HomeMy WebLinkAboutC-1735 - Health insurance for City employees1] PERSONNEL HAS CURRENT POLICIES OF PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE COMPANY FOR HEALTH INSURANCE FOR PERSONNEL (CITY EMPLOYEES) CITY MANAGER HAS AUTHORITY TO RENEW CONTRACT IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT. 0 RESOLUTION NO. 46 9592 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CONTINUING TO CONTRACT WITH THE PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE COMPANY OF AMERICA TO PROVIDE GROUP HEALTH AND LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS FOR CITY EMPLOYEES WHEREAS, on July 14, 1975, the Newport Beach City Council adopted Resolution No. 8552 awarding a contract to the Prudential Insurance Company of America providing group health and life insurance benefits for City employees; and WHEREAS, said health and life insurance policies have been continued in effect by City Council action each succeeding fiscal year; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to provide said insurance for Fiscal Year 1979/80 with an increase of 158 in health plan premium, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach finds and determines that it would be in the best interest of the City of Newport Beach to continue to contract with the Prudential Insurance Company of America to provide group health and life insurance benefits for City employees. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized to renew said insurance for subsequent fiscal years so long as the cost for said insurance is within the amount budgeted and approved for that fiscal year. CITY CV kA&Ws'VRT CaokcH RESOLUTION NO. 8 8g l j A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CONFIRMING THE DECISION TO CONTINUE TO CONTRACT WITH THE PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE COMPANY OF AMERICA TO PROVIDE GROUP HEALTH AND LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS FOR CITY EMPLOYEES, AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 8876 WHEREAS, on July 14, 1975, the Newport Beach City Council adopted Resolution No. 8552 awarding a contract to the Prudential Insurance Company of America providing group health and life insurance benefits for City employees; and WHEREAS, on August 9, 1976, the City Council rescinded Resolution No. 8552, and in its place adopted Resolution No. 8876, awarding a contract to Pilot Life Insurance Company providing group health and life insurance benefits for City employees and further authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the contract on behalf of the City; and WHEREAS, said contract with Pilot Life Insurance Company was never executed and on September 13, 1976, the City Council voted to continue under the Prudential Insurance benefit plan. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach hereby finds and determines that it would be in the best interest of the City of Newport Beach to continue to contract with the Prudential Insurance Company of America to provide group health and life insurance benefits for City employees. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 8876 is hereby rescinded. ADOPTED this 27th day of September , 1976. Mayor ATTEST: ty Clerk DDO /bc 9/15/76 i { .:.: �I RESOLUTION NO. 8876 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AWARDING A CONTRACT TO PILOT LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY PROVIDING GROUP HEALTH AND LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS FOR CITY EMPLOYEES, AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 8552 WHEREAS, the City's insurance consultant, Ruland and Mattingley, have reviewed various proposals to provide group life and health insurance benefits for City.employees; "#T1 WHEREAS, Ruland and Mattingley have recommended that the City self -fund the Medical /Dental Plan and purchase Pilot Life's Stop -Loss insurance, as well as the Group Life, and AD&D; and WHEREAS, the City Council has considered the recommen- dations of the insurance consultant and is of the opinion that the proposal offered by the Pilot Life Insurance Company provides the most economical cost to the City to continue to provide the present plan of benefits for municipal employees; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council . of the City of Newport Beach hereby finds that it would be in the best interest of the City of Newport Beach to award the contract providing group health and life insurance benefits to the Pilot Life Insurance Company under the terms and conditions as recommended by Ruland and Mattingley; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to execute said contract on behalf of the City of Newport_Beach; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 8552 is hereby rescinded. RSS2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AWARDING A CONTRACT TO THE PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE COMPANY OF AMERICA PROVIDING GROUP HEALTH AND LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS FOR CITY EMPLOYEES WHEREAS, the group life and health insurance program of the City has been reviewed, proposals for group life and health insurance and recommendations thereon have been received and considered, and the proposal of the Prudential Insurance Company of America has been approved by the City Council; and WHEREAS, a policy contract for group life and health insurance has been presented to the City by the Prudential Insurance Company of America, and the City Council has reviewed the terms and conditions thereof and found them to be fair and equitable; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach finds that it would be in the best interest of the citizens of Newport Beach to award the contract to the Prudential Insurance Company of America, providing group health and life insurance benefits for City employees at an annual premium rate of $495,223.00, said contract to be effective July 1, 1975 through June 30, 1976. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Assistant to the City Manager of the City of Newport Beach is authorized to execute said contract on behalf of the City. ADOPTED this 14th day of July 1975.
