Dear City Clerk,
First, my overdue thanks to you for doing the minutes. Each council meeting has plenty of "strange" topics and
messages. You have to digest them all, take the essence out of each, make this permanent public record. It is
quite some skill! Thank you!
May I suggest a little clarification in my public comment for item SS4 in the minutes as below?
Hoiyin Ip commended the Council for working on this during the pandemic and indicated the importance of organic
recycling as part of the landfill diversion effort, and noted CR&R's organic recycling facility in Me Perris recycling fiGeilo
hGs n was operating while the regular recycling centers were closed for weeks during the pandemic.
In addition, attached my non -agenda item public comment.

Non -Agenda Item Public Comment: Trash
Dear City Council,
During the trash study session on 6/23, Jim Mosher asked: Recycling rate is about 10%, landfill diversion rate is about 50%, where does the 40%
go? One of the destinations is India. This picture is from National Geographic's 6/2018 issue Planet or Plastic. These child labor end up getting sick,
or even die. It would be cool to eliminate single -use plastic bottled water at meetinas.

This year, 20 OC beaches are in California's honor list: two of them are Newport Beach's; both Laguna Beach and San Clemente have five; the
County has five, Dana Point has four, they overlap/collaborate to a degree as only one beach in Dana Point is the City's. I know little about water
quality. I guess it's fair to say there's room for improvement in Newport Beach.
