FINE ARTS 3 COB1MITTE ESTABLIS1ZD BY.RESOLUTION NO. 5526 41 5 'rMREAS, by Resolution No. 5526 adopted on December 11, 61 19612 the City Council established a Fine Arts Committee for the 7Ii purpose of advising the City Manager with regard to the display of 8 art works in the City Fall and other public buildings; and i 91 WMPXTAS, the Fine Arts Committee has recommended to the 10 City Council that the organization of the committee be revised to 11 provide for staggered terms for its members and that the committee 12 be authorized to appoint its own chairman; and 13 1411EREAS, the City Council has considered the recommenda- 14 tions submitted by the Fine Arts Committee and has determined that 15 the adoption of said recommendations is desirable and in the best 16 interests of the City of Newport Beach; 17 N0113 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: 18 1. The Fine Arts Committee for the City of Newport Beach 19 established by Resolution No. 5526 adopted on December 11, 1961, be 20 continued in existence. 21 2. The powers and duties of the Fine Arts Committee 22 shall be (a) to select displays of the arts within public buildings; 23 (b) to publicize such displays; (c) to promote cultural activities 24 within the City of Newport Beach; and (d) to represent the City in 25 connection with cultural and artistic endeavors, and the committee 26 shall coordinate the foregoing activities with the City Manager. 27 3. The Fine Arts Committee shall consist of five members 28 appointed by the City Council each for a term of three years and 29 until his successor is appointed; provided, however, that the 30 members first appointed to fill the vacancies which occurred on 31 December 11, 1964, shall classify themselves by lot so that the 32 terms of two shall expire on January 1, 1966, two shall expire on q 0 1 2 3I 41 5 61 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 321 y_ January 1, 1967, and one shall expire on January 1, 1968. Any appointment to fill an unexpired term shall be for the remainder of the term. The members of the committee shall serve without compen- sation. 4. The committee shall annually elect one of its members as chairman. The term of the first chairman shall end on December 31, 1965. 5. Resolution No. 5526 is hereby repealed.
