Dear Mrs. Buman:
The City has recently completed construction of various capital
improvements in Corona del Mar. The design of the new storm drain
required lowering the easterly side of Fernleaf Avenue to maximize
the efficiency of the inlet structure. This has left a grade
difference between your walks and the new sidewalk.
We have made arrangements with Lang's Concrete to construct steps and
walls, where necessary, to correct the height difference. Some of the
work will have to be done on your property but at the City's expense.
The contractor will discuss the retaining wall material with you prior
to construction.
Please sign a copy of this letter and return it to me as soon as
possible. This will let us know that you approve of the project and
give us permission to work on your property.
If you have any questions, please call me at 673 -2110, Ext. 26.
Very truly yours,

As described in the previous letter recently mailed to the resident at your property,
the City has awarded a contract to the Walker and Bates Company of Riverside, California,
for the construction of various Capital Improvements in Corona del Mar.
One of these improvements is the reconstruction of all or part of some of the alleys.
The priority for the alley reconstruction has been established through a City -wide
deficiency survey. The limits of the work have been determined by the amount of funds
available.
During the design of the new alley, the surveys showed that it is not possible to main-
tain an even flow line grade and also have the edges match the elevations of all the
existing concrete garage approach slabs without creating an undesirable bump at some
property lines.
Consequently the contract includes removal and replacement of a portion of the concrete
slab adjacent to the property line as shown in red on the enclosed copy of a portion of
the construction plans. This alteration will reduce the bump and improve the riding
quality of the alley.
This work will have no adverse effect upon your property and will be accomplished with
a minimum of inconvenience and no expense to you.
However before the City will instruct the Contractor to do this work on your property,
it must have permission to do so from the owner(s) of the property.
Please sign and date the statement below. At your earliest convenience, return one
signed copy to the City using the stamped, enclosed envelope. Please keep the original
copy for your records.
Receipt of the above information is hereby acknowledged by the
undersigned as owners of the property at 6C3

hereby granted to enter upon the above premises for the purpose of performing
desirable improvements in conjunction with City of Newport Beach Public Works

Alley reconstruction will begin about the middle of September. If permission has not

Subject: COMBINED CAPITAL PROJECTS 1968 -699 C.D.M. Area C -1123
Dear Mrs. Boyajian:
As you may know, the City has awarded a contract to Walker and Bates of Riverside
for construction of the subject projects. The work is now in progress.
One item of work is construction of a new storm drain system in Fernleaf Avenue.
Simply stated, it consists of placing a 42 inch pipe in Fernleaf Avenuet around
into Second Avenue and then down Dahlia Avenue. tacn time it intersects the exist-
ing pipe new inlets and collector pipes will be constructed. The small inlet
structure that now exists adjacent to your driveway at 508 Fernleaf, will be
abandoned and a larger one constructed in front of 506 Fernleaf.
In addition. Fernieaf Avenue will be lowered slightly in order to maximize the
effi --iency of the new inlet.
The process will require reconstruction of your driveway approach. In order to
realize a smooth transition between the new approach and your driveway it will be
necessary to reconstruct approximately ten (10) feet of the driveway within your
property.
However before the City will instruct the Contractor to do this work on your property,
it must have permission to do so from the owner(s) of the property.
Please sign and date the enclosed copy of this letter and return it to us at your
earliest possible convenience.
Attached for your information is a copy of a portion of the plans showing the loca-
tion of the work. Th&- existing storm drain is shown in green, the new work is
shown in red.
If you have any questions, please call Mr. Ed MacDonald or me at 713- 673 -21100

Very truly yours.

deficiency survey.

Dear Property Owner:
As described in the previous letter recently mailed to the resident at your property,
the City has awarded.a contract to the Walker and Bates Company of Riverside, California,
for the construction of various Capital Improvements in Corona del Mar.
One of these improvements is the reconstruction of all or part of some of the alleys.
The priority for the alley reconstruction has been established through a City -wide
deficiency survey. The limits.of the work have been determined by the amount of funds
available.
During the design of the new alley, the surveys showed that it is not possible to.main-
tain an even flow line grade and also have the edges match the elevations of all the
existing cancrete garage approach slobs without creating an undesiradle bump at some
property lines.
However before the City will instruct the Contractor to do this work on your property,
it must have permission to do so from the owner(s) of the property..
Please sign and date the statement below. At your earliest convenience; return one
signed copy to the City using the stamped, enclosed envelope. Please keep the original
copy for your records.

Alley reconstruction will begin about the middle of September. If permission has not
been received by that time, the City will omit the work from the contract presuming
that the property owner prefers to adjust his own slab to the new grade at a later
