HomeMy WebLinkAbout1755 - Conservation of WaterORDINANCE NO. 1755 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH •: AMENDING SECTION 14.16.020 AND ADDING SECTION 14.16.025 AND SECTION 14.16.045 TO THE NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE CONSERVATION OF WATER The City Council of the City of Newport Beach DOES ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. Section 14.16.020 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code is amended in its entirety to read as follows: "14.16.020. Compliance With Regulations. No person shall cause or permit water under his control to be wasted, or use the water for purposes other than those named in the application upon which rates for water use are based, or use water in violation of any provision of this Chapter." SECTION 2. Section 14.16.025 is hereby added to the Newport Beach Municipal Code to read as follows: "14.16.025. Waste Water. (a) Gutter Flooding. No person shall cause or permit water to run or escape from any hose, pipe, valve, faucet, sprinkler or irrigation device into any gutter or otherwise to escape from the property if such running or escaping can reasonably be prevented. (b) Leaks. No person shall permit or allow water to be wasted by imperfect or leaking stops, valves, pipes, closets, faucets or other fixtures which he has authority to eliminate." SECTION 3. Section 14.16.045 is hereby added to the Newport Beach Municipal Code to read as follows: "14.16.045. Water Emergency Regulations. In addition to Water Emergency proclamations of the City Manager, 0 during the time of a declared water emergency the following regulation shall be in effect: (a) Washing Hard Surfaced Areas. No person shall use fresh water to wash boats, automobiles or trailers or hard - surfaced areas such as driveways, sidewalks, parking lots, streets and roads, by hosing. (b) Ornamental Facilities No person shall refill any fountain, pool or other facility containing water solely for ornamental purposes emptied during the declared water emergency. (c) Restaurants. Restaurants shall only serve water to customers upon request by the customer." SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall be published once in the official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be effective thirty (30) days after the date of its adoption.
