RESOLUTION NO. 9683
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING A COMMITTEE TO
PURSUE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A SCULPTURE
HONORING JOHN WAYNE TO BE LOCATED AT THE
NEWPORT THEATRE ARTS CENTER, ENSIGN VIEW PARK
WHEREAS, John Wayne was a leading and outstanding
citizen of the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to work with
community interest groups to honor John Wayne by locating a
sculpture at the Newport Theatre Arts Center, Ensign View Park;
and
WHEREAS, the Newport Harbor Area Junior Chamber of
Commerce has committed their involvement to work with a City
committee to establish such a sculpture honoring John Wayne; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to
establish such a committee;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach that there is hereby established the
ad hoc committee to pursue the implementation of a sculpture
honoring John Wayne, and described as follows:
Membership
The committee shall be compromised of twelve (12)
members, to wit:
Walter Ziglar, Chairman
Councilman Jackie Heather
Councilman Evelyn Hart
Ron Whitley
John MacNab
Jim Felton
Dr. Stanford Green
Pattie Gene Sampson

Jerry Stout
Ross McClintock
W. C. Fox
Term
The term of the ad hoc committee shall be one year
from the date of adoption of this resolution, unless further
extended by resolution of the City Council.
Purpose
The purpose of this ad hoc committee is to work
with community groups to implement the creation of and location
of a sculpture honoring John Wayne to be located at the Newport
Theatre Arts Center in Ensign View Park.
Duties and Responsibilities
The ad hoc committee shall oversee the process by
which an artist will be selected to prepare the sculpture, fund
raising will be coordinated and the sculpture will be prepared
and placed in the Newport Theatre Arts Center in Ensign View Park.
The ad hoc committee shall report back to the City Council, from
time to time, as circumstances warrant.
Restrictions
The purpose of the committee shall be solely to implement
the selection and placement of a sculpture honoring John Wayne in
the Newport Theatre Arts Center in Ensign View Park and for no
other purpose.
