a very
expensive proposition. This program was really a separate world (no
radio, newspapers, etc.) My son's response was positive and continued
the program at home by attending AA and NA meetings and going to an
out - patient program. But it didn't last long. Outside influences took
over and he returned to drugs. The program worked but was too short
and left too much up to the individual.
2) The second program that my son was in was primarily made up of
clients that had a criminal record. He felt like a convicted felon and did
not feel that he belonged there. He was often afraid that he would be
attacked by someone, etc. Needless to say, he left the program on his
own volition and hitched a ride to the beach and tried to find work. It
was at the beach that he found himself surrounded with drinking and
drugs and a lack of self - control threw him back into the old routine.
3) The third program that my son went to and is still in is Narconon.
This program has saved my son's life. He has completely turned
around. Although he is not out of the woods yet, there is promise that
he will be a productive individual and add to society. I would say that
the program has worked in this case because of the length of time that a
person goes there. He has been there 6 months (and remember that is 6
months clean and sober). A person can stay there as long as it takes for
him or her to get better. They are not rushed and proceed at there own
pace. He has freedom, can watch television, play cards, go to the town
and have some normalcy. The structure of the program is where the
client is actually a "student" and takes a variety of set instructional
• classes. They have certain chores that they are expected to do such as
make their beds and clean their own rooms, be on time to classes, etc.
is The courses they take are related to self - improvement, responsibility to
one's self and books are provided on each of the subjects. The student
eventually "graduates" and in my son's case, stays at the facility for an
additional 6 months to a year or maybe longer to act as a mentor and
provide guidance to people entering the program. This reinforces what
they have gone through as well as helping someone in a similar
situation.
Rehabs are one of the only things left for addicts and their families to turn to and to take
this avenue away by saying they don't work is one more excuse for the person in trouble
to use.
A concerned parent!

My name is George Veliskakis. I came to Narconon Chillocco on Sept. 31, 1997. I wanted my freedom. I had been on
• methadone for 3 years prior. I had tried many different methods to get and stay dean. My life revolved around drugs -
the people I associated with and the places I'd traveled. Across the country from coast to coast, I would get dean, but
not be able to stay that way.
Narconon gave me my freedom. The tools I got from Narconon made the difference. The sauna purification program
helped tremendously. Also, the courses I teamed gave me ways to Spot and handle what I was doing wrong that kept
me from my goals. The program was not easy - it took me 7 months to complete.
Narconon does not put a time limit on how long it takes to finish the program. That in itself shows how committed
Narconon is to saving lives.
Sincerely,
George Veliskakis

Re: Narconon
To Whom It May Concern,
We're writing to express our personal recommendation for the Narconon Program, especially concerning
the Southern California Division.
I have spent many years directing the sales and marketing efforts of one of the fourth largest business forms
manufacturers in the New York / New Jersey metropolitan area and appreciate the importance of a quality
support team.
Narconon is particularly dear to our hearts , as our son Glenn has gone through this program, and his
continued success is directly attributable to them. Their rehab program state with detoxification and
finishes with a personal psychological understanding of why that individual has taken to drugs or alcohol
and how they'll prevent a slide back into that same moracs. This no-nonsense program .administered by
people who understand the problems, is highly effective and confirmed by their enviable success ratio.
Drug and alcohol abuse is a growing concem of parents of both high school and college students, and is
now also deeply imbedded in the lives of many of our employees, managers, and company executives.
Quality programs and facilities where they can be cured are needed throughout our country. Narconon is a
• very positive addition to your local human services commitment.
We have another son living in the area who owns a business in Newport Beach.
When Glenn was struggling with a drug problem, Narconon's program in Newport Beach became the ideal
solution to our families needs.
Subsequently Glenn has remained drug free for the past five years, and is recidmg in Newport Beach and
living renewed life.
Yours truly,

Testimony from a Narconon graduate
•
My name is Jeroen Beukers and I graduated from the Narconon Program in 1988.
I have lived a drug free life ever since.
Here is my story:
I used to be a very upbeat kid, very athletic and a strait A student. I had lots of
enthusiasm in life, many goals for my future and came from a wealthy family that was
ready to support me the whole way towards a prosperous and successful life.
At age 15, my curiosity lead me into the claws of illegal substances; I started by
smoking hashish and marijuhana. After about 2years of using those drugs 1 went onto
heavier substances like LSD, psylocibine (hallucinogenic mushrooms) MDMA (ecstacy)
and cocaine.
My substance abuse resulted in a destroyed life; I gave up sports, 1 gave up my
studies and totally crashed my education, 1 lost all my goals in life as well as my
enthusiasm for living and growing as a being.
I was treating myself, my body, my friends my family and society as if they
• were my arch- enemies. 1 truly became an antisocial personality.
I was on a downward spiral which seemed endless and 1 had no hope of ever
being able to revert it.
By -mid 1988, someone who cared enough introduced me to the Narconon
Program in Switzerland. This is a drug rehabilitation program developed by humanitarian
and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard.
It is hard to put into words what this program did for me but I'll try; the first part
of the program helped me to fully get rid of the chemicals that were imbedded in my
body's cells. I could hardly believe at first that such a thing was physically even possible!
I did feel a great relief after this; physically and mentally.
The next step on the program taught me how to learn. This was a vital step for me
for I have since then been able to study any subject I ever wanted to with a much greater
speed and I am now actually able to apply efficiently any technology I learn. This study
technology which is part of the program will play a huge role in salvaging our society if
applied broadly.
On a later part of the program I learned how to communicate again with myself
and others; this changed my life-from there on out due to the importance of the ability to
40 communicate in life in order to survive, learn and interact with other people.
This not only helped me to regain abilities to extrovert from drugs, it also helped
• me to survive better in society and actually help other people as opposed to destroying
society.
The fuMwing steps of this program helped me regain my integrity and take full
responsibility for. the damage I did to myself and society. It actually prompted me to
repair the damages I did and I then regained my pride.
From there on I had the tools to survive better and 1 gained the ability to be a
contributive member of society.
I have lived honestly ever since, built a family of three happy children and am
presently helping Narconon save lives from the grips of drugs.
I have lived happily ever since the Narconon program saved my life.
I will never be able to thank the Narconon staff enough for rehabilitating me and
the other tens of thousands graduates worldwide; they committed themselves to help
getting rid of society's biggest enemy that ever plagued our world. They are working
every day, endlessly and tirelessly to salvage our society instead of whining in front of
their TV, saying how bad everything is.
Thanks to them I have been able to revert the downward spiral I was engaged
• upon and am now able to help others do the same.
I have decided now to do everything in my power to help Narconon in its mission
to salvage society.
Thank you for reading.

To who it may concern;
• 15 years ago I was heroin addict, living on the streets of NYC, contributing to the denigration of that city.
I had been an addict for over 13 years. I had tried various ways to get off, to no avail. I was told about
Narconon and with my families support I entered the program. I have been clean for 15 years.
The program was so effective, not only with myself, but with the others around me - that I knew I had
participate in helping others find the Narconon Program. I joined staff. Over the past 15 years I have seen
thousands of people fully rehabilitated. I have seen thousands of people not only stop using drugs, but
become contributing members of society. It is the most incredible program I have ever seen. Without it I
would be dead - without question.

To whom it may concern,
Narconon has given me back my life. It has taught me how to be cause over the things I
do and the things that I am confronted with in life. It has given me a working technology
with which I can use with any study I engage in, and has allowed me to become
comfortable in any situation, so I can confront problems or emotions without running in
fear of them.
I am now working here as a staff member, and I am getting huge rewards everyday with
helping others here or in the community. There is a great connection between Narconon
Warner Springs and the community it is part of Not only does Narconon help get people
off of drugs, but also it restores individuals to a state they were in before ever using
drugs.
It is my grand hope that I can continue to help others and Narconon Warner Springs is
able to spread its goodwill to all who need it.
• Sincerely yours,
Mark Kotzer
For 6 years I was using drugs and alcohol and my life was a mess. I
had my doubts about rehab centers. So, I wasn't really interested in
going to one. I decided that I didn't want to do drugs anymore. My
parents helped me get into Narconon So. Cal. I completed the required
material and made sure that I really comprehended everything. I
graduated Sept. 20, 2002 and I have never used since. I learned more
about being comfortable with myself and having more self control
through the program and my life is much more happy now that I have
completed the program. I have a plumbing business that is doing very
well now. And, now I really believe in Narconon.
Thank you,

• To Whom It May Concern:
1 am a 34 year -old man who started using drugs at the age of eleven. I entered my first rehab
at 20, the second at 22, and at 24 found myself in prison for six years for drug use and sales. 46
days after I was released from prison I was arrested yet again for possession of controlled
substances and sent back in for another two years. Regardless of effort, intention, or desire, I
could not pull myself out of the cycle I had created.
In August of 2002, 1 found myself doing all of the drugs I could obtain and on the run from
parole. My entire family could no longer bear to see me or deal with me. I was weary and
hopeless and just wanted everything to end, regardless of the means. Through various
maneuverings, my family managed to get me to Narconon. Had I not landed there, I sincerely
believe that I would have been dead within two months, at the latest.
Through the program there I was given the opportunity and the tools to end the cycle I had
perpetuated and — more than that — actually begin to create a healthy and ethical life.
I have not used drugs since I entered Narconon. That simple fact is, in itself, remarkable. I
have loving and supportive relationships with all of my family again for the first time in about 15
years. I work and go to college full -time. This month my parole agent submitted a
recommendation that I be released from supervision. My life has changed wondrously... Actually,
to be more precise: Thanks to Narconon, today I have a life.

