Subject: 6 Kingsport Drive Pool Pumps Noise Assessment
Dear Ms. Bashian,
As requested, we have performed noise measurements of the pool equipment at 6 Kingsport
Drive in Newport Beach. Four pool pumps and a water heater are installed at the south of the property.
The equipment is located approximately 3 feet from the adjacent residential property line. Six -foot -high
concrete walls are located around the pool equipment. Additional six -foot -high concrete walls extend
along the property line. Single family residences are located adjacent to the property on the south and
north sides. The location of the project site is shown in Figure 1. This report provides the applicable
noise standards for the project, the results of the noise measurements, and an assessment of
compliance with the City of Newport Beach noise standards.

A. The following noise standards, unless otherwise specifically indicated, shall apply to all property
with a designated noise zone:

If the ambient noise level exceeds the resulting standards, the ambient shall be the standard.
B. It is unlawful for any person at any location within the incorporated area of the City to create
any noise, or to allow the creation of any noise on property owned, leased, occupied or
otherwise controlled by such person, which causes the noise level when measured on any other
property, to exceed either of the following:
1. The noise standard for the applicable zone for any fifteen -minute period;
2. A maximum instantaneous noise level equal to the value of the noise standard plus twenty
(20) dBA for any period of time (measured using A -weighted slow response).
C. In the event the ambient noise levet exceeds the noise standard, the maximum allowable noise
level under said category shall be increased to reflect the maximum ambient noise level.
The City of Newport Beach requires a noise study to demonstrate thatthe noise level from the pool
pump is less than 55 dBA at the property line.

Pool Pump Noise Analysis
Noise measurements were conducted at the nearest property line to the pool pumps and the water
heater without the operation of the equipment (ambient condition) and with the operation of the
equipment on April 13, 2022. The measurements were obtained with a model 2250 type 1 precision
sound level meters manufactured by Bruel & Kjaer, which was calibrated before the measurements. The
measured noise levels were 48.4 dBA without the operation of the equipment and 53.8 dBA when the
equipment was in operation. Therefore, the noise level from the operation of the pool pumps and water
heater complies with the exterior daytime noise limit of 55 dBA.
