PUBLIC COMMENTS ON MASTER PLAN (JULY THROUGH OCTOBER 2015)
CONTEMPORARY/CUTTING EDGE
• Emphasize contemporary art
• Create an alternative art space
• Do things that are "edgy" and do not try to please
everyone
EXHIBIT SPACE
• Galleries for emerging artists
• The City should support its own museum
• Have a dedicated space for arts
• Other arts and recreation facilities in the City
including buildings, gardens, and a centralized,
regional arts facility
• Establish a Newport Beach Art Museum
• A cultural arts center in the City
• Concept of pop-up events
FUNDING
• The arts budget for Newport Beach has not
changed for many years and should be increased
• Challenge Council to increase its budget allocation
to the arts
• Increase efforts in supporting art education
• Better support of local artists
OUTREACH
• Public/private partnerships
• Engage other cities
• Cooperate with nearby cities.
• Identify the City as a destination
• Have sculpture exchanges between city districts
• Hold more competitive activities to bring the
community in to appreciate the art and to better
utilize the Library resources in terms of increasing
skills.
• Develop a comprehensive arts plan with other
organizations in the City, such as a master
calendar of arts events
• Send out polling information to the public to
determine their interests in the arts
• Investigate the City's art inventory
PROMOTION
• Invest in promoting the arts
• Increase promotion of arts programs
• Promotion of City events is lacking
• A central point where everyone can be informed of
all arts activities
• Work with street artists to promote arts
TECHNOLOGY
• Investigate technology and its effects on the arts
• Existing arts program must be nurtured and
adapted to technology
• Use of technology by children
• Develop an integrated/synchronized website for all
arts activities in the city
• Improve multi-faceted communications program
SPONSORSHIP
• Hang sponsored event banners
• Approach local businesses with sponsorship
opportunities
• Support of the arts by local businesses
• Hold events where industries can participate
