CITY COUNCIL AGENDA_
ITEM NO.
SUBJECT: BIG CANYON RESERVOIR RESIDENCE ADDITION (C -2457)
RECOMMENDATION:
Award Contract No. 2457 to Spec Builders for the total price of $27,800,
and authorize the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute the contract.
DISCUSSION:
At 11:00 a.m. on September 26, 1984, the City Clerk opened and read
the following bids for this project:
Bidder Total Price Bid
Low. Spec Builders $ 27,800
2. R. G. Construction $ 32,240
The low bid is 11% above the Engineer's estimate of $25,000.
The low bidder, Spec Builders, has not performed previous contract work
for the City. However, a check with their experience references and the State
Contractors' License Board has indicated that Spec Builders (1) has successfully
completed similar projects as a general contractor for other Southern California
agencies, and (2) has no legal actions pending against their contractor's license,
respectively.
Contract No. 2457 provides for a 371- square -foot master bedroom and
bath addition to the 900 - square -foot caretaker's residence at Big Canyon
Reservoir. The existing residence and its detached double garage are also to
be re- roofed as a portion of the work.
Funds for award are proposed from the following accounts:
Description Account No. Amount
Enlarge House at Big Canyon Reservior 50- 9297 -177 $25,000
Repairs and Betterments at Reservoir 50- 9284 -003 $ 2,800
The addition plan was prepared by Advanced Drafting Service of Costa
Mesa. All work is to be completed by December 15, 1984.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Approve the plans and specifications.
2. Authorize the City Clerk to advertise for bids to be opened
at 11:00 a.m. on September 26, 1984.
DISCUSSION:
The FY 1984 -85 budget contains a $25,000 appropriation to provide
an addition and repairs to the 900 - square -foot caretaker's residence at Big
Canyon Reservoir.
The existing residence and its detached double garage were built
25 years ago. Inasmuch as the roofing is original, the entire residence and
its garage are to be re- roofed as a portion of the work.
The 371 - square -foot master bedroom and bath addition have been
designed by Advance Drafting Service of Costa Mesa. All work is to be com-
pleted by December 22, 1984.
