On motion of Supervisor Anthony, duly seconded and unanimously
carried, the Clerk of the Board, on behalf of the Board of Supervisors,
is authorized to execute Agreement No. C26231, dated January 8, 1980,
between the County of Orange and the City of Laguna Beach to coordinate
its H /CD Block Grant Program.
IN RE: AGREEMENT HOSPITAL ROAD /SUPERIOR AVENUE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH
On motion of Supervisor Anthony, duly seconded and unanimously
carried, the Clerk of the Board, on behalf of the Board of Supervisors,
is authorized to execute Agreement No. D79 -094, dated January 8, 1980,
between the County of Orange and the City of Newport Beach for the
construction of a traffic signal at the intersection of Hospital Road
with Superior Avenue.

SUBJECT; COOPERATIVE FINANCING AGREEMENT FOR THE INSTALLATION
OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL AND SAFETY LIGHTING AT THE INTER-
SECTION OF SUPERIOR AVENUE WITH HOSPITAL ROAD.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to
execute a Cooperative Financing Agreement with the County of
Orange for the subject traffic signal project.
DISUCSSION:
The project provides for the installation and maintenance
of traffic signal and safety lighting facilities at the subject
location. The project was in the 1977 -78 Traffic Signal Priority
Program approved by the City Council on November 28, 1977.
In addition to the signal equipment for the intersection
control at Superior Avenue and Hospital Road, the proposed project
also includes the installation of interconnect equipment at this
location, and at the existing traffic signal at Superior Avenue
and Placentia Avenue, to provide for coordinated traffic flow on
Superior Avenue.
The estimated cost of the project is $62,150, including
design, construction, and construction engineering. By prior agree-
ment $35,500 of this cost is being funded by three developers
located adjacent to the intersection. The remaining cost, $26,650,
will be cooperatively funded by the County of Orange and the City
of Newport Beach. The cost sharing is estimated as follows:

Mariners Savings & Loan Assoc. - $ 7,500
Donald Shultz Company - $18,000
County of Orange - $13,325
City of Newport Beach - $13,325
Funds for the Newport Beach share of the project is budgeted
in the current gas tax account, No. 19 -5678 -105.
