RESOLUTION NO. 5808
A RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE ..CITY OF _NEWPOR.T .BEACH
WHEREAS, The Reverend Edward C. Smith has been the
minister at Christ Church by the Sea Community Methodist in the
City of Newport Beach over the past five years; and
WHEREAS, during his service in the City he has been of
immeasurable assistance to the Police Department of the City of
Newport Beach by his availability day or night to assist the
department in conveying news of loss or injury of loved ones; and
WI REAS, Reverend Smith has always been available to
counsel on matters that were not criminal but required patience,
wisdom and persistence; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Smith, in addition to his other duties
and activities and in spite of an extremely heavy schedule, has
found time to hold services at the Newport Beach jail; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Smith has earned the title of Honorary
Chaplain of the Newport Beach Police Department because of his
outstanding service and cooperation to the department and to the
City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to recognize his
services and extend a commendation to him;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach hereby officially expresses appreciation
to Reverend Edward C. Smith for his outstanding services to the
City, the Police Department, and the community, and does officially
commend him therefor.
ADOPTED this 8th day of July, 1963.