Dear Gerry,
Our wonderful son Mike was the light and joy of our lives. An
only child, he enjoyed the attention of doting parents, grandparents,
aunts and uncles. Both of us are professionals, and we thought we gave
him a wonderful childhood. He had, we thought, everything he wanted
and needed, including much love and attention. The warning sign came in
private school; I punished him, took him to counseling; and, after
that, thought everything was fine. His downward spiral began when he
was 18; for three years he hid his addiction. This handsome, charming,
outgoing son became a liar and a thief -- anything to support his habit.
Thanks God for Narconon. We tried several rehabs -- including a
very expensive 28 day program that was not covered by insurance.
Nothing worked. In despair, I looked on the Internet under long terT
care -- something I knew he needed, because a mere few weeks could not
help him. A counselor helped me understand what the program was about;
he explained that it was the only hope for some people.
The smartest thing we ever did for our son was to get him on a
plane, cross country, three weeks after 9 -11, and into the Narconon
program. He was successful, after some bumpy starts, and he stayed on
to become a counselor in their program. He is now going back to
college; he wants to be a nurse. This, from a kid who a few years ago
was a hopeless addict; this much loved son of two parents and a family
who loves him dearly has become a success story. He is the son of
comfortable, educated parents- -but a few years ago he was facing either
jail or death due to addiction. Narconon pulled him out of the depths
and gave him- -and those of us who love him —hope and encouragement. I
bless them every day.

Dear sirs,
• I am compelled to write to you on the subject of drug rehabilitation. As someone who has over 4 years of sobriety, I
feel that my view in this area does carry some weight and is worth noting. My past held over 15 years of drug and
alcohol abuse to its credit.
My addictive habits started in my early teens and thrived in my mid to late twenties. At the latter stage, I noticed a
change in what I found to be morally and ethically correct. With this came criminal behavior that cost me my business
and my freedom. For I was not only bound by my addiction, I was also incarcerated in the LA. County jail system.
Upon my release from jail, I knew that I needed to change my lifestyle and habits. The problem was how and with
what. I was stuck right back where I started and I had no new tools to work with. It was at this point that I contacted
Narconon in Newport Beach.
This program gave me a new setting to begin a new life. In addition to a new location, I embarked on a structured
schedule that made my body, mind, and spirit soar. To rehabilitate, by definition, means to restore to health or normal
life by training and therapy after imprisonment, addiction, or illness. Well, that is exactly what happened. I have never
felt as good as I do today.
The point of this letter is to impart the understanding that I could in no way have recovered my life to the degree that
I have without the help of the Narconon program. Although it may be true that not all addicts have needed a program to
kick their drug or alcohol habit, what is we is that they can be Wing a better, more fulfilling life free from the traps
people are prone to find themselves in. I know because I am and my friends and family could not agree more.
Sincerely,
• Glenn Farnsworth

Dear City of Newport Beach,
My name is David Farnsworth and I am the owner of a LaVentina's Big Cheese Pizza
here in Newport Beach. I am writing you to give you some input and express my support
for the Narconon Program and the miracles that happen there on a daily basis.
I am familiar with Narconon because I saw this program help save my brothers life
several years ago. There are, unfortunately, a large number of good and productive
people that get sidelined by drug addiction and this is one of the few programs on the
• planet that can get them cleaned up and back on their own two feet.
There is another aspect of Narconon that I wanted to bring attention to. As a business
owner, I can say that this program brings a good amount of commerce into our local
community. Narconon has turned out to be one of our best and most consistent accounts.
It is not another government funded no results program. They are a well run professional
organization, handle themselves responsibly, and pay their bills on time.
With my restaurant right down the street from their facility in Newport Beach, I can say
that they are great neighbors, and it is a pleasure to see them everyday. I offer my total
support for the program and for the fine people working there. From a community and
financial standpoint, it is a responsible and sound decision to allow Narconon to grow
and prosper in our great community.

• 1 have been a doctor for 20 years. I spent my youth outside the US
so please forgive any incorrect English. In all my career I never saw
any rehabilitation program work as the Narconon Program does.
The first time I saw it was 9 years ago in Oklahoma when I went
to see by myself how it works.
I was really impressed, seeing people addicted to drugs such as
heroin get free from them by the use of specific amounts of vitamins,
magnesium and calcium and some precise drills which really helped
those people get through the painful withdrawal of the drug.
That really was something interesting for me as a scientist because
I know how these cases are normally handled by using other drugs
To substitute for the one they are addicted to and so the person becomes
addicted to the new one.
Another really interesting thing about this program is that
through its steps the person gets back his own values and
respect for himself, for life and for others.
I have been in other Narconon centers since that time (in Switzerland,
Canada, and here in the United States) and I'm really so proud to
know that the program started here in this country and now is being
used all around the world saving lives day after day.
• So miraculous is this program, that my husband, who was a user for
15 years and did 2 rehabilitation programs before he tried Narconon,
today is a drug -free, productive, caring person after more than 8
years! He is one more American sharing life with family and friends
with the hellish life of drugs behind him in his past.
I really recommend Narconon to anyone who really wants to stop
using drugs!
Sincerely,
Anna Grace
•
I would like to make my experiences at Narconon known.
• I walked into the Narconon facility in Newport Beach at what I thought
was the end of a hopeless life. I had been on a fifteen year run on
just about every drug I could get my hands on and got myself to a point
where I thought that this was how I would die; a hopeless drug addict.
My life had no apparent purpose anymore and I had lost just about
everything that I ever had. Luckily, my family found Narconon through a
concerned friend, who had also done the Narconon program, and my life
was then changed forever. Through my stay at Narconon I learned that 1
had a purpose and it was powerful one at that. I confronted some deep
rooted issues that were the source of my present time problems and
found a new freedom that I never new existed. Today I am a drug -free
and productive member of society that gives my family, friends and
mankind someone worthwhile to be around and associated with. I thank
God that Narconon was there for me and for our society as a whole. The
horrible world of drugs is growing daily and without the entity of
Narconon available to those suffering I. find it hard to believe that we
will ever restore our planet to the state of existence that is needed
for us and future generations to live in and survive.

I want you to know about my experience which shows that recovery facilities, especially
Narconon DO help addicts, alcoholics, and their families. I should know; I am a Narconon
graduate, and Narconon saved my life and changed forever the lives of all of those around me,
including my community.
I grew up in a tight -knit, highly educated Catholic family. I went to Catholic school until I
graduated from high school and flew off to attend UC Berkeley. There I studied physics,
calculus, and languages. In my second year of college, I became an alcoholic and began an
odyssey that led me to Narconon Southern California —where I got an education of a lifetime.
When I was 26 I found AA, a fine institution; and I staved sober for some seven years. That was
not enough; that was not real sobriety; something was clearly wrong. During my years of
sobriety I finished my BA and iv1A and earned California teaching Credentials and started my
career as a language teacher. I had and took the opportunity to work throughout California, the
Caribbean. and South America. I did professional research and delivered presentations at
•international conventions, but I never nailed what wasn't quite right in my life, and I ended up
drinking again.
This started a roller coaster of drunkenness and dryness, of horrible times and okay times. It
ended in lost jobs, a failed marriage, DUI`s, a stint of homelessness, and a jail sentence. No
matter what I—or others —tried, I could never put together another entire year of sobriety.
Narconon Southern California was highly recommended to my family who were desperate to
find me help. I had already gone through several twelve -step type recovery facilities with only
varying degrees of success; nothing stuck. I was willing to take the hand my family extended
and try one more time. But I didn't expect anything different, anything new; I just went to
satisfy my family and organize my thoughts.
Not too long into my three -month stay as a student at Narconon, I began to realize how very
different this program is from any other I had ever known or heard about. I realized how
phenomenal Narconon's simple technology is. I began to understand that Narconon is not a
place that was just going to get me to stop drinking and taking drugs. Narconon was the place
that was going show me how to live my whole life forever.
The eight - course program, built book upon book, literally showed me the way to happiness. The
courses and the people who delivered the program to me utterly empowered me in every aspect
of my life. At Narconon I didn't just recover from addiction; I recovered from wrong living,
from unethical behavior, from poor communication habits, from not understanding my own
40 condition or my own responsibility for it, and especially, how to get out of it.
0
When I graduated from Narconon, I graduated understanding my condition in every aspect of my
life and having usable tools with which I can keep on improving my condition every day. There
is no other program like this on earth; I am sure of it. The people who delivered the program did
so tirelessly; they are absolutely dedicated professionals. The Narconon technology itself is so
remarkable and life changing that I venture to say, despite my long career in education, that
there is no education more imperative to impart than that which Narconon delivers —the
technology that saved my life and the lives of so many others in so many ways.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Adams

To whom it may concern,
• My name is Chds and I am 39 years of age. I had been an addict for dose to 20 years, before I dedded to do
something about it. I tried several different techniques to help me stay sober including 3 twelve step programs and follow
up therapy. These programs worked for several people I know , but they did not work for me.
My Mother approached me about a program called Narconon. She told me that it was much different than the twelve
step programs I had tried in the past. Well I did the program and when I finished the program I was so impressed with
the results that I decided that for the next five years of my life I would help others in my condition get the help that I did.
Narconon helped me to understand, confront, and control my environment, my urges, my reasons for using, my IadK of
taking responsibility for my past and present actions. The program helped me see and uderstand the undesirables in my
private and public life and how to either handle these or dissconnect from them. I also did what we call a sauna rundown,
which when completed leaves the individual 100% drug free and very dear headed, this is really the point when the
individual can begin to retain what it is we have to offer.
I can honestly say that the Narconon program was well worth the time, effort, and most of all, the personal sacrifices that
myself, my son, and my Mother and Father, have all gone through, while doing my program to get me to this winning
time in my life. My personal relationships with my family members continue to improve daily and all of them could'nt be
more proud and very thankful of the Narconon program and what it has done for me.
Sincerely, Chris

Had it not been for the dedication and care provided to my daughter at the Narconon facilities, I'm
• sure I would have buried her by now.
As a single parent, without the necessary skills to provide the help she needed, I was incapable
on my own to bring her back from the HELL she was living in.
Her lifestyle was destroying her and all the family and friends who touched her life. My fear for
her life was an ongoing 24 hour a day demon.
I can't begin to explain my joy the first time I heard a peace and tranquility in her voice at
last. She has regained her life and is ready to move forward with goals and
ambitions for a healthy future.
If Narconon had not been willing to help her, I am sure I would not have the serenity I live with in
my life today.
My heart goes out to those friends and family who are unable to obtain the help necessary to heal
those they love.

