HomeMy WebLinkAbout10095 - State Route 55RESOLUTION NO. 10095 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CONCURRING IN THE RECLASSIFICATION OF STATE ROUTE 55 FROM A FEDERAL AID URBAN (FAU) ROUTE TO A FEDERAL AID PRIMARY (FAP) ROUTE WHEREAS, State Route 55 (Newport Blvd. and Costa Mesa Freeway) extends from the intersection with Finley St., (City Hall entrance) at the southerly end to a junction with State Route 91 (Riverside Freeway) at the northerly end; and WHEREAS, said route is currently classified in the Federal Aid Urban (FAU) Highway System; and WHEREAS, it is proposed that the route be reclassified to the Federal Aid Primary (PAP) System; and WHEREAS, the Orange County Transportation Commission has requested the concurrence of the City of Newport Beach, County of Orange and other affected cities; and WHEREAS, that portion of Newport Blvd. in Newport Beach extends from Finley St. to the northerly City limits at 15th St.; and WHEREAS, the likelihood of funding improvements on Route 55 would be significantly enhanced if it were designated on the PAP System rather than the FAU System; and WHEREAS, the reclassification does not constitute approval of construction on State Route 55 to freeway standards within the City of Newport Beach; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that it hereby concurs in the request of the Orange County Transportation Commission to reclassify State Route 55 from a Federal Aid Urban (FAU) route to a Federal Aid Primary (PAP) route. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to send copies of this Resolution to the Orange County Transportation Commission, the County of Orange and other affected Orange County cities including, Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Orange, Santa Ana and Tustin.
