RESOLUTION NO. 8471
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING THE BRIDGE ACTION
TEAM '76 (BAT '76)
WHEREAS, it is generally recognized that a major con-
tributing factor to traffic conjestion in the City of Newport
Beach is the traffic bottleneck at the Pacific Coast Highway
bridge; and
WHEREAS, in order to bring about an early solution to
this traffic circulation problem, and to make our position with
regard to the serious need for the Coast Highway bridge known
to those public agencies responsible for approving a new bridge,
it will be necessary to organize and present a united broad -
based community position; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is on record in favor of the
expeditious reconstruction of the bridge at a height between 17
and 20 feet; and
WHEREAS, Bill Ficker has offered to lead a coalition
of vitally affected segments of the community as well as City
government in a joint effort dedicated to expediting governmental
decisions and actions that will lead to the reconstruction of the
Pacific Coast Highway bridge at the earliest possible date; and
WHEREAS, said community wide effort is to be known as
the "Bridge Action Team '76" (BAT '76); and
WHEREAS, the City has unanimously accepted Mr. Ficker's
offer to lead BAT 176;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach wishes to officially commend
Mr. Bill Ficker and the Bridge Action Team '76, and hereby
pledges its support and cooperation with the BAT '76 effort.
