About Code Enforcement
Approximately 115 cases since about August of 2017:
100 warning notices
35 citations

Funding is an issue for both
F)redging Alternatives (Public Works)
City currently pursuing this plan:
1 - Get Federal and other dollars to clean out as much material as possible,
including material not suitable for beach disposal.
Involves Federal lobbyist and more
2 — If that is completed, get permits to have a regular, routine dredging program
that:
Costs less than o 1x every 10 year program based on ocean disposal
Allows us to place materials on beaches

Q: Is there o way to gain greater control over basic harbor capital efforts, both public
and private?
A: Maybe.

Coastal Act allows
some areas to manage waterways locally,
like a Water LCP

City could attempt
legislation to include Newport Harbor in
the Coastal Act
❖ Assemblyman Matt Harper interested in carrying this for us.
Would likely require a Coastal advocate to help as well.
❖ A fairly expensive endeavor, but could save private resources eventually.
