CRC Section R314.3, CRC R315.3 defines required locations. Both boxes below must be checked. Detectors are also required in bedrooms with gas fired appliances ❑K Smoke Alarms: Installed in each room used for sleeping purposes, outside each sleeping area, and on each level of the dwelling unit. Retrofitted detectors may be battery operated for buildings where no alterations are performed on the interior. Multiple -purpose alarms (carbon monoxide and smoke alarms) shall comply with all applicable standards and must be approved by the State Fire Marshall. The approximate locations of observed footing excavations documented within the scope of the field memorandum is shown on the attached portion of the project Remodel Foundation Plan by Innovative Structural Engineering. (See reverse side.) Conclusions The footing excavations are acceptable, from an engineering geologic viewpoint, for placement of steel and concrete. Recommendations Dimensions and details to be verified by others. Other Comments The site is characterized by adverse soil conditions that includes a potential for liquefaction and seismically induced settlements that may occur during strong seismic shaking from an earthquake. As a condition for use of this field memorandum, the property owners and builder shall accept the risk of structural and cosmetic damages to the renovated structure that may result from such an event. Additionally, the project builder and homeowner must accept some risk of minor structural and cosmetic cracking between improvements supported by new footings and those supported by the existing foundation. Ocean Blvd., Newport Beach Subject: Slab subgrade preparation and footing excavations - remodel/renovations to residence Observations Subgrade soils in areas of new floor slabs and interior plumbing trenches in garage and adjacent areas of the residence have been moisture conditioned and compacted to a firm, unyielding condition. An additional segment of footing excavation at the rear of the residence has been constructed into firm unyielding soils that consist of medium dense, clean sand. The approximate locations of observed prepared slab subgrade and footing excavation documented within the scope of the field memorandum are shown on the attached portion of the project Foundation Plan. (See reverse side.) Conclusions The exposed slab subgrade is acceptable, from an engineering geologic viewpoint, for placement of steel and concrete. The footing excavation is acceptable, from an engineering geologic viewpoint, for placement of steel and concrete. Recommendations Subslab section, vapor retarder, steel reinforcement and slab thickness to be verified by others. Dimensions and details to be verified by others. Other Comments The site is characterized by adverse soil conditions that includes a potential for liquefaction and seismically induced settlements that may occur during strong seismic shaking from an earthquake.