I came to Narconon Southern Califomia over a year and a half ago.
• Narconon saved my life and in return I am helping Narconon save others in the same way. I came here because it is a
Place that cares about their clients, treats them with respect and in return the clients are respectful. The clients are good
people, once the element of drugs and alcohol are taken away, they come out of their shells and are caring, wonderful,
citizens. Basically, these people want to change their lives and Narconon is helping them to do that. It is a program that
works.
I know it is difficult for some people to accept that there is a program that works in the majority of cases, but it is the
truth. I am a success story and I know that there are many others like me.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter,

Over the last two years I have been lucky to have had a friend go through a great rehab. I say lucky, because had he not
participated in the program he most likely would not be here with his family and friends. Prior to his participation he had
used many different drugs, ranging from Fxtacy to Heroin. He had had bouts with most everything, marijuana,
add, extacy, pain killers, and quit at one point. Unfortunately it after he would quit one drug he would move on to
something that was more potent and addictive. He started using heroin and it was the drug he couldn't quit on his own.
He tried using the local methadone dinic, but that was very unsuccessful. At one point he told me that the addiction to
heroin was the worst that he had ever had, and that he wished that there was a way that he could stop. last June with
the support of his family, he flew up to Seattle, WA and went through a detoxification of his body. This got everything out
of his system. The thing is that he, as well as all of us, knew that he needed a support system to keep him from using
again. He went to a great rehab in California that not only gave him a support group but also taught him more about
himself and why he was using. He is now dean and is going to college here in Utah. I have known a few people to go
through rehabs and there are some that didn't have success but its not because of the rehabs they went to it is because
they were sent to rehabs against their own will. The ones that wanted to quit and couldn't on their own have stayed
dean because of what they learned in rehab.

I feel it is important today to express my deepest thanks to the staff and students of Narconon without you a part of life
• would have been destroyed. Because of you I have a new life with my best friend.
Friday night my husband graduated the Narconon program. To those who have never had a loved one dieing from
alcohol or drug abuse I am glad for you. For those of you who do there is real help.
There is no way I will ever be able to put in words what the Narconon program did for my husband, my children and
myself. To see my husband trapped to the addiction of alcohol was like watching my best friend dieing infront of me and
I felt hopeless and at times like I was dieing with him. To watch the pain on my childrens fares is something I wish for
no mother to ever have to experience. Alcohol was killing all of us.
Narconon brought us bads to life. It gave us ability to confront the subject and apply exact tools to exact areas of life. I
was so ruined in this area I did not think that help was possible.
I have watched someone change before my very eyes into the man I knew was always there. A mirade has happened in
my life and it is because of the Narconon Program, it is because of the loving and hardworking staff of Narconon who
apply this technology, it is because my husband availed himself and it is because my children and I loved him.
When I attended my husbands graduation there were two others who graduated with him. There were students and
staff present, family and a number of members of the community there in support. I could not stop crying. As the
graduates and the staff and students and members of the community gave there wins and accomplishments in helping
others and themselves a very warm and loving group was before me.
What I wish is for all people whether they know of someone who has a drug abuse problem or not to attend one of
these graduations, meet the staff and observe for yourself. We the people have a major problem of drug abuse that is
our problem it is not just the user it is not just his family. This is mankinds problem, it is your neighbors and to solve
this problem we all must be properly educated and we must all contribute our help and support or this problem will taxe
over our societies and our societies will die just as the individuals addicts are dieing until they are helped.
Thank you to the 5taff of Narconon for standing up to this problem and for saving mankind.

To whom it may concern,
• About two years ago my brother of, 19 years of age, got involved
with drugs or more specifically heroin. I have seen many people, some
friends, with hard core drug addiction but none compare the case of my
brother. I recall Numerous occasions when he would come home or my
father would drive him home because he was so completely incapacitated,
His shirt completely covered in his own blood, and infection oozing
from his arms. I can not put into words the deep feeling of
hopelessness and sorrow I felt for months and months, as you might
imagine if one of your closest family members where in a similar
situation. This almost killed my parents. Many nights my mother would
cry herself to sleep. My brother tried many times to kick his habit,
to nc avail. He just exchanged a heroin addition to a methadone
addition. Finally after much debate with my parents he agreed to entsr
a dreg rehab, Narconon in Newport_ Beach Ca., it was very difficult f,r
him, his addition to heroin was so severe that he had to be sent to a
special hospital in Seattle to render him unconcious for approximately
3 days for the first of his withdrawal. At this point he was taking
115 mg. of methadone a day, the worst case the doctor had ever seen in.
his career was 120 mg. per day. After this he was sent to Newport
Beach where he spent an additional 6 months. Upon his return he was
like it never happened almost.
niuht now he is enrolled in college and has mantained
approximately 3.5 grade point average and remains on of the most
intelligent people I know.
think Some rehabs may not the greatest, but I can tell you I
have met some of the staff a Narconon and they are first rate and to
• them I am forever grateful, as I now my brother is. I think most of t;.e
time the root of a rehabs beino ineffective is the the participants
unwillingness to stop using drugs or possibly being sent there against
them will.
I know for certain if it had not been for Narconon I would be
visiting a grave right now. Please take my story into consideration,
and I know that there are thousands of stories just like mine all
across the country.

To Whom It May Concern:
• I would like to take the opportunity to give you a little information
about my husband and myself. First, he is a retired policeman, and I'm
a claims adjuster. As my husband who has had many dealing with people
and their drug problems he now has a different outlook as to how to
handle the problem. At first he felt the way was only by using the
laws to combat the problem. Now he sees each person has his or hers
problems of which were compounded by life and it's problems.
My newphew became involved in the use of drugs. Our newphew is a good
person and he came to use asking for help. He realized the harm that
drugs can bring and the hurt to others. He wants to return to college
and be a credit to himself and the family.
As my husband being of law enforcement it was hard for him to see the
other side. - looking for help he came in contact with Narconon. in
talking with Narconon, then he realized that our newphew would have to
do this by himself. We would support our nephew in any way we could,
and give words of encouragement. Both my husband and I are very proud
of our nephew and his progress.
He went to Narconon by himself, signed h -mself in, and has completed
the program. At this point he is still there and working as a counsior
in he,D-;ng others. In doing this it has made him a better person. Not
only does Narconon stop the use of drugs, it continues to get to the
issue of why a person makes the choice to take drugs. This program a_so
helps them to learn to deal with everyday life situations. I have
attended some of graduations, and the first time I attended, I was very
pleased with the encouragement that all the staff members show towaras
the students. If you have any concerns, they are always there to help.
The staff members are very friendly and their doors are always
open. Since our nephew has been in this program, I have seen a great
deal of improvement in him. He is now able to handle life and it's
problems and becoming a better person. Also he is learning to face
everyday problems as an adult.
My husband and I feel our nephew will never return to the use of drugs.
This is a life saved and a credit to the Narconon and the community.
Sincerely,
Deborah and Dan Lefler

My name is Chad Anderson, and I am an Ex- alcoholic. For many years I
• drank excessively to the point of near death. I tried many times to
stop on my own and with A.A.'s idea of help, only to become more
depressed. The condition of my life was to the point of isolation and
despair. At a point when I believed my existence was to end, I was
offered help. That help was getting treatment at Narconon.
The condition of my life now has meaning and is manageable. I was

could not before.

