Dear Permitee:
As required by Sections 7-1-818, 7-1-835, 7-1-836, and 7-1-837 of the Orange County Grading and Excavation
Code, you need to insure that during the period between October 15 and April 15, all approved temporary
and permanent drainage and erosion control measures detailed on the grading plans are properly implemented
within your grading project. The purpose of this requirement is to protect adjoining property from
damage by flooding, erosion or the deposition of mud or debris, which may originate from your project
area.
In accordance with code requirements, it is the responsibility of the owner to:
1. Submit and have approved by October 12, the applicable erosion control plans as determined necessary
by the Building Official, which include details of the protective measures to be used; and
2. Install such approved measure on or before October 15, and maintain them in good working order until
April 15 of the following year, unless their earlier removal is approved by the Building Official.
Maintenance of desilting facilities must occur throughout the rainy season, therefore your plan must
show the proposed maintenance access from paved perimeter road or other all-weather routes.
Close coordination between the engineer and the contractor will be needed so that the plans for the protective
measures will realistically reflect job conditions as of October 15th and could be periodically modified
to comply with the changing conditions of the project.
A copy of the Grading Section Erosion Control Plan Guidelines is available online at www.pdsd.oc.ca.gov
for your information. Please ensure that the requirements therein are completely carried out to avoid
delays in your grading operations.
