ORDINANCE NO. 1264
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING
SECTIONS 14.12.010, 14.12.0409 14.12.090, 14.12.120,
AND 14.12.140 OF THE NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE, AND
REPEALING SECTIONS 14.12.020 AND 14.12.110 OF SAID CODE,
RELATING TO WATER RATES AND CHARGES
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach does
ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 14.12.010 of the Newport Beach Munic-
ipal Code is amended to read:
"14.12.010 Service Fees. The fees for the installa-
tion o water services, or for enlarging those already in
place, shall be paid in advance and shall be as follows:
(a) For three - quarter inch meter or less ... $105.00
(b) For one inch meter ..................... 160.00
(c) For all other size meters, the installation fee
shall be the actual cost to the City, including the cost of
the meter, labor and material in laying such service and
replacing the pavement, plus twenty -five percent of such
cost for overhead, plus Fifty Dollars ($50).
In the case provided for in subparagraph (c) hereof,
the cost of material and labor shall be estimated by the
• Water Department and the estimated cost shall'be paid to
the Water Department by the person applying for such in-
stallation before the work of connecting the main with the
property is begun. Whenever the estimated cost is not
sufficient to cover the total expense for labor and
material, the deficit shall be charged to the property
for which such installation was made and to the owner
thereof. Any excess payment shall be returned to the per-
son applying for the installation."
SECTION 2. Section 14.12.020 of the Newport Beach Munic-
ipal Code is repealed.
SECTION 3. Section 14.12.040 of the Newport Beach Munic-
ipal Code is amended to read:
"14.12.040 Readiness to Serve Charges. There shall be
charge an co lected a bimonthly rea ness to serve charge
from each customer for each meter on the basis of the fol-
lowing schedule:
For 3/4 -inch meter or less ................. $ 4.00
For 1 -inch meter 5.00
For 1 1/2 -inch meter�u.o =. = = ................ 8.00
For 2 -inch meter ........................... 10.00
For 2 1/2 -inch meter ....................... 16.00
For 3 -inch meter ........................... 20.00
For 4 -inch meter .. . .............. 30.00
For 6 -inch meter ........................... 40.00
For 8 -inch meter ........................... 50.00
For 10 -inch meter 60.00
2-inch service,
4 -inch service,
6 -inch service,
8 -inch service,
10 -inch service,
12 -inch service,
$24 per years
$48 per year.
$72 per year,
$96 per year,
$120 per year,
$144 per year.
If such line is found tapped for domestic use, a meter
shall be installed on such service at the expense of such
consumer and the regular meter rates shall be charged there-
after. The right shall be reserved to disconnect such fire
service from the City's main by the direction of the City
• Council on recommendation of the City Manager."

Readiness to serve charges shall not be subject to
refund or proration if service to any customer is terminated
during any bimonthly period.
For any size meter not above described, the readiness
to serve charge may be established from time to time by
resolution of the City Council,"
SECTION 4. Section 140120090 of the Newport Beach Munic-
ipal
Code is amended to read-.
"14,12.090 Quantit Charges; In addition to the readi-
ness to seNe urges set forth-in this chapter, the rate
for water supplied to consumers through a meter, other than
pursuant to a written contract approved by the City Council,
shall be as follows:
For the first 250,000 cubic feet per month „ $O.22
per 100 cubic feet
For all over 250,000 cubic feet per month ... $O.12
per 100 cubic feet."
SECTION 5. Section 14012,110 of the Newport Beach Munic-
ipal
Code is repealed,
SECTION 6. Section 14.12.120 of the Newport Beach Munic-
ipal
Code is amended to read:
"14012,120 Building Construction Purposes. Service may
be made to a of or parcel ot land on which
a uilding is
•
being constructed for construction purposes only from the
time the building permit is issued until the building is
completed or until the time a water meter is installed to
serve such lot or parcel, whichever first occurs, for a
flat rate of Five Dollars ($5) per month for each 2000
square feet of floor space or fraction thereof of such build-
ing."
SECTION 7. Section 14.12,140 of the Newport Beach Munic-
ipal
Code is amended to read:
"14012,140 Private Fire Lines, Rates for private fire

SECTION 8< The amendments to Sections 14.120010,
14.12,040, 14012.090, 14,12.120, and 14.12,140, and the repeal
of Sections 14.12.020 and 14,120110, enacted by this ordinance
shall become operative on September 1, 19680
SECTION 9< This ordinance shall be published once
in the official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be
effective 30 days after the date of its adoption.
This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the 24th
day of June, 1968, and was adopted on the 8th day of
July , 1968, by the following vote, to wit,
