The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in adjourned session 2.30 P.M.date and place ab6be shown. President Hermes called the meeting to orded and the roll was called, showing there wer2 present trustees:Albert Hermes ;S.L.Collins;W.K.Parkinson; C.H.Way and R.J.Stauss. None absent. Various communications read and referred to proper order of business. This being the date for the receiving of bids for the filling,dirt- surfacing. side - walking and curbing of 36th,37th,38th,Streets;Bay A e and Lake Ave the Clerk was instructed to open the bids in his hands;which were as follows. H.E.Smith.- Cement sidewalk;15cts per square foot. Cement curb 35cts per lineal foot.Excavating 35cts per cubic yard.Sand filling 50cts per cubic yard Dirt surfacing 01.50 per cubic Y_-rd. Certified check of $250.00 accompanied bid. Joel Wilson. - Excavating 40cts per cubic yard,Sand f111;40cts per cubic yard. Dirt surfacing;$1.40 per cubit yard. Certified check of $135.00 accompanied. Robt Boswell. - Cement walks 12-cts per square foot. Cement curb.30cts per lineal foot.Certified of $100.00accompanied bid. A.L.and J.E.Kavanaugh. -Dirt ftUtag surfacing $1.25 . Rxauxx1tex$x2Rzkzxxxxx per cubic yard. Excavations 20cts per cubit yard. Sand fills 30cts per cubic yard. Certified check for $250.00 accompanied bid. It appearing that the bid of A.L.and J.E.Kavanaugh was the lowest bid made on excavating,filling and surfacing; and that the bid. of Robt Boswell was the lowest on the cement work.It was moved by trustee Collins,seconded by trustee Stauss and carried that the bids of these parties be accepted and contracts executed accordingly. The circular and letter from the Pulmotor people was ordered filed on motion of trustee Way seconded by trustee Collins and carried. The Board was invited to visit the Jackson Norton establishment at Balboa 2 oclock P.M.Jany 5th to inspect pulmotor. The Chamber of Commerce by letter and committe recomended that the cost of paving Newport and Central Avenues be borne;one third by the City;and the tai balance by property owners on either side of the street. Moved by trustee Parkinson that City Attorney Bishop be instructed to draft the necessary ordinance renaming the streets of the City.Seconded by trustee Stauss and carried. Mr C.H.L.Ghriest addressed the Board Claimingt that the Pacific Light and Rmxi Power Co had by time limitation lost their right to proceed under the franchise granted them by the City;and asked that the Board take action in the matter. The Attorney for the Light and Power Co Stated that Mr Ghriest failed to state the facts in the matter,that the people he represented were making good progress with the work in hand and would continue to do so till the work was completed. City Attorney Bishop was called on and suggested that if Mr Ghriest had any case he take it to the Courts. The right of the Board to employ a music teacher was questioned,and the Attorney steted that the Board were well within their rights in so doing. Moved byt�tee Collins,seconded by trustee Parkinson that Clerk be instructs -^ Engstrom Cc that according to records in the County Office The city street does not go to water line on Bay channel where the bulk- head was desired.Carried, i Street Supt Barker reported that the proposed bulk - heading along canal on Lake Ave would exceed in cost $$300.00 and asked that clerK be instructed to advertise for bids on the work in question. The Clerk was so instructed on motion of trustee Collins,seconded by trustee Nay and carried. On motion of trustee Parkinson,seconded by trustee Way and carried adjourn- ment was taken sine -die.
