DISCUSSION: The contract for the construction of the Polaris Drive subdrain has been completed to the satisfaction of the Public Works Department. The bid price was: $ 9,255.00 Amount of unit price items constructed: 9,255.00 Amount of change orders: None Total contract cost: 9,255.00 Amount budgeted in the General Fund: $13,000.00 (Account No. 02- 3497 -010) The design engineering was performed by the Public Works Department. The contractor is Alex Robertson Company of Irvine, California. The contract date of completion was April 25, 1974. DISCUSSION: This project provides for the installation of approximately 1000 lineal feet of 8 -inch perforated subdrain pipe to intercept subsurface water in Polaris Drive. This work is required prior to street resurfacing and concrete curb repair. The plans were prepared by the City. The estimated date of com- pletion is April 26, 1974. The estimated cost of the work is $13,000. Scope of Work SP 1 of 3 The work to be done under this contract consists of furnishing all labor, materials, transportation and equipment necessary to remove asphalt pave- ment, excavate trenches, install approximately 1,000 feet of 8 -inch per- forated asbestos cement pipe with cleanouts, back fill, trench resurfacing, and other incidental items of work as shown on the plans. The contract requires completion of all work in accordance with these Special Provisions: the City's Standard Special Provisions, the plans (Drawing No. D- 5073 -S), applicable portions of the State of California Standard Specifications, 1973 Edition, and the City's Standard Drawings and Specifications. Flow and Acceptance of Water It is anticipated that surface and ground or other waters will be encountered at various times and locations during the work herein contemplated. The contractor, by submitting a bid, acknowledges that he has investigated the risks arising from water and has prepared his bid accordingly. The contractor shall conduct his operations in such a manner that storm or other waters may proceed uninterrupted along their existing street and drainage courses. Di- version of water for short reaches to protect construction in progress will be permitted if public or private properties are not damaged or, in the opinion of the engineer, are not subjected to the probability of damage. Contractor shall obtain written permission from the property owner before any diversion of water outside the street right -of -way will be permitted by the engineer. VIII. Traffic Control The contractor shall provide traffic control in compliance with Section 7 -10 of the Standard Specifications. If required, "No Parking" signs will be supplied by the City and placed by the contractor. IX. Protection of Existing Utilities Known utilities are indicated on the plans. Prior to performing construction work, the contractor shall request each utility company to locate any facili- ties. Construction of the drain line will cause work to be performed under and very near existing gas, water, cable T.V., telephone, and electrical lines. The contractor shall protect in place and be responsible for, at his own expense, any damage to any utilities encountered during construction. Water The contractor shall make his own provisions for obtaining and applying water necessary to perform his work. If the contractor desires to use City water, it shall be his responsibility to make arrangements for water pur- chases by contacting the City's Utility Superintendent, Mr. Tom Phillips, at (714) 673 -2110, Extension 267. XI. Construction Details A. Pavement Removal and Excavation All pavement to be removed and all material to be excavated from the trench shall become the property of the contractor. Pavement edges shall be saw cut or made as smooth as possible using other approved methods. Trench excavations shall be made to the limits and grades as shown on the plans. B. 8" A.C. Perforated Underdrain Pipe The A.C. underdrain pipe shall conform to Section 207 - 6.2.10 of the Standard Specifications. C. Beddino and Backfill Bedding and backfill shall be permeable material, Class 1 - -Type A, conforming to Section 68 -1.025 of the California State Standard Speci- fications, 1973 edition and shall be placed to the limits as shown on the plans.
