HomeMy WebLinkAbout140 - General Municipal Election - 4-8-1918Y� J� ORDINANCE NO. 140. 4N ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF I NEWPORT BEACH, PROVIDING FOR THE HOLDING OF A GEN -` ERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION IN[ AND FOR SAID CITY ON MON- DAY, THE 8TH DAY OF APRIL,I 1918, PRESCRIBING THE NOTICE THEREOF TO BE GIVEN, AP -1 POINTING BOARDS OF ELECTION I' AND FIXING THEIR COMPENSA -F TION, ESTABLISHING ELECTION PRECINCTS AND POLLING PLAC -4 ES, AND DESIGNATING THE OF- FICES TO BE FILLED AT SAID ELECTION. ' The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach do ordain as fol- lows: Section 1. A general municipal election in and for the City of New- port Beach is hereby called, ordered to be held, and provi(led for on the see- mid Monday in the month of April, 1918, being the 8th day of said month. Section 2. The said general' mu- nicipal election shall be held in -ac- cordance with the general election laws of the State of California, so far as the same may be applicable. Section 3. At said general munici- pal election there shall be elected four (4) members of the Board of Trustees of the City -of Newport Beach; three of said members to be elected for the period of four (4) years, and one of said members to be elected to serve for the remainder of the unexpired term of Glens Helms; one (1) Clerk to serve for the period of two (2) years, and one (1) Treasur- er to serve for the period of two (2) years, each of said officers shall hold otfice from and after the Monday next succeeding the day of election, and until their successors are elected and qualified. j Section 4. Two election precincts are hereby established at and within the City of Newport Beach for holding said general municipal election, to be and are designated: Precinct No. 1 i and Precinct No. 2. Precinct No. 1 shall embrace all that portion of the City of Newport Beach lying northwesterly of the fol lowing described line: Commencing at the point of inter section of the center line, of 15th Street, extended northeasterly 'with the northerly city limits of said City thence southwesterly along said ex tended center line and along the, cen ter line of 15th Street and along sail center line of 15th Street extender southwesterly to an intersection Witt the southerly boundary line of sai( The polling place for Precinct No. 1 is established at the westerly ground door room of the building occupied by the City of Newport Beach as a City Hall. A Board of Election in and for said Precinct No. 1 is hereby appointed to hold, conduct and make returns of said election as follows; Judge, John Meurs. Judge, Mary E. Wilkinson. Clerk, Miriam S. Porter. Clerk, Henry Starck. Inspector, Arline Jasper. ` Inspector, David Winans. Precinct No. 2 shall embrace all that portion of the City of Newport Beach lying southeasterly of the foi. - lowing described line: Commencing at the point of inter- : section of the center line of 15th Street, extended northeasterly with the northerly city limits of said City, thence southwesterly along said ex. tended center line and along the cen- ter line of 15th Street and along said center line of 15th Street extended southwesterly to an intersection with the southerly boundary line of said City. The polling place for Precinct No. 2 is established at the building at Bal. boa used by the City of Newport Beach as a Fire Hall. A Board of Election in and for said Precinct No. 2 is hereby appointed' to hold, conduct and make returns of said election as follows: Judge, W. W. Wilson. Judge, Hope Tr(cliey. Clerk, Hazel Jumper. Clerk, Dolly Cubbon. Inspector, M. L. Orcutt. Inspector, John D. Stark. Section 5. The compensation of the members of said Boards of Election is hereby fixed at four dollars ($4.00) leach. Section 6. The Clerk shall give no- Tice of said general municipal elec. tion by publishing a notice thereof once each week for two weeks in the NEWPORT NEWS next preceding the date of said election; said notice shall state the date on which said 'election will be held, the name or designation of the offices to be filled at said elec- tion, the period for which each officer is to be elected, the location of the Polling place in each precinct, the number of precincts, the name and designation of each election officer and the number of the precinct in which he is to serve, and state that said election shall be held in accordance With the general election laws of the. State of California, so far as the same , Section 7. This Ordinance, being i an Ordinance relating to an election, shall take effect and be in force from and after its final passage; and it shall .be printed and published once in the .NEWPORT NEWS, a newspaper o[ 'general circulation. printed, published land circulated in the City of Newport Beach. I The above and foregoing Ordinance No. 140 was passed at a regular meet-1 ing of the Board of Trustees of the 'City of Newport Beach held on the 4th day of March, 1918, by the vote of the following named members thereof, to- wit: Ayes— Trustees H, A. Robinson, J. J. Schnitker. Gen. P. Wilson, J. C. Mc- Cain, J. P. Greeley. Noes — Trustees: None. Absent— Trustees: None.
