• A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE CALIFORNIA
TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO DEFER ADOPTING
THE BRISTOL STREET ONE -WAY COUPLET AS ROUTE
73 UNTIL A CONSTRUCTION IMPLEMENTATION
PROGRAM FOR FULL FREEWAY IMPROVEMENTS ALONG
THE SAME ROUTE IS ADOPTED
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation
has recommended to the California Transportation Commission
that the Bristol Street one -way couplet between MacArthur
Boulevard and 0.2 miles west of Campus Drive be adopted as the
traversable routing of Route 73; and
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation
has not recommended a construction implementation schedule for
completion of the freeway improvements along the same route; and
WHEREAS, although the Bristol Street one -way couplet
will improve traffic circulation in the area, the couplet will
not replace the need for full freeway improvements; and
WHEREAS, the adoption of the Bristol Street one -way
couplet as Route 73 is an integral part of the relinquishment
process for MacArthur Boulevard,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach requests the California Transportation
Commission to defer consideration of the adoption of the Bristol
Street one -way couplet as Route 73 until a construction implemen-
tation schedule for full freeway improvements is adopted by the
California Transportation Commission; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
• of Newport Beach recommends that the California Department of
Transportation maintain both routes until a construction implemen-
tation program for full freeway improvements is adopted by the
California Transportation Commission.
