AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
ADDING TERRITORY KNOWN AS "BONITA CANYON"
TO COUNCIL DISTRICT FIVE
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has adopted Resolution 98 -_ ordering
the territory known as "Bonita Canyon" annexed into the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, Section 1005 of the City Charter directs that "any territory
hereafter annexed to or consolidated with the City shall, at the time of such
annexation or consolidation, be added by ordinance of the City Council to an
adjacent district or districts" and
WHEREAS, Section 1005 of the City Charter also directs that every fourth year
(starting with 1959), the Council shall appoint a committee to report back to the
Council on the advisability of redistricting the City; and
WHEREAS, the next fourth year redistricting increment occurs in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Council Districts Four (4), Five, (5) and Seven (7) are each adjacent
to the annexation area known as Bonita Canyon; and
• WHEREAS, the Council has determined that the placement of the Bonita
Canyon annexation area within Councilmanic District Five is the most appropriate
placement for the Bonita Canyon community and the citizens expected to reside there in
the near future.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach that the area known as "Bonita Canyon" to be annexed into the City
effective May 1998 be added to Newport Beach City Councilmanic District Five until
such time as the Council approves an ordinance adopting a new redistricting plan in
1999.
ADOPTED this 27th day of April, 1998.

City Council of said City at a regular meeting of said Council, duly and regularly held on the 27th
day of April, 1998, and that the same was so passed and adopted by the following vote, to wit:
Ayes: Thomson, Debay, O'Neil, Hedges, Glover, Noyes, and Mayor Edwards
Noes: None
Absent: None
Abstain: None
