HomeMy WebLinkAbout5970 - Pacific Southwest Project Billr tmec, 2/64 (12) 1 RESOLUTION NO. ,L zD 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH APPROVING AND ENDORSING THE PACIFIC 31 SOUTHWEST PROJECT BILL (S -2760) PENDING BEFORE 41 CONGRESS WHEREAS, Secretary of the Interior Udall has proposed a 6 Pacific Southwest Water Plan which if adopted would result in the 711 curtailment of Colorado River water for Southern California without 8'I assuring an adequate replacement supply of water for Southern 9 California and without providing a solution to the many other 10 existing and future Colorado River water supply problems; and 11 a WHEREAS, the users of Colorado River water in Southern 12 California have caused to be drafted a proposed Pacific Southwest 13 Project Bill for the purpose of meeting the present and future 14 water demands of the Pacific Southwest region by providing for the 15 transfer of water from areas of surplus to areas of deficiency; an 16 WHEREAS, said proposed bill would provide for protection 17 of existing California uses of Colorado River water to the extent 18 of 4,400,000 acre -feet per year, would authorize the Central Arizon 19 Project and would require investigation and report by the Secretary 20 of the Interior as to additional supplies of water to sustain the 21 present development of the region, provide for normal growth, 22 improve the quality of the water in the River and reduce the 23 potential problems for the Upper Basin of the Colorado River; 24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the 25 City of Newport Beach approves and endorses the Pacific Southwest 26 Project Bill (S -2760) introduced in Congress by Senator Thomas H. 27 Kuchel, as a means for augmenting and developing the water 28 resources of the Colorado River; and 2.9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be 30 sent to Senators Thomas H. Kuchel and Clair Engle, to the members 31 of the California Delegation in the House of Representatives, to 32 Governor Edmund G.
