A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF-THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH OBJECTING TO THE.DIVISION OF,THE
3
ORANGE.COUNTY DIRECTORY OF THE PACIFIC TELEPHONE
AND TELEGRAPH COITANY INTO FIVE SEPARATE BOOKS

WHEREAS, The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company
6
proposes to divide its Orange County Directory into five separate
7
books; and
8
WHEREAS, this proposed division may result in additional
9
telephone directories being published for the areas of Orange
10
County served by General Telephone Company; and
11
WHEREAS, it appears that the proposed division of the
12
Orange County Directory may result in as many as nine separate
13
telephone directories for Orange County; and
14
WHEREAS, the existence of nine separate directories would
15
result in substantial inconvenience to the public and to telephone
16
subscribers in the County; and
17
WHEREAS, this large number of directories would cause a
18
serious reduction in efficiency in the use of telephone communica-
19
tions;
20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
21
City of Newport Beach that the Public Utilities Commission is here -
22
by urged to deny the application of The Pacific Telephone and
23
Telegraph Company to divide the Orange County Directory into five
24
separate books; and
25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges that
26
all numbers in Orange County, with the exception of those listed in
27
Code Area 213, be listed in a single directory whether served by
28
The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company or by General Telephone
29
Company, and that the directory be divided by separating the tele-
30
phone number listings from the classified listings; and
31
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby di-

rected to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Public Utilitie

Commission and to each of the telephone companies.
