HomeMy WebLinkAbout1321 - Fixing Damaged Main Sewer Trunk LinesI RESOLUTION NO 2 WHEREAS, the Santa Ana River flood of March 3rd, 1938 • 3 damaged the main sewer trunk lines, the sewage disposal plant 4 and roadway to said plant of the City of Newport Beach, and cer- 5 tain streets in the vicinity of the Santa Ana River Outlet to 6 the extent of $18,463; and 7 WHEREAS, said sewer lines, disposal plant and streets 8 must be repaired at once in order to safeguard life and property 9 in the City of Newport Beach; and 10 WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach had no funds with 11 which to do said work and has applied to the Federal Government 12 under the Works Progress Administration for the sum of $18,463, 13 under which project the city has agreed to furnish materials, 14 equipment and supervision, in the sum of $7,024; and 15 WHEREAS, flood waters from the Santa Ana River flowed 16 into the westerly arm of Newport Bay causing damage to said 17 streets and property between 42nd Street and Channel Place, and 18 the depositing of sand and silt in Newport Bay resulted in damage 19 to the extent of $2,650, as shown by the estimate of the City 20 Engineer of the City of Newpat Beach; and 21 WHEREAS, the total estimated cost of emergency repairs, 22 including $7,024 to be contributed by the city under Federal 23 Works Progress Administration, Project No. 9458, and $2,650 for 24 other repairs herein set forth, is $9,674; and 25 WHERREAS, the City Engineer has presented Plan No. 72 -1050 26 consisting of one (1) sheet, and Plan No. 401 consisting of 27 Sheets 2, 3, 34 and 39, showing the work and repairs required; 28 and • 29 WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has no funds available 30 at this time to appropriate for the purpose of repairing and re- 31 constructing damage caused by the Santa Ana River flood to the 32 sanitary facilities and streets as aforesaid. • �J .;�u 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 1 NOV12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That public property, life and health is endangered in the City of Newport Beach by reason of damage to its sanitary sewage lines and by reason of the other conditions mentioned in this resolutio -}, and therefore a grave emergency exists in the City of Newport Beach which re- quires the immediate expenditure of monies in order to safeguard the life, property and health of the inhabitants of said city; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; That the city has not sufficient funds to appropriate for the purposes of the emergency herein mentiomd and is compelled by reason thereof to seek assistance from the emergency fund created by Assembly Bill No, 25, 1938 Session of the Legislature of the State of California; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; That the plans submitted by the City Engineer, being Plan No. 72 -1050 consisting of one (1) sheet and Plan No. 401 consisting of Sheets 21 3, 34 and 39 showing the work and repairs required are hereby approved; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; That the City Engineer is hereby instructed to submit an application for an appropriation of 9x674 under said emergency fund to the Governor of the State of California. I HEREBY Certify that the above and foregoing resolution was duly and regularly passed by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach at a special meeting thereof held on the 13th day of April, 1938 by the following vote, to -wit: 3ST A r:'i NOES: ABSENTS
