SUBJECT: PRINTER FOR 75th ANNIVERSARY PUBLICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution Number 9y 9 3 authorizing the Mayor and City
Clerk to execute a contract with Premiere Printing of Fullerton
to print the history of Newport Beach.
DISCUSSION:
The 75th Anniversary Committee invited bids from three printers to produce
the history of Newport Beach previously approved in concept by the City
Council.
The three printers were: Hendricks, Wilcox and Sons, both of Irvine, and
Premiere Printing of Fullerton. The principals of all three companies
live in Newport Beach. Premiere Printing published the history of the bay
written by Ellen K. Lee and sponsored by the Newport Beach Historical
Society.
Jean Ritter, chairman of the publications subcommittee of the 75th Anni-
versary Committee, wrote identical letters inviting bids, and mailed
them to the three printers on January 27, asking for bids by 5:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, February 10, two weeks later. Premiere submitted a written bid
in detail; the other two did not submit written bids but telephoned their
estimates at the last minute. Premiere and Hendricks were roughly compa-
rable; and both were lower than Wilcox.
Considering experience in book publishing, capability, in -house facilities
and price, it is the recommendation of the subcommittee headed by Jean
Ritter that the City Council approve assignment of the project to Premiere
Printing. The committee has not yet determined exact quantities, nor
variables in the number of pages, but the total project will not exceed
$42,000., and the committee is confident that it will generate these funds
through advance sales and sponsorship.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND
CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AND PREMIERE PRINTING
FOR THE PRINTING OF A HISTORY OF THE CITY IN
CONJUNCTION WITH ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, 1981 is the 75th Anniversary of the City of
Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the 75th Anniversary Committee previously
created by the City Council has recommended to the City Council
that the City enter into an agreement with a printing company to
print the history of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds it is in the interest of
the City to enter into such an agreement to provide for the
publication of a history of the City of Newport Beach in
conjunction with the 75th Anniversary of the City of Newport
Beach; and
WHEREAS, the 75th Anniversary Committee is presently
raising funds through advance sales and sponsorship of said
history of the City of Newport Beach to fund the publication of
said book; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to enter into an
agreement with Premiere Printing to publish the history of the
City of Newport Beach in conjunction with the 75th Anniversary of
the City of Newport Beach but not to issue purchase requisitions
until sufficient funds have been raised by the 75th Anniversary
Committee to pay for the publication of said book,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the agreement between the City of
Newport Beach and Premiere Printing for the publication of a
history of the City of Newport Beach in conjunction with its 75th
Anniversary is approved and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby
authorized and directed to execute same on behalf of the City of
Newport Beach, provided, however, that payment by the City of
Newport Beach to Premiere Printing for said publication will not
be made unless and until sufficient funds are raised by the 75th
Anniversary Committee to pay for said publication costs.
