DISCUSSION:
City Arts Commission Secretary Caroline Logan will present a report on recent Newport Beach Sister
Cities activities.
The Newport Beach Sister City Association is a non-profit, volunteer organization which endeavors to
promote international communication, understanding, education and friendship between the people of
Newport Beach and the people of foreign cities. These principles are accomplished through the cultural
exchanges, business exchanges, student & teacher exchanges, student scholarships, host families, and
fund raising.
Newport Beach enjoys Sister City relationships with the following municipalities:
Okazaki, Japan: located 200 miles west of Tokyo with a population of 350,648, Okazaki is the birthplace
of Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa. The city is best known for its production of stonework, miso, fireworks,
centers for automobile, chemical and textile industries and biological research.
Antibes, France: located on the southern coast of France, on the Mediterranean, between Nice and
Cannes, Antibes is best known as the Rose Capital of Europe and the home of the largest yachts in the
world.
Ensenada, B.C. , Mexico is our closest sister city. While Sister Cities is currently committed to
establishing more programs, they currently enjoy an art exchange with the elementary school children
and have it displayed at local businesses. Most notably though, is the annual celebration of the Newport
to Ensenada International Yacht Race.
