RESOLUTION N0. 6249
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING ITS SUPPORT AND
ADMIRATION FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE ARMED
FORCES OF THIS COUNTRY FIGHTING IN SOUTH
VIET NAM
*. WHEREAS, the United States has made a commitment to
support the nation of South Viet Nam in its efforts to defend its
freedom from foreign oppression; and
WHEREAS, young men of the City of Newport Beach, Cali-
fornia, are engaged in mortal combat in South Viet Nam in further-
ance of that commitment; and
WHEREAS, certain minority groups and individuals have
voiced their opposition to the actions of the United States in
Viet Nam; and
WHEREAS, said minority groups have erroneously pur-
ported to represent the sentiments and desires of the majority
of Americans;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of New-
port Beach resolves as follows:
1. That this Council, as the duly elected representa-
tives of the people of Newport Beach, hereby extends to the members
of the armed forces its fullest support, appreciation and devotion
as they courageously perform their duty.
2. That copies of this resolution be sent to the Pres-
ident of the United States, to the United States senators from
this State and to the congressman from this District for their
information, and to the communications media for dissemination
to the public.
ADOPTED this 22nd day of November, 1965.
