PROFESSIONAL SERVICES CONTRACT_
(Petroleum Consultant)
THIS AGREEMENT is made and entered into this /9Z;. day
of , 1968, by and between the CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH,
a munic pal corporation, hereinafter referred to as "City ", and
M. DUDLEY HUGHES, petroleum consultant, hereinafter referred to
as "Consultant ",
RECITALS-
The City is in need of the services of a qualified
petroleum consultant to advise the City Administration and the
City Council on matters relating to petroleum activities which
affect the City as hereinafter described,
Consultant has offered to perform such services, and
has been determined to be well qualified to serve in that capacity,
NOW, THEREFORE, the parties agree as follows:
I, SERVICES TO BE PROVIDED,
Consultant agrees to furnish the following services
upon request;
a. The making of engineering examinations of oil
operations which are determined to affect the interests of
the City,
b, To advise the City concerning the administration of
the existing City contract for oil production from the
tidelands in the West Newport area.
ca To assist the City in the preparation of appro-
priate regulatory laws governing oil activities,
d. To appear as an expert witness in lawsuits in
which the City has an interest,

e. The performance of such other related work as may
be requested by the City Manager or the City Attorney.
II. PAYMENT FOR SERVICES.
City agrees to pay Consultant for his services at the
rate of $30.00 per hour for all services. Consultant shall be
compensated for draftsmen and stenographers employed by him in
connection with work for the City at the rates of $7.50 per hour
and $5.00 per hour, respectively,
Payment shall be made to Consultant at monthly intervals
upon submission of itemized bills to the City Finance Director.
III. REIMBURSEMENT FOR EXPENSES-
City agrees to reimburse Consultant for the following
expenses in addition to the compensation for services set forth in
paragraph II above,
a. Offset printing, photocopy, blueprinting and
related services as required for the preparation of special
reports.
b. Long distance telephone calls.
c. Travel and living expenses to a maximum of $30.00
per day subsistence, plus transportation for authorized
travel beyond a 50 -mile radius of Newport Beach.
IV. TERMINATION.
This agreement may be terminated by either party upon
ten (10) days' prior written notice.
V> MATERIALS TO BE FURNISHED TO CITY.
In the event this agreement is terminated by either
party, or upon completion of any assigned work or project pursuant
to this contract, Consultant agrees to furnish to City upon
request copies of all memoranda, correspondence, drawings, maps
