Approve the plans and specifications. 2. Authorize the City Clerk to advertise for bids to be opened at 11:00 A.M. on April 28, 1994. DISCUSSION: This contract provides for the replacement of all steel windows in the original City Hall building and jail (Recreation) wing. Many of these • windows are corroded to the extent that they may not be opened or closed as intended to provide for building ventilation and security. The contract specifies that the replacement windows shall be commercial quality units with slider panels to allow for ventilation. Those windows that expose offices to intense morning or afternoon sun will be double pane and shaded to reduce the heat gain within offices. The frames will be clear anodized to protect against corrosion and to eliminate repainting. Exhaust fans will be installed in the windows to 2 restrooms and air conditioning units will be reinstalled in 3 windows. The contract requires that security be provided to any portion of the building where windows are being replaced. The contract also allows work to be done at any time, in an effort to minimize the duration of disturbance to City Hall operations. Work is to be completed within 27 consecutive calendar days after the start of construction or by July 1, 1994, whichever occurs first. The specifications and estimate for the project were prepared by • Public Works Department staff. Staffs estimate for the work is $100,000. Adequate funds are available in the City Hall maintenance program appropriation to award this amount. Benjamin B. Nolan David Niederhaus Public Works Dept. Director General Services Dept.
