SUBJECT: PROPOSED ADDITION TO THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT (CONTRACT 1603)
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Reject all bids for the project that were received and
opened on March 5, 1974.
2. Refer the matter to the City Hall Planning Committee.
DISCUSSION:
On January 14, 1974 the City Council approved Plans and Specifi-
cations for the project and authorized the City Clerk to call for bids to be
received and opened at 10:00 A.M. on March 5, 1974. Six bids were received
and opened.

2. R. McAlpine, Inc., Paramount 66,879
3. Gentosi Bros., Costa Mesa 69,435
4. Al -Lee Construction Co., Inc., Los Angeles 69,879
5. Clyde E. Mitchell, General Contractor, Garden Grove 76,950
6. Norman E. Phillips, Incorporated, Compton 82,066
The low bid was 40% above the architect's estimate of $45,500. The
architect was George C. Edwards of Corona del Mar.
Because of the high bids received it is believed that the Planning
Committee should meet again, review the matter, and submit recommendations to
the City Council.
