RESOLUTION NO. 4516
WHEREAS, the matter of the residence of fire and police
personnel has been under study for the past several months; and
WHEREAS, it appears to be to the benefit and best interest
of the City that said fire and police personnel reside within the
area hereinafter described; and
WHEREAS, such residence has been recommended to the City
Council of the City of Newport Beach by the Civil Service Board
of said City;
NOW, THEREFORE? BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach as follows: That all regular employees of
the Fire Department and the Police Department subject to the rules
and regulations of the Civil Service Board of the City of Newport
Beach are required to and shall reside within the area described in
Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a part hereof by reference,
and that such residence is necessary for qualification in such
employment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that as to new personnel in both
the Fire Department and Police Department of said City of Newport
Beach that such personnel subject to the rules and regulations of
the Civil Service Board shall establish and maintain residence wi
in the area described in said Exhibit "A" not later than ninety
days following the successful completion of the probationary
period and appointment as a regular member of said Fire Depart-
ment or Police Department.
The above and foregoing resolution was duly and regularly
passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach at a regular meeting thereof held the 9th day of
JulY, 19567 by the following vote, to wit:

FIRE AND POLICE RESIDENCE DISTRICT
Beginning at the point of intersection of the east line
of the Santa Ana River and the line of the ordinary high tide
line of the Pacific Ocean; thence northeasterly alohg said easterly
line of Santa Ana River to a point of intersection of the easterly
prolongation of the centerline of Wilson Street; thence easterly
along said centerline of Wilson Street to a point of intersection
with the centerline of Newport Avenue; thence northeasterly along
said centerline of Newport Avenue to a point of intersection with
the southwesterly line of Mesa Drive; thence southeasterly along
said southwesterly line of Mesa Drive to an angle point in the
boundary line of the City of Newport Beach, said angle point being
in the northwesterly line of Block 57 of Irvine's Subdivision;
thence southwesterly along the said City boundary line to the most
westerly corner of said Block 57; thence southeasterly along the
southwesterly line of said Block 57 to a point of intersection
with the easterly line of McArthur Blvd; thence southerly along
said easterly line of McArthur Blvd. to an angle point in the
boundary line of the City of Newport Beach; thence generally
southeasterly along said boundary line to a point of intersection
with the aforementioned ordinary high tide line of the Pacific
Ocean; thence northwesterly along said ordinary high tide line to
the point of beginning.