Dear Sir,
Drugs and alcohol are quite possibly the largest burden on our society.
Any place that helps to relieve this problem is a good thing for any
community. Narconon is an asset to the community, because it produces
quality citizens, who will go out into the world and help others get the
same help they have received.
I am one of the many people Narconon So. Cal. has helped. Going
through this program has changed my life. Before I went through this
program I was a detriment to society. I now understand all the damage I
caused, and I am now doing my best to repair that damage. I am back to
being a part of my family's life, and they are so happy to see how much
the Narconon program has done for me.
The more Narconon programs that are out there, the more help will be
available and the more our society will improve - one person at a time.
Thank you,
Nate McHugh
I am writing to you in regards to drug rehabilitation centers. I am a 52 year old man. I used hard drugs and alcohol
from the ages of 13 to 48 (a total of 35 years).
Because of a drug rehab, I was able to salvage my life, learn life skills and learn to be a productive member of society. I
am no longer a burden on society.
I believe so much in the importance of drug rehabs, that I have devoted my life to helping others with similar problems,
and am currently working at one such center in order to achieve this.
Drug rehabilitation centers are necessary and vital in the society in which we now live.
Thank you for your time and attention,

I began using drugs like Alcohol, Marijuana, GHB, Ecstasy, Xanax, and LSD at the age of 15. At
the age of 16 1 did my first and certainly not my last shot of Heroin. I loved it. It fixed all of my
problems and made me feel on top of the world, so I continued using it on a daily basis. I ended
up dropping out of high school, stealing, getting arrested (more then once), alienating my
family, losing numerous jobs, etc. Since, starting to use drugs I have been arrested numerous
times for shoplifting, possession, DUI, and lastly burglary and grand theft. It wasn't until I was 22
years old and still a "junkie" that I made the conscious decision that I wanted to stop doing drugs,
but after so long, so many years of daily drug use, I didn't know how to do it. I was physically and
mentally shattered and lost. I needed help to get clean. I had tried numerous times to "kick"
Heroin on my own, it didn't work. I didn't have the skills to do it on my own, I didn't know how. I
was so miserable and physically sick that it was just easier to "use" and actually, at that point, it
seemed like the only option that I had. But instead I went to rehab. I finally was able to
successfully detox completely, with the help of the people at the rehab. I did the 3 month program
and have since been clean for 1 year and 2 months. I am now 24 years old. I am happy and
healthy, I just got a car, I have a stable job, and I have a good relationship with my whole family. I
now know how to live a sober life. If I would have never went to rehab I would be dead for sure. I
don't want to waste your time telling you all of the low -down, dirty, illegal, and disgusting things
that l did when I was addicted to drugs. Use your imagination, if you can think of it, I've done it. I
was so far gone that I could have never done it own my own. I owe my life to the people at that
rehab, because with out them I wouldn't have one.
Drug rehabs are extremely important, call around to some, you'll see that all of them are full. If
they are taken away then, where will the people, like me, have to turn when they don't know what
to do? When they want to stop killing themselves and their families? When they want to fix there
lives but don't know how?
The world would most definitely turn into a festering melting pot of filth, crime and poverty. Drug
rehabs are the light at the end of a very long, dark, hopeless tunnel, for a lot of people today. If
drug rehabs are taken away, then you might as well take a gun out onto the streets and start
randomly killing innocent people, because that's how most of them will end up. One drug addict
effects more then just his self and his family. He effects everyone he comes into contact with,
every one he robs, threatens, cheats and lies to and their families. So helping one person through
drug rehab really helps and endless number of people. There are always going to be drugs in this
world, therefore there will always be drug addicts and taking away rehab is like taking
away schools for the children. There will be now way for the drug addicts to rehabilitate. There
will be no hope for them. Please help keep drug rehabs available, don't let them take away the
only answer to drug abuse that we have today.
Sincerely,
Lauren

I went to Narconon with on Sept. 23, 2002 with a drug addiction. I was using speed and i had also used coke, exsatcey,
and pot. I was able to quit using the last three on my own, but speed was a lot hard to quit, and no matter what i tried 1
could not do it on my own. Narconon was the first ever rehab i went to. I will have to admit I was not sure if it would
work. But after the first few days, I saw my self again. I saw who I once was before i started using drugs. I meet a lot of
people who had been to multiple rehabs and they told me that those rehabs didn't work and that they where using a few
weeks or a few months after they finished. Well i went home after I had finished a certain part of my program and I saw
my Mom, Dad and Sister for the first time in a month and a half. It was a tearful reunion. They told me that they missed
me and that they were glad 1 was getting help. I have since graduated the program. I will have to to admit that Narconon
saved my life. If it wasn't for them I would have continued down the road of drug use until I would have ended up in jail
or even worse DEAD. I believe in the cause that Narconon is there for and i have since joined staff and have dedicated
my life to help save the lives of my fellow men and women. I have lost a friend to drug use and I don't want amybocy to
go through what I went through. Thats why i am here now. After I graduated I wanted to continue to help other people

win on there own. And I have Narconon to thank for giving me my life and family back.

I wanted to write to you regarding the results I've seen coming from the Narconon Southern California facility.
You and the staff there are doing a really good job. I ran a drug rehabilitation program myself for many years and I have
been to lots of facilities both in and out of the Narconon network and I know of what I speak.
All of the graduates I've met coming from your program are dean, appreciative and confident. Knowing too well how
addict are when they ENTER a rehabilitation center makes it all the more impressive. These people were not merely'off
drugs', they were actually rehabilitated.
Please keep up the good work.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing you on behalf of all those who have taken the initiative and demonstrated the
courage to change their lives. People who have come very close to losing everything they
hold dear. People who have experienced hardships and loss which to many would seem
too much to bear. I am one of these people. "Drug addicts" is the term most widely used
to describe us. Or once we have attained a decent time of sobriety "recovering drug
addicts." I choose to refer to myself as a person who has overcome enourmous odds. a
person who is now fully in control of his life. Did 1 do this all on my own? Well, the
answer to that question is definitely no. True, 1 did put forth the initiative to seek help and
it is the help I sought which saved my life. After having had enough of the "drug life" 1
boarded a plane in South Carolina and flew to California to seek help for my addiction. I
enrolled in a long term residential drug treatment center located in Southern California. I
am now employed by this center, putting in long hours to do my part to help others attain
the same phenomenal wins 1 experienced through the program. You see, it is virtually
impossible to permanently stop using drugs on your own. For recreational users it is
possible; but for addicts it is another story. Addicts need to be removed from their
surroundings and placed in long term treatment centers, such as the one 1 now work for.
This is the only way they will ever overcome their addictions and lead productive lives.
Talk to any heroin addict on the street or any crack addict and you will hear the same.
They may want to stop using but it will never happen unless they seek help. Addiction is
a process which gains full control of a being. Physical cravings are too much to handle
without proper treatment. Treatment which is being provided through the thousands of
drug rehabs operating worldwide. Drug addiction is one of the oldest problems of man
and one of the most dangerous. It destroys families, destroys lives, kills our children. and
it will eventually overtake our entire world if we do not do something about it. The time
is now my friend and the solution is drug treatment centers. 1 am going back to South
Carolina in May to attend my best friend's wedding. 1 have been asked to be a
groomsman. 1 am now trusted and depended on by my friends and family. 1 am looking
forward to seeing my mom and giving her a huge hug. 1 want to tell her how much 1 love
her. You see, she is the person who paid for my program. Thanks mom and thank you for
your time.

I've used drugs most of all my life. Until late 80's, it was just marijuana, I had never tried cocaine before. Subsequently
once I'd started, it started me down a long dark road. I've been in and out of programs, they never worked. I ended up
in prison, behind drugs. Currently, I am in a program, called Narconon, that works not only on a low tech level, but a
high tech level. While, at the same time, purging the body of deep seated toxins, this part of the program is called the
purification. Together, they actually purge the mind and the body of the negative and the harmful drugs and illusions
caused by them, from our beings. The technology teaches us who we left behind, beginning with ourselves, how to pick
up the pieces, leave the hurt behind, and live in the present so we can create by our choice our own future. Not one we
feel we are forced to follow because of an addiction.
Until coming to this program, I had given up hope on ever getting away from the drugs. I felt that that lifestyle was
around every comer. That there would be nothing I could do to avoid ending up in it, no matter how right things would
go. Because the cravings of the drug never left my body, or my mind, until now! This program took me back to the
basics of life itself, teaching me how to crawl again then to walk like a man again in life. I've regained Integrity and my
honor because of what this program has given to me.
The consolers in this program, anyone in the program, knows they can believe in. Because they have experienced all
sides of life themselves. They take the time necessary to make sure that we understand, that we learn to pre
again, about ourselves, and others. Its literally like being born over again. I use to say, if I could only do it and know
what I know now, well now I'm able to do just that, with confidence. And I owe that to this program and those who
taught me that there are still people in this world that exist who live by their own words. That is what directed me here.
Because I was fortunate enough to have two people come into my life who live it! In every thing they do, who never
turned their back on me, and who picked me up and stood by me when I fell. They went through the program
themselves years ago, because of who they are, it got me to believe that there was still hope and that I did have a
chance. I have not regretted, at all, my choice in coming, and I am grateful to have these people in my life, my two
angels, and all those who are certainly underpaid, and over worked who are involved with this program. I send this to
You with utmost sincerity which I have regained also.
Sincerely,
Jesse Troy Walters
My brother was addicted to heroin for 8 years. He was in and out of trouble with law enforcement because of this
addiction. He was also in and out of several "treatment' centers and institutions because of his addiction. He was on a
road to complete self-destruction and was in the process of destroying his family as well.
A representative of a drug rehabilitation program called Narconon visited him in }ail and offered him help. As a last -ditch
effort to handle the horror that he was living, he agreed to try it. His experience was not without its difficulbes, but I am
happy to say that now 25+ years later, he is still dean, sober and has never gone back.
My brother is unfortunately not a unique individual when it comes to the problem of addiction. He has dedicated his life
to helping others that have become addicted to drugs and alcohol. Without the help of drug rehabilitation programs such
as Narconon, I believe that thousands of people will die of overdoses, or violence related to the purchase or sale of drugs.
It is my hope that this message reaches those that need the help provided by rehabilitation centers
Thank you for your bme and attention.
Sincerely,
Charlene Thompson

