Webb, Public Works Director - 949-644-3311, <br /> <br />PREPARED BY: Peter Tauscher, Senior Civil Engineer, <br /> <br />PHONE: 949-644-3316 <br />TITLE: Fire Station No. 2 Replacement Project — Acceptance of Conceptual <br />Design <br />ABSTRACT: <br />Recent working sessions with the Fire Department and public outreach efforts for the <br />replacement of the Lido Fire Station No. 2 produced a general consensus for the design <br />of the replacement facility. Staff requests City Council approval of the recommended floor <br />plan and `Lido' exterior architectural style concept for this building and direct to staff to <br />proceed with preparing final construction documents. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />a) California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) cannot be determined at this time. <br />Planning Division staff will be working on the Coastal Development Permit (CDP) and <br />process the required documents for CEQA and CDP; <br />b) Review and approve the conceptual design and project budget; and <br />c) Direct staff to proceed with the final fire station replacement construction documents. <br />FUNDING REQUIREMENTS: <br />The current Capital Improvement Program budget includes sufficient funding for the <br />design and construction for the Fire Station No. 2 Replacement Project. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The current Lido Fire Station No. 2, located on 32nd Street, was constructed in 1952 and <br />requires frequent maintenance and repairs. While the existing structure is functional, it is <br />too small and no longer meets the operational needs of the Fire Department and <br />community. In lieu of trying to construct and relocate the fire station to a temporary facility, <br />and then demolish and reconstruct a new fire station on the existing property, the City <br />had the opportunity and purchased a 17,693 square foot property located at <br />2807 Newport Boulevard (Attachment A) where the new Fire Station No. 2 facility will be <br />constructed. In April 2018, the existing restaurant buildings were removed and utilities <br />terminated in preparation for the new fire station. <br />21-1 <br />
