C-3886 IS VOID (NOT PASSED, NEVER ENTERED INTO) CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT Agenda Item No. 7 December 12, 2006 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: Public Works Department Brad Sommers, PE 949 - 644 -3326 or bsommers @city.newport- beach.ca.us SUBJECT: JAMBOREE ROADIMACARTHUR BOULEVARD TRAFFIC SIGNAL CABINET RELOCATION — REJECT ALL BIDS FOR CONTRACT NO. 3886 RECOMMENDATION: Reject all bids for Contract No. 3886. DISCUSSION: At 10:00 a.m. on November 2, 2006 the City Clerk opened and read the following bids for this project: TOTAL BID AMOUNT $135,400.00 $141,337.00 $146,464.00 $149,965.00 $193,000.00 $236,848.00 * Corrected Bid Amount is $151,464.00 The owner of Newport Lexus proposed relocating the traffic signal controller cabinet at the intersection of Jamboree Road and MacArthur Boulevard to improve the aesthetics of the new dealership. The cabinet is currently located on the northwest comer in front of the extensively landscaped dealership. The proposal was to move it to the southwest comer, which is currently undeveloped. There would be no operational benefit resulting from the relocation. Construction costs continue to escalate beyond historical levels and the low bid is higher than anticipated. The funding for the project was to have been a 50 -50 split between the City and Newport Lexus. Newport Lexus has advised the City that the unexpectedly high bid has caused them to reconsider.