I have graduated the Narconon program as of March 21. To say that drug rehabilitation centers are not necessary or
futile is ridiculous. The six months of support and motivation I have received here, have given me the opportunity to
change my life. To say that my existence here at Narconon is pointless is quite offensive and off base. Here at the
Program I am striving toward building a solid foundation for my purpose which is to be involved in the liberal arts
field. Everything we do here is positive, how can Someone berate a humanitarian organization. If not for Narconon, I
would be in jail for selling a couple bags of weed at the beach. I am a good person, and I have realized that here.
Sincerely,
David Silbert

I have been to several 21 -28 day treatment programs. I was always successful at quittlng the drugs and alcohol for a
• period of time, but I always ended up relapsing. Quitting is fairly easy, but staying that way is a different story. At these
treatment centers, I was crammed with a lot of information in a short period of time and then told to go to NA and AA
Meetings. That was the end of my "treatment" and when I would relapse, I would then have to come up with more
money in order to enter the program again. For me it was a continual cycle, go to treatment, relapse and go back.
The result of these experiences led me to try a different approach. My family and I did some research and found a long
term, residential program called Narconon. I found a few things with Narconon that were different from my prior
treatment experiences. The first was that it was a long -term program (not just 21 -28 days), and the other major thing
that appealed to me was their offer of a guarantee. The guarantee includes a 6 -month "window" during which if I had
any problems or relapsed, I could return at NO CHARGE.
Narconon has taught me not only how to quit using drugs and alcohol but how to remain clean and sober.
It is my hope that my story will help you and the general public see the reason that rehabs are so needed in todays
society. Without Narconon I believe that I would not be here today. Without drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers I
would have died many years ago.
Thank you for your time and attention
Sincerely,
Rick Hall

I would like to share my story with you and the public, in the hope that it will help save someone from making the same
• mistakes I have made.
I was at one time faced with the a serious and long -term drug addiction. I used to say to myself that I could quit, that I
would quit tomorrow. Tomorrow never came. I always had a court date. There was usually some type of chaos
surrounding me.
I tried many different ways to quit, including self -help programs, traditional hospital programs, and on several occasions
just quitting. NOTHING worked for me. My sister finally intervened and helped me find a long -term residential
rehabilitation program. This program, Narconon, really worked. It helped me by letting me take control of my behavior.
Narconon first established control and put me into an environment where I had a plan and a schedule every day. This
allowed me to make the adjustments to my own behavior and handle the problems in my life that led to my
addiction. For me, addiction was not the problem but a symptom of many problems that I had up until then, failed to
address.
I would not have been able to ever address those problems without a drug rehabilitation center to assist me. I had to
"cure" the symptom of addiction in order to handle the rest of the problems.
I have handled not only my addiction but the underlying problems leading to my addiction and am now completely dean
and sober and have been for years.
I have written all of this to you to let you know that drug rehabilitation is the only thing that has allowed me to handle
- this. I want the public to understand fully that drug rehabilitation is necessary in this country.
Sincerely,
Gary Downs

I am a 45 year old mother of two, that has recovered from 12 years of opiate abuse and addiction. This included 8 years
• of methadone "treatment". I abused opiates for 4 years and was referred to a methadone treatment program as a way
to end my addiction to opiates. That in turn led to an 8 year ordeal of using and abusing methadone. It was not until my
children intervened and admitted me into a long -term, residential rehabilitation program that I was able to become drug,
alcohol and addiction free.
Addiction is not something I was able to handle on my own. The methadone program was to be a short-term program to
handle my addiction -- it turned into another addiction of its own.
Drug rehabilitation is a vital neccessity for anyone in the situation that I was in. It is the only way to break the cycle. It
is my hope that you will consider me and others like me when broadcasting your story. It is vital that the public is made
aware of the need for drug rehabilitation centers and that there are success stories out there. I know I am one of them.
Thanks for your time and attention.

To Whom It May Concern:
• I am writing to express my appreciation for the Narconon drug
rehabilitation program. I have used drugs and alcohol for over 20
years. It has caused myself and everyone around me trouble. Although I
wanted to end this trouble I was causing I could never seem to quit
using for any long period of time. I found that by taking time from my
daily life routine and doing lots of personal rehabilitation was the
only way I could ge*_ out of the evil circle I was spinning in. I hope
anyone in the same situation gets help and can start living a happy
and productive life.

I would like to tell you about my sister and her success with the drug and alcohol rehabilitation
• program that Narconon offers. She is a college graduate, and before Narconon she could not
hold a job. She used cocaine and alcohol for 8 years before considering treatment, and when she
did come to this decision, she researched her options carefully.
Narconon's rehabilitation program has helped her reclaim her life, and it has enabled Karen to
become a productive, contributing member of society. Without the program, she was hopeless
and lost. Now she is gaining self esteem, respect, and has a chance to live life as a drug and
alcohol free individual.
1 personally have not seen Karen as happy as she is now. When she graduated the program she
signed on to work for Narconon. She is excelling there, and recently we visited her. She looks
great and is happy and healthy. This is all a result of the Narconon program.
Thank you for your time,

I am writing this letter to express my feelings on drug rehabilitation and my support for the Narconon program.
• I am currently a student here at Narconon and I must say that this program is the best thing that has happened to me in
many years. I am 41 years old and I have had problems with drugs and alcohol for most of my life. I have fled many
times without success to get free of drugs and alcohol over the years. Since I have enrolled in the program here at
Narconon, I have come to realize that this program is absolutely essential for my success. The technology that I am
learning here has not only helped me to become drug free but it is also helping me with many other aspects of my life.
I am truly convinced that this program is essential for me to reclaim my place as a good, productive member of society. I
have seen many people who have fallen victim to the disease of addiction, and I am sure that if they could have
experienced what Narconon has to offer, their chances for survival would have been greatly increased.
Sincerely,

I first heard of Narconon through the internet, where I was searching for a solution to my cocaine and atchohol
• addiction. I was at my wits end with the downward spiral in which my life was going. I knew that if I did not reach out
for help, I would die!
I entered the program last August, and I have been drug and alcohol free ever since. I feel great and I owe my new
lease on life to Narconon and its technology. I could NOT have become who I am today without this program, and I
know that my life is worth living now. Anyone who wants to rid themselves of addiction needs a program like this. I
know because I am that anyone.
Thank you,

To Whom It May Concern:
. I am writing this email to inform you of the
importance of drug rehab centers. Drug rehab centers
are a very important part of our society. They help
people get better and become productive Americans
again. Take myself for example; in 1989 when the DARE
program was introduced into my elementary school, I
was chosen as the spokesman for the Cape May county,
New Jersey program. I never thought that i would
never have fallen into the traps of drugs but I did.
I had a great job, a new son, and a fiancee and i
still got hooked. I tried to quit on my own using my
family as my motivation and that didn't work. Getting
arrested on felony forgery charges didn't scare me
into stopping. The only thing that worked for me was
coming to Narconon. Here is where I learned that i
was the one in control and I needed to make the
decision to stop. When you're out getting high you
don't REALLY want to stop; you say you do, but you
don't know how. Rehabs are where you learn how to do
that. We need to have these in our society because
with all the money that the government is spending on
drug awareness and prevntion, you can stir get almost
any drug with little or no effort in most parts of the
country. Until we figure out a way to curb usage in
this country, we need to be able to help people get
off and be an asset to our country. If you think that
• we have a bad drug problem now, just imagine a country
without rehabs and how many people would still be
hooked. That is a scary thought.

To whom it may concern,
• Drug Rehabilitation saved my life. I tried and searched endlessy for why I drank and I failed again and again. Drug
Rehabilitation is a gift for those of us who needed a safe place to be honest and understand what was musing us to
supress ourselves to the point of addiction. I support drug rehab and our living a productive life because of having had
the opportunity to go to one after all else failed.

I began mainlining cocaine at the age of 14 and moved onto heroin at 18, all the while sampling a plethora
• of other drugs - troth Pharmacueticals and street drugs. Although I was working two jobs and taking 15
hours at a university on a full scholarship, my life was hardly worth living. I atttempted suicide numerous
times, I sabotaged my future, and brought my family to the brink of insanity with me. I was a full blown
heroin addict without purpose, joy, or the sense to try and Pot the wreckage I had created in myself and
around me. I had a $400.00 a day habit and I soon found myself living on the streets of downtown
Dallas. Finally my parents intervened and had me court- ordered to rehab against my will. I'm now 21
years old and completely dean- I don't even take over the counter medicine. From the age of 19 when I
completed my first drug rehabilitation program to this Point of sobriety, I went through six rehabs. The
reason I'm dean today is because I chose to enroll myself this last time and I had the absolute intention
without any reservation of getting dean and reestablishing the control every human being is capable of
having in their life. I tried a number of times, though, to detox myself at home and then just stop using
but if you are at all familiar with the tern 'dry drunk' you will understand why this isn't possible. Rehab is
necessary in the Process of an addict getting dean because one must learn to think differently; act
differently; and of course give themselves the time away from restimulation by people, places, and the
temptation of drugs to actually heal and grow into a strong person.
I commend any addict who makes the attempt to get clean and move from the classification of addict to
the one which includes everyone else in the world who isn't sticking needles in their arms. However my
own personal recommendation is to not attempt this on one's own ... why make a hard thing harder?
Thank you for your time,
Kathleen Mueller

