RESOLUTION NO. 5099
WHEREAS, the people of the State of Hawaii were well repre-
sented by an excellent Outrigger Canoe Racing crew at the first open-
water outrigger canoe race from Avalon - Catalina Island to Newport
Harbor, California, on September 20, 1959; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Newport Beach endorses
the sending of the Newport Harbor Outrigger Canoe Association crew to
the State of Hawaii to compete in the Molokai -Oahu Outrigger Canoe Race
to be held during Aloha Week, October 13 to 24, 1959; and
WHEREAS, it is felt that the highest type of sportsmanship
will be engendered by the competition in said race;
NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved that the Council of
the City of Newport Beach, on behalf of the people of the City of
Newport Beach, sends greetings and good wishes to the Governor of the
State of Hawaii, to the Honorable Members of the First Legislature of
the State of Hawaii, to the people of the State of Hawaii, and to the
participants in the Molokai -Oahu Outrigger Canoe Race;
AND IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that Robert L. Moore, Chief of
the Newport Beach Lifeguard Service, and Robert E. Reed, Captain of
the Lifeguard Service and Operator of the Rescue Boat, are hereby
officially appointed representatives of the City of Newport Beach
during Aloha Week and during the Molokai -Oahu Canoe Race, and offi-
cially requested to convey the greetings and good wishes of the City
of Newport Beach.
This resolution was adopted by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach at a regular meeting on the 13th day of
October , 1959, by the following vote, to wit:

Stoddard, Hart, Lorenz, Somers

I, MARGERY SCHROUDER, City Clerk of the City of Newport
Beach, California, do hereby certify that according to the records
of the City of Newport Beach filed and :maintained in my office,
the foregoing Resolution No. 5099 was duly and
regularly adopted, passed, and approved by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach, California, at a regular meeting of
said City Council held at the regular meeting place thereof, on
the 13th day of October 9 19599 by the following
vote, to wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: Kingsley, Atkinson, Higbie, Stoddard,
Hart, Lorenz, Somers
NOES, COUNCILMEN: None
ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: None
