A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
• OF NEWPORT BEACH REAFFIRMING THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH'S CURRENTLY APPROVED SPHERE OF
INFLUENCE FOR THE IRVINE COAST AREA.
WHEREAS, on January 23, 1973 the Local Agency Formation
Commission ( LAFCO) requested the City of Newport Beach to review
the previous Newport Beach sphere of influence maps submitted to
LAFCO on August 20, 1970; and
WHEREAS, on August 13, 1973 the City Council approved
the sphere of influence reported map for the City of Newport
Beach; and
WHEREAS, at the September 12, 1973 meeting of LAFCO,
the Newport Beach "partial" sphere of influence was adopted,
accepting the "coastal area" and the! "Banning property "; and
WHEREAS, on April 14, 1975 the City Council requested
LAFCO to establish the City's "coastal area" sphere of influence;
and
WHEREAS, LAFCO subsequently set a hearing on this
request for April 28, 1976; and
WHEREAS, on April 28, 1976 LAFCO continued the hearing
on the "coastal area" sphere of influence; and
WHEREAS, on August 9, 1976 the City Council approved a
revised coastal area report and map; and
WHEREAS, on September 8, 1.976 LAFCO reviewed said
coastal area report and map and approved the sphere of influence
for the City of Newport Beach, which boundaries are generally
described as follows:
From the existing City limits of the San
• Joaquin Reservoir following in an easterly
directional along and including the top of San
Joaquin Hills to a point easterly of Signal
Peak; then proceeding in a southerly direction
through Muddy Canyon, leading easterly at
Wishbone Hill and connecting to the ocean
easterly of Reef Point; and
•
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to reaffirm the
currently approved sphere of influence in the coastal area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the sphere of influence approved
by the Newport Beach City Council on August 9, 1976 for the
Irvine Coast area is hereby reaffirmed.
The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to
send copies of this Resolution to the Local Agency Formation
Commission.