I wanted to share with you the experience that our family had
• >>with Narconon. My brother was on drugs for about 11 years. The
>>entire family was affected by this addiction. The worry, sleepless
>>nights and constant anxiety, literally brought our family to it's
»knees. We prayed to God for an answer to this horrible situation.
>>For many years, we got him into a series of drug rehabs, only to
>>see him back on drugs within 72 hours of his release. He was in a

>>prison. We were a desperate bunch of anxiety ridden individuals.
>>Our prayers were finally answered when someone from Narconon
>>visited my brother in prison. My brother had one more slip into
>>addiction, until he decided to give Narconon a try. Within a month
>>of his being at the program, we began to see miraculous changes in
>>him. Narconon deals with the total person, and includes the family
>>in this process. Narconon teaches people not just how to be free
>>from drugs, but how to live responsible lives. My brother went from
>>being the burden of our lives, to being the biggest blessing in our
>>family. We could not understand why all of the other programs did
>>nothing except to keep him off of drugs while he was in the
>>program. I recently asked my brother about this, and he explained
>>to me that after all of the other programs, he would get what he
>>called powerful urges for drugs that he could not overcome. He said
>>that at Narconon, he had went through a series of saunas that drew
>>the residue of all of the drugs he had taken out of his system, and
>>he has not had the very real physical craving that so restimulated
>>him prior to Narconon's program.I would highly recommend Narconon
>>to any person addicted to drugs. Narconon was truly the answer to
>>our families prayers, and we share our story in hopes of helping

I was addicted to cocaine for 20 years -- I have had it all and I have had nothing. I
come from a very financially stable home life and have a couple years of college, but
right after school, I started smoking pot. Within 2 years, I was using cocaine -- this
ruled my life. I lost a house, 2 marriages, and 2 children due to my drug usage. I
ended up within a gang, using, selling and making crack cocaine. I have been to 3 other
programs prior to Narconon. I have done inpatient and outpatient treatment. All of
these programs failed, I was using the day I got out of the program. I was at the end of
my rope -- then Narconon came and picked me up. They brought me to their facility in
Newport Beach.
I did the program and never gave up. It wasn't easy, but it worked. They found the root
of the problem and with their assistance, I handled it. I am now free of drugs and
toxins. The sauna program at Narconon made me feel 10 years younger and I have no
Physical cravings for any drugs. The tools for living that I learned from Narconon have
handled the mental cravings and set me free.
It has been 3 years and I have a new, easy life. My parents have a son again and my
kids have their father back.
I owe my life and future to Narconon.
Thank you for your time and attention.

I am a 22-year old, recovered heroin addict. I used drugs for 5 years, starting at the age of 15. I started out smoking
• pot and progressively moved on to heroin. I finally realized that I had to get help to beat my addiction.
My family & I found help through an in- patient rehabilitation center in Southern California. Were it not forgoing to a
residential center with 24 hour care, I would not have recovered from my addiction and would have most likely died from
an overdose. I had tried to quit numerous times to no avail — I was physically, emotionally and spiritually trapped by my
addiction.
I have been dean for the last two years and am finally able to do all of the things I want to do. I have been employed at
the same company for the last 2 years and have advanced in my position as well as my income. I have bank accounts
and credit, a vehlde and all of the things that I was unable to hang on to during my years of addiction.
Drug rehabilitation saved my life. It saves the lives of thousands of people like me every year.
Thank you for your time and attention.

I AM WRITING IN SUPPORT OF PRIVATE OR SEMI - PRIVATE DRUG REHAB
PROGRAMS ESPECIALLY "NARCONON ". THIS INSTITUTION WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN
BREAKING MY SON'S DRUG DEPENDENCY, TEACHING HIM TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS OWN ACTIONS,
CONTROLLING HIS ANGER, AND ASSISTING HIM IN STARTING A NEW LIFE. WITHOUT NARCONNON,
MY SON WOULD HAVE ENTERED THE GREAT CALIFORNIA PRISON SYSTEM OR WORSE. I AGREE
THAT STATE OR FEDERAL OPERATED DRUG REHABS ARE INADEQUATE, UNDERSTAFFED,
OVERPOPULATED AND UNDER - FUNDED. MY SON WAS ORDERED TO ATTEND A 90 DAY STATE REHAB
AND COMPLETED THE PROGRAM WITH NO IMPROVEMENT.
AFTER A SECOND ENCOUNTER WITH THE CALIFORNIA COURT SYSTEM, MY SON WAS ORDERED
TO CHECK INTO A 180 DAY PRIVATE REHAB OR FACE 16 MONTHS IN JAIL. I ASSISTED MY SON
IN LOCATING A FACILITY (NARCONNON) WILLING TO ACCEPT PATIENTS FOR THE PRESCRIBED 180
DAY PERIOD. THEY PROVIDED THE 7124 GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING MY SON NEEDED TO OVERCOME
HIS PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEPENDENCE ON DRUGS. AFTER 6 MONTHS AT NARCONNON, MY WIFE AND
I DISCOVERED A SON WE NEVER THOUGHT WE WOULD SEE AGAIN. MY SON HAS BEEN CLEAN FOR OVER
FOUR YEARS AND WE ARE VERY PROUD OF HIM.

I am a relative of an addict that is currently being educated /treated
• at a Narconon facility in California. Having been close to people with
addictions I can confidently say that programs like Narconon are
extremely beneficial and valuable to those who want to learn how to
change their lives and control their addictions. As with any treatment
program, a person who does not want to recover won't benefit, but that
has not been the case for my family member.
I have observed a transformation in my niece like no other. She's not
only drug free, but she's being educated and guided through a process
that will allow her to stay on the road to recovery. She's learning
the consequences of her previous lifestyle, and how drugs have played a
par*_ in keeping her there, but most importantly she's learning how to
deal with the left -over manifestations - both physical and mental.
The Narconon drug rehabilitation program is different than any other
rehab programs I've had the opportunity to know. The reason we chose
Narconon was the method of healing used, their flexibility, and the
success rate they are able to show.
It is well known that being a recovered /recovering addict is a lifelong
process. Narconon provides the tools one needs to be successful, and
backs that up with support like very few other programs.
It is my belief that my niece would not have progressed to this poi -.t
on her own.

I was one who had all the things that life had to offer me. That was before I developed a
drinking problem. I suffered with this problem for the better part of 10 years. I tried to
quit numerous times with absolutely NO success. Many times I would muster up the
courage to tell myself "That's it!" or "I am done with drinking" only to find myself
destroying my life and my world by drinking again within a few months.
When I came to Narconon, I was done with doing it my way and they offered a way,
through the sauna program and other studies, to allow me to regain control of my life.
Today, I am forever in their debt, because I am in full control of my life and destiny, no
longer am I controlled by alcohol.
Thank you for your time and attention.

I have been asked to communicate to you on behalf of Narconon and drug rehab facilities in general.
Please let me preface what I say by telling you that I have been a professional dealing with youth and drug
problems and with drug rehabs since the early 1960's, or, about since the inception of these places. I was a
10probation officer for twenty one years with drug and alcohol caseloads for most of that time and 1 am one of the
first certified drug counselors etc etc, I think you know what 1 mean.
The need for facilities that will deal with this problem without adding to it (sometimes peoples answers to drug
problems is to medicate them with even more drugs for example) is acute. There is little doubt that the biggest
problem facing us today in this great country of ours is drug use and not just by the young. It is not a problem that
will just go away on the persons own self will. We have known that and effective treatment for alcohol began in
1935 with AA once that was recognized. Drug addicts and alcoholics, despite their sometimes repulsive behavior,
still won't and can't get out of the trap by themselves.
The most remarkable and effective of all groups that I have had the privilege of working with is Narconcn. It is
refreshing to have them tell you what their success rate is and then be able to back it up. I have been helping-
them for about a year and it is plain and simple what you see is what you get success for the majority of their
clients. I could regale you for pages with why I am so impressed and happy to be a small help to them but, relax,
I won't
This Just a brief note on this subject and I am available for any further information. Thank you for this
opportunity to communicate to you.
Yours,
John W.Nemoede

Early last year, she went through a series of very painful dental surgeries. She was given
Vicodin, Lortab, and a series of pain medication during these surgeries. After all of the
dental work was done, she had one very serious problem. She could not get off of the
pain medicine, her body writhed in agony and she experienced flu like symptoms. When
she went to our Medical doctor explaining she had serious headaches, he also prescribed
pain medicine. My beautiful, loving wife turned into the most unpredictable person I
have ever witnessed. Money was constantly missing from the checking account and she
always blew up when I asked her about this. A once very loving mom who adored her
kids, she now blew up at them and did not want to be bothered. We were so perplexed
until one night her cell phone rang, and I answered it. The person on the other line was a
drug dealer, who supplied Vicodin to any person willing to pay. I confronted my wife,
threatening to leave if she did not get help for this very serious addiction.
We went together to a series of 12 step meetings, called Narcotics Anonymous.. My wife
cried and pleaded with me to try to understand that she craved these like a thirsty person
in a desert craves water to live. She also went on to tell me that she no longer needed the
drugs to get high, but she had to have them to function normally. She would get violently
ill without them. In desperation I logged onto the internet and read about Narconon.
is I called the center and the two things that impressed me the most was the success rate.
But, I still remained very skeptical, even while putting my wife on a plane to California
to go to the center, I called the person who signed her onto the program, and asked what
if she relapsed again? She told me that if a person relapses after completing the program,
that Narconon allowed for that person to return at absolutely no charge. I logged onto
other web sites, all of them, and I could not find any that even came close to offering this.
I knew financially, I could not afford to pay again, so this was a great source of comfort.
Several weeks passed, and I flew out to see my wife. I was fortunate enough to
attend the graduation of many of their successful students. I met many grateful parents,
wives, husbands and spouses that shared with me about how the Narconon Program had
saved their families from the downward spiral of drug addiction. I even met a Mom,
whose son had done the program, only to lose his father a few months after completing
the program. She said he went back to Heroin, his drug of choice shortly thereafter.
Devastated, she called Narconon. They told her to bring him back to the program at no
additional charge. That boy is now a college student, with one of the highest grade
point averages in his class. I was so inspired, I flew back home filled with faith about my
wife. This faith was not misplaced , my wife has been home for many months, and our
life has never been better. My family and I are indebted to Narconon, their truly
successful program, and the caring members of their staff.

