TO THE HONORABLE MAYOR and CITY
City of Newport Beach:
 A
We, the undersip'nad, being property owners and residents
of Newport Beach in the vicinity of Balboa Boulevard and island
Avenue, do hereby protest the erection of a fire station be-
tween Balboa Boulevard and Bay Avenue adjacent to the Newport
Beach Public Library, for the following_ reasons:
1. The residential property which the City is contem-
plating acquiring is much too expensive for a fire station,
and the proposed Eighty Thousand ($80,000.00) Dollar price
to be paid is excessive;
2. We believe that the erection of the fire station
on this location will result in depreciation of the value
of the surrounding property and will contribute to a traffic
problem in the location of such station;
3. We protest the erection of this fire station in
this neighborhood in which a large number of elderly people
reside. Many of these people have resided in this area for
years, having chosen the same because of the fact that it is a
quiet area, and moreover the operation of emergency vehicles
from this location with the consequent disturbing of the
quiet would be detrimental to these citizens.
We respectfully request the Mayor and City Council to
reconsider the proposal to erect a fire station in this lo-
cation and endeavor to find a more suitable location and one
more commensurate with the essential uovernmental economy,
so frequently lacking in these times.
