TO: City Council
FROM: Building Department
SUBJECT: Temporary Building Inspection Position
The building inspection work load has been extremely heavy during recent
months. Due to a loss of staff through retirements and resignations,
the inspection staff has been unable to maintain the standard inspection
scheduling where inspections are called one day and made on the next
working day. Inspection delays have actually reached three and four
days.
We have found it necessary to contract for short -term help to relieve
the problem. We were able to secure Mr. Ralph Cripps, who has approxi-
mately 23 years of inspection experience with Orange County. We have
been able to regain partial control of the inspection time problem. We
would appreciate being able to keep Mr. Cripps until the end of December,
at which time we anticipate that all of the authorized inspection positions
will be filled. '
Respectfully submitted,
L