i am wnnng tors letter to inform you of my own personal experience with drug
rehabilitation.
Two years ago I was doing cocaine every day. 1 could not stop. 1 tried numerous times,
but all to no avail. My friends watched my demise as I started stealing money and
ruining my relationships with everyone who loved me. Death was not far around the
• corner, but I could not see it. My only goal in life was to get high and blind myself to all
my problems. Finally, my parents came to my rescue.
0
They sent me to a rehab in California called Narconon. 1 was completely against it. I
didn't think 1 could handle life without drugs. I know that at that moment I wasn't ready
though. I needed to work hard on myself in a structured environment to change those old
behaviors.
I stayed at Narconon for 3 '/: months, I worked had and made the changes in myself that
were necessary to stay drug free in the outside world. I have been drug free for a year
and a half now, I am an honor roll student at the college I attend, and have wonderful
relationships with my friends and family. I own much of this to Narconon because,
without the help I received from them, I would not be here right now.
Drug rehabilitation facilities are places that chronic addicts and alcoholics need to get
well. Most drug addicts CANNOT stop on their own. They need help and time to get
better. 1 know I did.
Sincerely,
J
i nave been in a few "rehabs" in my time. I have had some success from them, but they
vaned little in their approach. 12 steps & 12 traditions of the various Anonymous': "I'd
come to realize I was `powerless' over drugs and/or alcohol. And, in acknowledgement
of my powerlessness, had asked a power greater than me to keep me clean."
I loved the `out' that `powerlessness' gave to me. I could `slip' and site my inability to
• remain clean alone. I required help to achieve what I had been told I could not do alone.
Basically, I had a free pass —I didn't have to accept responsibility because of the fact that
I was `powerless'. Regardless, I amassed 8 years of sobriety via this approach.
Today, I am back to square one. I used crack for the last two years of my life. I went
through a considerable amount of money. Lost good friends, a house and a car. I tell you
this not because I like to, but because I feel obligated. AA, CA, NA and other 12 step
programs are what they are; an approach to living without drugs and/or alcohol. For me,
I did not like being no better off than I was my first day sober or at lease no farther away
from using than a whim to do so.
My time here at Narconon, has provided a completely different approach. First all
previous exposure and ingestion of chemicals has been removed from my body. And in
doing so I no longer have physical cravings at all. Second, and perhaps most importantly,
I have been taught through the program itself, how the concepts that I have learned relate
to my new life, free from addiction. I now have truly practical, useful tools that are
indispensable. No matter what I am doing as far as my life goes, there is something I can
apply to it, and benefit from this application. By using the tools I have been given, I am
growing further and farther away from using. For me this is the true beauty of the
Narconon program.
Let us consider for a moment, a hypothetical situation: Your daughter has developed a
• serious drug dependency. This of course would not only worry you, but eat you up
inside, no doubt for a multitude of reasons. And this being the situation, if you had no
place to take her or inform her of so that she could help herself, she would then have few
choices to make, allowing her freedom from this condition.
Fortunately, as Americans, we have freedom, choices if you will. And to keep these
choices available to us both sides should be given equal opportunity to voice these
opinions.
Now, returning to the previously mentioned, hypothetical situation. Obviously I am pro -
Narconon, but whether you get help for your daughter at Narconon or somewhere else,
she needs help. She may not respond well to us or she may, but in providing this proven
approach, you and she are provided yet another option. And the end result, the common
goal is that she getsetter. It really doesn't matter how, only that it happens.

To Whom It May Concern:
• Almost a year ago today, on April 20, 2002, I arrived at the Narconon program in
Newport Beach, California. At that point in time, my cocaine habit had taken over my
life and I was losing everything — my home, family, children, and my self - respect.
I completed the Narconon program and in doing so, gained the much needed knowledge
of myself and the problems that led to my addiction. That knowledge allowed me to re-
gain control of my life.
I am now back at work, and am a very productive and professional employee. I am now
welcomed back into the lives of my children, and am able to be with them and support
them on a daily basis. I can now hold my head high and be a part of a community that at
one time, I had to hide from.
I thank God for Narconon, and for the loving and caring people in this world that work at
places such as Narconon. They are the ones that made it possible for me to get my life
back together. Without them, I would just be another statistic.
Thank you for listening.

To Whom It May Concern:
• I was using speed (methamphetamines) for over two years, along with many other drugs.
I let the speed grab a hold on my life and distance me from my family and friends and
ultimately myself as well. I had convinced myself that I was dedicated to using drugs
and that was okay.
My parents were looking for a way to help me because it was obvious that there was
something terribly wrong and that they had lost their son to drug use. I was unaware of
all of their efforts on my behalf until one morning; they brought me to a residential drug
rehabilitation program called Narconon.
I resisted being in a program at first, but I stayed because deep down inside, I knew I
could not go on the way I had been.
Today, I am strong, clean and happier than I can ever remember being. I have my parents
and Narconon to thank. My parents brought me into the one program that allowed me to
get the help I so desperately needed and to repair the damage done to myself as well as
my family. Without that I wouldn't be here today.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

My name is Kenny Zaucha. I was eleven (11) years old when I found out
about alcohol and how it made me feel uninhibited and eliminated
my problems. As I grew older and the problems of living life continued to grow I
used drugs and drugs and more drugs as my solution. I continued for the next
twenty -one (21) years experimenting with an assorted variety of drugs from A -Z:
Alcohol, Marijuana, Cocaine, Methamphetamines, Crack Cocaine, etc. I thought
that drugs were only a part of my life, but they were actually controlling my life.
Drugs blackened my vision of reality. Down and down I went, every day faster
than the day before. I had no real friends and I began routinely stealing from
almost everyone, including my parents, to support my habitual drug abuse. My
parents had gone through so much pain, grief and anguish that they were to the
point of disowning me for good in order to survive themselves.
I made many attempts to change my life. I went to three (3) well -known and
respected drug rehabilitation centers, numerous half -way houses and
participated in hundreds of alcohol and drug meetings to stop using drugs. None
of them worked for me. It wasn't because "I wasn't willing" or "I didn't want it
enough" or that "I wasn't humble enough" as I had been told. I know now that is
was because drugs were still in my body and there were no "real" answers or
tools which I could apply that would work.
1 continued to blindly poison myself to death with no end in sight. I had no
idea at that point that the Narconon Program had the answers. The secretary at
work recommended to my dad that a solution was available. My parents doubted
• whether anything could work in my case. Thankfully they still believed in me. I
reluctantly admitted that I was not completely in control of my actions and that I
was somewhat out of touch with reality. That is all I could admit. Nevertheless, I
agreed to at least give it a shot.
Having been through so many programs and having been told so many
things that didn't work I was very skeptical about anything really working. But I
had nothing to lose since I knew sure enough that 1 was headed straight downhill
towards disaster at a faster pace than ever before. My years of drug use and
abuse had caused so much damage to me physically and mentally that there
was no where else to go but Up or D ... Dead!
So little did I know at that time! The Narconon Program was different. It
worked!
I was finally free of drugs and the insanity of drugs. I was free from the
downward spiral of death that had me trapped for so many years. I knew for the
first time since the insanity began that Freedom and Hope were "real ". I had
been almost completely hopeless and, where all other programs had failed to
work, this program worked without a doubt. I didn't just feel it, I knew it! I was
absolutely amazed!
•
I successfully walked on a "yellow brick road" paved by Narconon through
• the jungle of drugs, confusion and darkness and straight into LIFE!
I knew this much for sure. 1 was drug -free. I was happy. I was able to be
myself. I didn't have drugs in my body anymore and I could communicate with
others ...without needing drugs! In addition, I was never told what to think or how
to think. All the other programs and places I had been before, they had told me
what to think and how to think. At Narconon, I sweated all the drugs out of my
body (I gave my urine and sweat samples and saw the actual results myself) and
I learned for myself how to think for myself and how to learn by myself. I only had
to apply what I learned. I clearly saw for myself that what I had learned was not
only real, and that it worked, but that I could use what I learned to live and
survive with the greatest of ease and control.
Wow! Not only was I free of drugs, but now I had an arsenal of powerful
tools that "worked like magic at my command ". All I had to do was use them.
I completed the Narconon Program in 1995. 1 have been drug free for eight
(8) wonderful years now! My experiences have been nothing less than life
changing! I have found out who I am and I continue to learn more about myself
and the world in which we We than I had ever dreamed possible! Since
Narconon, I have never needed help or support from anyone. No meetings,
support groups, nothing. I am in complete control of my life now!
• I'm alive now because I didn't stop looking for answers and more importantly
because I was led to the Narconon Program. I am grateful and indebted to
Narconon for saving my life!
Anyone willing to help themselves get out of addiction can be free like I am.
The Narconon Program works and without a doubt is the most powerful and
effective drug rehabilitation program on this planet!
I highly recommend the Narconon Program for anyone and everyone who
has an addiction to drugs!
There is true Freedom from Drugs and that is what the Narconon Program
delivers!
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Kenny Zaucha

To Whom It May Concern:
• I am writing to you today to share my experiences with Narconon, a residential drug and
alcohol rehabilitation center.
First I will have to back up and share some things about my oldest daughter, Denise.
Denise was a straight A student who never gave us anything but joy. She graduated high
school, and about a year later, got a great job and moved into her own apartment. For
about 3 years, things could not have gone better for Denise. All of a sudden, she quit
calling us, and even if she did, she wanted to borrow money.
When she came to the family Christmas Dinner, we automatically knew something was
drastically wrong. Denise's eves were glassy, and she seemed to nod off right where she
was sitting. My husband called some of her closest friends after she left, and they said she
had been acting very weird and hanging around with a questionable crowd. We
immediately knew that it was drugs
We called a good friend who had been through 0 years of it with her son. We knew that
her son was now her pride and joy, and after having lunch with him ourselves, it was hard
to believe that this was the same child that caused his Mother so much heartache. After
successfully completing 4 different drug treatment centers, we knew that he had relapsed
every time up until now. We asked him to please help us to help Denise. He told us that
when he attended the other programs, he always felt pulled back, literally, into the drugs.
He told us that because he did the sauna, he no longer craves drugs, and that has been the
difference in being sober for 8 years now. He gave us the phone number; we confronted
Denise, and got her on a plane right away.
She got to Narconon, and several weeks later we not only had our girl back, but she was
• more loving and appreciative of our family than she had ever been. We were amazed at
how she was taking responsibility, and even refused to let us set her up in an apartment
upon her returned. She worked? jobs and saved up her money so she could handle
everything on her own. She finally shared with us how heavily she was addicted to a
variety of drugs, anything she could get her hands on. She also shared that the night
before we called her to tell her about Narconon, she had almost died from an overdose of
a combination of street and prescription drugs. She thanked us for saving her life and
added that she will never forget what the Narconon Program had done for her.
We are so impressed at the follow up of this program. They call my daughter to check on
her, and have even called us to see how our family is doing. Narconon is about people
and families, and about helping.
It is our hope that there would be a Narconon in every community, so that drug addiction
can be successfully dealt with. Narconon works, it saved our oldest daughter Denise's
life!

• I was addicted to heroin and cocaine for about 5 years. By the time I was 24 years old, I
had spent half of my adult life behind bars for drug related offenses. By the time I turned
25, I knew I had to make changes in my life. I had also realized that I could not do this
on my own.
I was lucky. I was presented with the opportunity to go to a residential treatment center
in Southern California, called Narconon.
If it were not for the Narconon program, I would never have obtained the understanding
of my true problems. Being able to fully understand the problems that led to my
addiction, is what saved my life. That ability is what I gained from the Narconon
program.
I am happy to say that it has now been over 2 years since I completed the Narconon
program and I am still a clean, sober, happy, productive person.
Thank you for your time and attention.

• To Whom It May Concern:
I had a wonderful family life growing up. I taught responsibility and respect as early as I can
remember. I was encouraged to take a part-time job during high school to learn the value of
money. So, from the ages of 16 -20 I held a position managing a "Hot Dog on a Stick". I
eventually became a corporate trainer, opening 5 stores in Michigan. I started a savings account
when I got myjob and I had a good amount of money saved as well as paying all my bills and car
insurance. Needless to say, I never imagined at that point that I would fall into drug use or
addiction. I thought I was stronger than that —that I had a good head on my shoulders.
Somewhere down the road, I made a wrong turn. I started hanging out with the wrong people,
was introduced to methamphetamines and started experimenting now and then. I still had the
mindset that I was strong- minded and I would never get addicted. Before I knew it, a year and a
half went by and i had no job, a horrible relationship with my family, I was overdrawing my bank
account and writing bad checks. and 1 went to jail for the first time on a charge of possession.
When I got out of jail, I knew I had to do something to handle this addiction. I tried several times
with the help of my family to do it on my own. I could not do it.
My' mother suggested I go into a residential rehabilitation center. Based on the fact that I had
failed so many times when trying on my own. I agreed to try it at a rehab. It wasn't an easy
decision to make, l did not like to admit that I was an addict and drugs had more control of mv_
life than l did. But it was the best decision I ever made.
I went into the Narconon program in Southern California. I was in the program for 3 hard
• months. However, by taking that time to learn about and look at all of the things I have done and
actually confronting the problems in my life, l can honestly say that I have put all that behind me
and I am now a better person.
I appreciate the good things in life. My focus is on the positive and my friends and family are
amazed by the changes in me. 1 feel so good and I owe it to Narconon and the staff who helped
me through it.
Thank you for your time.
Sin erly,
Renee Demontreux
I decided to stop using drugs a long time ago, many many times. I did. Many, many
times. I stopped using heroin. I was still a junky, I was just not using. I looked like a
junky, I thought like a junky, I acted like a junky, I resigned myself to the fact that I
• would always be a junky, whether I used or not. I might as well use. I went to N.A., I sat
around at meetings, talking about using, not using, and how long it had been since we last
used. My life still circled around using, without the benefit of enjoying the high. I
decided I'd rather be using than talking about using. Once I stopped using, I
consequently stopped eating. I realized my problems ran much deeper than drugs. I was
doing anything and everything to escape my pain.
Once, I went to a psychiatrist and they told me just to talk about my pain. I did. They
said that would help. It didn't. I asked them how to deal with pair.. They said nobody
really knows. They prescribed me medication. It didn't help. It made me think that if I
was going to be medicated, I was going to be medicated, I like my medication better. It
had fewer side effects. Once, I went to a hospital to withdraw from heroin and they gave
me a more addictive, more expensive prescription. This didn't make sense to me.
Throughout all this time, I realized I wasn't living, whether I was using or not, I wasn't
living, I didn't know how.
Then, I found a place called Narconon. They said they would not medicate me; they
would clean my body and my mind and teach me how to live. They told me I would be
in a sauna program and everyday teach me the technology or tools to live by. I got
scared. Then it hit me, my brain was so dirty and cluttered, that it could use the
cleansing. I came to Narconon, I hurt, I screamed, I decided, I learned and I came to
• confront and understand. I grew, I gained power and control. I lived.
I am not a junky; I am a woman who now works at a drug rehab, helping others to come
to the same end that I did, to become a happy, healthy, productive member of society.
If deciding to do it is all it takes for someone, more power to them, some of us need a
little more help and it is crucial that help, such as Narconon, is there. I needed help, I got
it from Narconon. Now I give help to others like me.

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Ed Smith and I am 33 years old. I started using drugs when I was 15 years
old. Over the years, my drug use increased in such a huge way that by the time I was 23
years old I was using drugs on a daily basis.
I was smoking pot, snorting cocaine, and smoking speed. I kept this up for the next 7
years until I was 30 years old. During this time, I started my own welding shop and was
working full -time on my own. Due to my heavy drug use, I had to close the business — I
was high all the time. So for a few years, all I did was commit crimes and use drugs.
Then I started manufacturing speed in order to supply my drug use. I was finally arrested
at the age of 30 for manufacturing speed. I was sent to jail.
My parents came to see me and offered to help me with the understanding that if they did
help me get out of jail, I had to go into a residential rehabilitation center. My mother had
found Narconon while searching the Internet. When I was released from jail, my parents
drove me to Narconon in Newport Beach. I spent the next four months working on the
Narconon program. That was 3 years ago.
I have to say, that the experience of doing the program at Narconon changed my life. As
a matter of fact, my life has never been better. I truly believe that without the opportunity
to go to a residential rehabilitation center, specifically Narconon, I would still be using
• drugs, in jail or dead. Treatment saved my life.
Thank you for your time.

is highly focused on the educational process of teaching responsible decision making. The

To Whom It May Concern
I am a 16 year resident and business owner here in Warner Springs. I am pleased to
acknowledge and support the local Narconon group and their much needed program. This
program provides benefits not only to those attending their facility but also in the prevention
program offered in our local schools.
Their program of rehabilitation, education and family outreach provides sorely needed assistance
benefiting each member of the community. The assistance to individuals in overcoming their
addictions and returning them to a productive place in the society, and the education offered to
families and local children is a much needed positive approach for our society in general and
specifically for our community.
Sincerely,
• Donna Abell

To whom it may concern:
We have met with various members of the staff at Narconon, Warner Springs. CA
la and found them to be very enthusiastic and dedicated to helping solve the problems
of addiction to drugs and alcohol. We feel they and their organization will be an
asset to our community and we welcome them here as our friends and neighbors.
We lost a very valuable employee to a drug over -dose a few years back, and we wish
we could have gotten her into a program such as Narconon. We feel that she would
have been alive today if she was helped by the caliber of people we have met at
Narconon, Warner Springs, CA.
Sincerely,
